Eva Idell Dixson

Mrs. Eva Idell Dixson, age 93 of Moore St, Summerville, GA, passed away Monday, December 13, 2010 at Oakview Nursing and Rehab Center.  Mrs. Dixson was born in Jackson  County, AL on March 8. 1917.  She was retired from Mars Glove Mill and was a member of the Pennville Christian Missionary Alliance Church.

Mrs. Dixson was preceded in death by her husband, Arlin Odell Dixson; her son, Delton K. Dixson; her father and mother, Joseph Riley and Sarah Ann Smith Long; two brothers and two sisters.

Mrs. Dixson is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah(Debbie) and Thomas Baker of Trion, GA and her daughter-in-law, Sharon Dixson of Summerville, GA; Her grandchildren, Lance and Lee Palmer, Justin Baker, Jason Dixson, Kayla Dixson and Alyse Edgeworth; and her four great-grandchildren; serveral nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec 16, 2010 at 3:00pm from the chapel of the Erwin-Pettit Funeral Home with Rev. Carlos Martinez and Rev. Waydell Howell officaiting.

Interment will follow in the Pennville Christian Missionary Alliance Church Cemetary.

Mrs. Dixson will lie-in-state Thursday, Dec 16, 2010 at the Erwin-Pettit Funeral Home where the family will recieve friends from 1pm to 3pm.

Pallbearers will be Lance Palmer, Lee Palmer, Jason Dixson, Justin Baker, Steve Palmer, Charles Black and Gary Abernathy.

Whisenant obit

MRS. FLORA MAE HARDEMAN WHISENANT, age 83, of Orlando, FL. passed away Friday, December 10, 2010, in Rome, Georgia. Born in Flintstone, Georgia on June 1, 1927 She was a daughter of the late Homer and Edna Beaty Hardeman. Mrs. Whisenant was preceded in death by her husband, John Alvin Whisenant, three brothers-J.B. Hardeman, Winfred Hardeman, and Edward Hardeman.

Surviving are two brothers-Rod C. Hardeman of Summerville and Homer Hardeman of Douglasville; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 3:00 P.M., December 15th, from Woodlawn Memorial Park in Gotha, Florida.

Mr. Billy James Bare

Mr. Billy James Bare, age 32, of Lyerly, GA, died December 10, 2010 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Bare was born December 7, 1978 in Cartersville, GA, son of Janet McRay and the late Leonard Warren Bare II. He was a farmer and a member of Lyerly United Methodist Church. Other than his father, Mr. Bare was preceded in death by grandparents, Ollie Leslie, Leonard Bare, Mary Bare, and Dottie Bare.

Mr. Bare is survived by his wife, Michelle Hurley Bare; children, Angel, Danny, Tristan, and Will Bare, all of Lyerly, GA; mother, Janet McRay, Bardstown, KY; brother, Chris Bare, TN; grandparents, Christine Leslie, Dixie Messer, and Frank Messer.

Funeral Services for Mr. Bare will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, December 12, 2010 from Lyerly United Methodist Church with Rev. Marshall Bryan officiating. Interment will follow in Johnson Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michelle Bare, Jason Gilliland, Eric Woodall, Scott Woodall, Mike Hurley, and Kevin Henderson.

Mr. Bare will be in state at Lyerly United Methodist Church, and the family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until the service hour on Sunday.

 

Evia Bowers obit

Mrs. Evia Mary Bowers, age 80, of Trion, GA died Friday, December 10, 2010 at LaFayette, GA.

Mrs. Bowers was born January 15, 1930 in Blue Ridge, GA, the daughter of the late Lewis Jervis and Biddie Davenport Stewart. She was a homemaker and a member of the Trion First Baptist Church. Other than her parents, Mrs. Bowers was preceded in death by her husband, Gaines Edward "Tarp" Bowers.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Paula Bowers, SR. and Phillip Michael and Janice Bowers; sisters, Shirley Stewart and Beedie Burnette; grandchildren, Kirsten Brown, Ted Bowers, Shanna Dawson, Matthew Bowers, and Phillip Bowers; and 7 Great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, December 11,2010 at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Vernon Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Old Trion Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Phillip Bowers, Ted Bowers, Matt Bowers, Tyler Holland, Jason Dawson, and Rick Bowers. Honorary pallbearers will be Stacy Brown, Roy Bowers, and Roland Bowers.

Mrs. Texie Josephine Hayes, age 72, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Friday, December 10, 2010 at her residence.

Mrs. Hayes was born in Ranger, West Virginia on January 18, 1938, daughter of the late Willard C. Blevins and Nera Sanders Blevins. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Blevins.

Mrs. Hayes is survived by her husband, Gary Lee Hayes; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas Lee and Tina Hayes, James Willard and Christine Hayes, and Timothy Benjamin and Krystal Hayes; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda Jane and Stan Smith and Kathy Bryant; brothers, Arlin Blevins and Arlie Blevins; Sisters, Mona Miller, Clara Miller, Velba Blevins and Vicie Hubbs; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Hayes will be held Sunday, December 12, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Joel A. Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Fisher’s Chapel Cemetery.

