Charlie Monroe Hogue, Obit (ER)

MR. CHARLIE MONROE HOGUE, age 68, of Marks Road, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday morning in LaFayette, Georgia health care. He was born in Summerville, Georgia on January 12, 1956, a son of the late Fred Deforest and Audra Mae Hogue. Mr. Hogue was a retired textile worker and in addition to Parents, was preceded in death by his companion, Treva June Fowler and several Sisters and Brothers.

Surviving are sons, Charles Dewayne Hogue and Joshua Monroe McGuire; daughters, Kimberly Rollins, Rachel McGuire Dotson, and Shawna McGuire; brothers, Calvin Hogue, Howard Hogue, and Dewey Hogue; several Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 15th, at 1:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Tony Samples officiating, interment in Subligna Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Fred Hogue, John Hogue, Michael Hogue, Buster Hogue, Ronnie Wilson and Corey Wright. Visitation will be held Saturday from 11:00 A.M. until the hour of service at the Funeral Home.

Katheryn Lee Borman, Obit (C)

Katheryn Lee Borman passed away peacefully in her home Tuesday, June 11th 2024 surrounded by her family. Kathy was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Kathy was born April 4, 1955 in Trion, Georgia. She was the eldest of three siblings and known for her gentle spirit and her deep love for her family. She never had a harsh word to say about anyone and devoted her life to serving the Lord and raising her family.

Kathy stayed at home until her youngest started school. She then went back into the work force and worked at Best Manufacturing for several years before joining the team at Roper Corporation. She retired from Roper after 22 years.

Kathy loved a house full of family and her happiest moments were the hustle and bustle when her six kids and 16 grandkids came and filled her home. She had a special place in her heart for each and every one.

Kathy was baptized at an early age and found the Lord. Her faith grounded her and she had a spirit of calmness and peace in the midst everything she endured. She had the most sweetest voice and kindest words to lift and encourage. She will be greatly missed by so many. If there is one verse that stands out to describe mom it is, Proverbs 31:26 “She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.”

Kathy was preceded in death by a daughter, Terri Best; two grandchildren, Logan Suggs and Matt Snider; sister, Lisa Cox and a brother, Gene Lively. She is survived by her children, Bobby and Julie Snider, Clay Borman, Tina and Michelle Snider, Jill Nichols and Jacy Borman; grandchildren, Jacob and CC Gill, Brooke and RJ Brown, Kinsey and Josh Ables, Karlah Snider, Gracie Borman, Cavryn Borman, Haley Nichols, Shawn Hightower, Jose and Justin Broyles, Taylor and Ian Crawford, Daulton Vaughn, Gavin Porter and Jonte Porter; numerous great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In accordance with Kathy’s wishes, she will be cremated and there are no plans at this time for any formal services.

Wanda Sue Barr, Obit (M)

Miss Wanda Sue Barr, age 62, of Trion, GA, died Monday, June 10, 2024, at Oakview Health and Rehabilitation.

Miss Barr was born May 28, 1962, in Atlanta, GA, daughter of the late Robert Barr, Jr. and Mary Magdeline Chapman Barr.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert “Junior” Barr.

Survivors include her sisters, Lesia (Timmy) Barr, Tammy (Joe) Barr, and Mary Alice Barr; and 27 nieces and nephews.

Graveside and interment services for Miss Barr will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, June 14, 2024, at West Hill Cemetery.

There will be no formal visitation.

Howard Dale Scoggins, Obit (ER)

MR. HOWARD DALE SCOGGINS, age 74, of Summerville, Georgia, Subligna Community, passed away Monday afternoon, June 10, 2024, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Scoggins was born in Chattooga County, Georgia to the late Howard Smith Scoggins and Christins Pledger Scoggins on October 23, 1949. He was a member of the Perennial Springs Baptist Church and retired Salesmen.

Surviving are His wife, Dianne Scoggins; daughter and son-in-law, Shelley Scoggins (Adam) Hawkins; sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen (Stacy) Barnes and Michael Dale (Dayna) Scoggins; sisters, Sandra Martin and Brenda (Ralph) Teems; brother, Larry (Pat) Scoggins; grandchildren, Abby Scoggins Hill (Terry), Alex Bonine, Caleb Barnes, Morgan Barnes, Mattison Hawkins (fiancée Gauge Burkett), Ally Hawkins, Jackson Willis, Judson Willis, and Rylan Scoggins; Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June13th, at 2:30 P.M. from the Perennial Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Alton Stamey, Rev, Mike Smith, and Mr. Bobby Chisolm officiating, interment in Subligna Cemetery. Marvin Eugene “Turk” Mobbs, Obit (M)

Mr. Marvin Eugene “Turk” Mobbs, age 62, of Lyerly, GA, died Friday, June 7, 2024, at Atrium Health Floyd Cherokee Medical Center.

Mr. Mobbs was born January 21, 1962, in Rome, GA, son of the late Richard Edward Mobbs and Josie Florance Battles Mobbs. He was Baptist by faith. Mr. Mobbs was retired from Mount Vernon Mills and worked as a self-employed carpenter.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jackie Mobbs and Jimmy Mobbs.

Survivors include his children, Bud Mobbs, Ben Mobbs, Cody Mobbs, Natalie Mobbs, and Chasity Daugherty; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and special friends, Butch Scott, Johnny Tidmore, Lamar Pledger, and Randy Green.

Memorial services will be held at 4:00 P.M. (GA Time) Friday, June 14, 2024, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Collins officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later time at Weiss Lake Memorial Gardens.

Andrew Eugene “Gene” Brock, Obit (M)

Mr. Andrew Eugene “Gene” Brock, age 89, of Summerville, GA, died Thursday, June 6, 2024, at his residence.

Mr. Brock was born September 16, 1934, in Bremen, GA, son of the late Harold M. Brock and Sarah C. Howard. He was a member, Deacon, and Sunday School Teacher at Subligna Baptist Church, and prior to his retirement, was employed with the National Cash Register Company for 33 years. Mr. Brock was also a veteran of the United States Army and had worked at Feed the Hungry.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Charles Brock, George (Bee) Brock; sisters, Vassie Ann Jackson, Brenda (Charles) Kelly; brothers-in-law, Donald Allgood, Ralph Braswell, and Richard Hamilton; sisters-in-law, Cathy Thomas Brock, and Cathy Brock.

Survivors include his wife, Autry Brock; son, Shane (Angela) Brock; a daughter, Teresa (Tim) Kirchmeyer; brothers, David Brock, Nay Brock, Hiriam (Linda) Brock; sisters, Catherine (Rodney) Gallman, Martha Allgood, Sandra Braswell, Faye Hamilton; sister-in-law, Blanche Brock; 4 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Brock will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Subligna Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Bishop officiating. Interment will follow in Subligna Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Hayes, Clint Hunter, Shane Lee, Kevin Scoggins, Jason Whitfield, and Joe Stephens.

Mr. Brock will be in state at Subligna Baptist Church and the family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Sunday.

Franklin “Lee” Elrod, Obit (M)

Mr. Franklin “Lee” Elrod, age 77, of Summerville, GA, died Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Oakview Health and Rehabilitation.

Mr. Elrod was born December 20, 1946, in Chattoogaville, GA, son of the late Benjamin Franklin Elrod and Jewel Hurley Elrod. He had attended Mill Creek Baptist Church, and prior to his retirement, was employed as maintenance supervisor with Harriet and Henderson.

Mr. Elrod was a hard-working and loving man. He loved to fish and to collect knives and guns. He was always working on something or tinkering with his truck. Lee was a great daddy and always had his daughter with him fishing when she was growing up. He also loved watching westerns on T.V.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Gail Elrod; siblings, Larry Elrod, Sheila Elrod, and Deloris Suties; and step-grandchild, Joshua Tidmore.

Survivors include his daughter, April Leigh Elrod; step-daughters, Debra Butler, Donna Mostiller; step-son, Chad Tidmore; a brother, Freddy Elrod; sisters, Dean Sparks, Carol Jones, and Sharon Elrod; first cousin and friend, Ramon Lee Hurley; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

MR. BILLY JOE BICE, age 58 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday, May 30, 2024 at his residence. He was born in Summerville, Georgia on June 7, 1965, son of the late Frank Bice Sr, and Velma Mae Bundrum Bice. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Regina Bice; brothers, Frank Bice, Jr., Leonard Fay Bice, Richard Lamar Bice, Terry Lee Bice and Roland Lee Bice, Sr.

Surviving are his children, Christopher Bice and Brandon Bice; sister, Cindy Williams and brother, Danny Ray Bice; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral Services will be held, Sunday, June 2, 2024, at 3 p.m. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Bice officiating; interment in Summerville Cemetery. Judith Wynell (Judy) Lyday, Obit (ER)

MISS JUDITH WYNELL (JUDY) LYDAY, age 73, of Rome, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2024, in a Rome hospital. She was born in Fort Payne, Alabama on July 16, 1950, to the late Edmond Taylor (T.) Lyday and Lois Cash Lyday. Miss Lyday was a graduate of Chattooga High School and received her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from University of West Georgia; afterward had a career with Georgia DFACS, where she dedicated her life helping the elderly.

Surviving are aunts, Clara Bozemen and Martha Hulgan; several First Cousins, several Special Friends including “Little Gril” Emily Self.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, June 1st, at 3:00 P.M. EST, from Graveside in Bankhead Chapel Cemetery, with Rita Galloway, Rev. Harold Helton, and Emily Self officiating. Active Pallbearers Brandon Galloway, Derek Buffington.

Gerald Dewayne Teague, Obit (M)

Rev. Gerald Dewayne Teague, age 72 of Mentone, AL passed away Monday, May 27, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.

Rev. Teague was born in Menlo, GA to the late Grady and Mary McGinnis Teague. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, a member of the American Legion Post 0215, and Valley Head Lodge 394. Rev. Teague was the pastor of Sardis Baptist Church for over 30 years, and he pastored several churches in Georgia, Alabama, and Alaska. He was also retired from the City of Summerville water department.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers, R.D. Maples and Billy Teague.

Survivors include his loving wife, Fredia Teague; son, William (Lala) Teague; daughter Virginia Applebaum, siblings, Larry (Joann) Teague, L.C. (Elenor) Teague, and Nancy Teague; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Rev. Teague will take place at 11:00 EST Thursday, May 30 at the Chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Howell and Rev. Barry Peppers officiating. Interment with Military Honors and Masonic Rights will follow at AMI cemetery with the grandsons and nephews serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 – 8:00 EST at Mason Funeral Home.