Haygood Obit

MARTHA M. HAYGOOD, age 84, of Trion, Georgia passed away Wednesday afternoon in a Rome hospital. A native of Trion, Georgia She was born to the late Cliff and Mary E. Henderson Haygood on June 12, 1926. Ms. Haygood graduated from Jacksonville State Teachers College in 1947 and started teaching in the Trion School System and retired after 39 years of service. She was a member of Trion United Methodist Church.

Surviving are numerous Cousins.

Funeral services will be held Saturday (December 11th) from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Rob Pierce officiating, interment in West Hill Cemetery. Active Pallbearers Joe Henderson, Johnny Henderson, Gordon Henderson, Glenn Henderson, Wynn Henderson, and Randy Gibson. Visitation will be Saturday from 1 P.M. until the hour of service. In addition to flowers contributions may be made to the Trion United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Mary Evelyn Willingham, age 64, of Trion, GA died Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Redmond

Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Willingham was born December 1, 1946 in Trion, GA, the daughter of the late James ONeal and Hazel Lou Hix Elrod. She was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills. Mrs. Willingham was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church and the Trion Walking Club. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandmother, Nellie Mae Hall.

Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Charles E. Willingham; sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Genia Willingham, Sandy Willingham, Ryan and Abby Willingham, all of Trion, GA; sister, Gaye Simmons, Summerville, GA; grandchildren, Kalen, Jordan, Kristian, Jarod and Hagen Willingham, and Richard Barrett; great grandchildren, Haley and Paige Barrett.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Ricky Biddle and Rev. Kevin Norton officiating. Burial will follow at West Hill Cemetary.

Infants Madeline Grace and Kateline Bell Dunaway died Sunday, December 5, 2010 at Floyd Medical Center.

The Dunaway twins were born December 5, 2010, daughters of Benjamin Franklin and Pamela Michelle "Shelly" Strange Dunaway, Jr. They were preceded in death by their grandfather, Ricky Strange.

Other than their parents, they are survived by a brother; Mason Tyler Sammons of Summerville, GA; grandparents; Ben F. Dunaway, Sr. and Becky Dunaway, Armuchee, GA, and Pam Abernathy of Summerville, GA; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral Services for Madeline Grace and Kateline Bell Dunaway will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2010 from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Leatherwood officiating. Interment will follow in New Armuchee Baptist Cemetery. Kenny Kendall will serve as the pallbearer.

 

Mr. Ross Hegwood Obit

Mr. William Ross Hegwood, Sr., age 74, of Cloudland, GA died Sunday, December 5, 2010 at his residence.

Mr. Hegwood was born May 26, 1936 in LaFayette, GA, the son of the late William Forrest "Babe" Hegwood and Addie Lou Williams Hegwood. He was self-employed as a used car dealer and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, holding the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Hegwood was a member of Alpine Lodge # 211 F. & A. M. He was preceded in death by a son, Barry Gordon Hegwood, and a sister, Ann Hegwood McGill.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Key Hegwood; a son and daughter-in-law, William Ross "Yogi" & Shanne Hegwood, Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Jane & Lamar Canada; brothers and sisters-in-law, Danny & Frances Hegwood , Tim & Pam Hegwood, Mark Hegwood, Steve & Margaret Hegwood; seven grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

Yancey Obit

Mr. Marcellus Worsham Yancey, Sr., age 74 of Summerville, passed away Friday, December 03, 2010 in Rome, Georgia.

Mr. Yancey was born in Summerville, Georgia on January 16, 1936, son of the late A.R. “Dick” Yancey and Pearl Ragland Yancey. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the United States Army. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Yancey was a construction superintendent. His job took him to many states and many foreign countries, but he always considered Summerville his home. Mr. Yancey served as the Jr. Vice Commander for the Georgia Chapter of the American Legion, was a member of the American Legion Post 129, the Chattooga Masonic Lodge # 704 F&AM, where he currently served as Treasurer, the Chattooga Shrine Club, and the Yaarab Shrine Temple. In addition to his parents, Mr. Yancey was preceded in death by a brother , Malcolm Yancey.

Mr. Yancey is survived by his wife, Ann Martin Yancey of Summerville; son, Marcellus “Marcey” Yancey, Jr. and his wife Zelma of Cloudland; daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha Y. and Ray Atkins of Rome, Charise and Tim McNeely of Dothan, AL, Tammy and Michael Dempsey of Cave Spring, Dawn and Ken Hefner, Cooksville, MO, and Kelly and Jay Wilson of Summerville; 15 Grandchildren; 2 Great grandchildren; Sisters and Brothers-in-law, Peggy and Tommy Dooley and Dale and Allen Cochran; Niece, Teresa Cobia; Nephew, Ken Yancey; Special Cousin, Kay Chumbler; Honorary Family: Members of the American Legion, Masonic and Shrine Brethren and the Members of the Liar’s Table and Wait Staff at Jim’s Family Restaurant.
