Mrs. Era Faye Logan

Mrs. Era Faye Logan, age 81, of Trion, passed away Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Floyd Medical Center. Mrs. Logan was born in Trion, Georgia on May 9, 1928, son of the late David Oscar Smith and Janie Marie Ledford Smith. She was of the Church of God Faith and prior to retirement, was employed with Mt. Vernon Mills. Mrs. Logan was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Logan on April 9, 2005, and by two sisters, Hazel Nixon and Nelda Clowdis. Mrs. Logan is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Janet Logan, Billy and Shirley Logan and Lamar Logan all of Trion; brother, Earl Smith of Summerville; sisters, Ann Bailey of Trion and Sue (Ronnie) Rogers; 2 grandchildren, Kerry (Brad) Jones of Summerville and Angie (Kevin) Crain of Trion; and one great-grandson, Braden Crain; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Mrs. Logan will be held Monday, November 16, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Howell officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Max Reed, Kevin Crain, Brad Jones, Ronnie Rogers, Larry Nixon, and Phillip Nixon. Mrs. Logan will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Monday from 12:00 Noon until the funeral hour. 

Danny Lee Sorrells

Mr. Danny Lee Sorrells, age 27, of Lyerly, GA died Monday, November 16, 2009 at Redmond Regional Medical Center. Mr. Sorrells was born March 9, 1982 in Atlanta, GA. He attended the Faith Temple Holiness Church. Mr. Sorrells is survived by his father, Dwight Sorrells; mother, Paulette Fennell Sorrells; caregivers, Jeff & Laura Dotson, Dwight and Zack Dotson; brothers, Michael Sorrells and Quinton Youther; several aunts, uncles, niece and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Thursday, November 19, 2009 at the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Rev. John Mann and Rev. Phil Whitley officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson Cemetery.Active pallbearers will be Ray Camp, Terry Sorrells, Lamar Chapman, Dwight Dotson, Zack Dotson, and Troy Dunn. Milburn Albert Teems

U.S. Veteran Mr. Milburn Albert Teems, age 85, of Lyerly, GA died Sunday, November 15, 2009 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Teems was born July 19, 1924 in Chattooga County, GA the son of the late Robert "Bob" Teems and Mattie Brown Teems. He was a self-employed plumber and a member of the Highland Avenue Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Marines. Mr. Teems was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Hunnicutt Teems; and sisters, Lillie May Booker and Irene Booker.

Mr. Teems is survived by six daughters, Linda Lawson, Charlotte Flood, Wanda Styles, Dorothy Thompson, Jackie Sammons, and Debra McCary; 16 Grandchildren; 31 Great Grandchildren; and 10 Great Great Grandchildren.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at Summerville Cemetery with Rev. Robbie Jackson officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Thomas Flood, Jr, Wendell Flood, Jamey Hunnicutt, Johnny Hunnicutt, Chuck Thompson, and Chad Thompson.

Mr. Teems will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Monday, November 16, 2009.

 

Billy Warren Hurley

MR. BILLY WARREN HURLEY, SR., age 67, of Bargain Lane, Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday (November 13, 2009) morning in a Rome hospital. Born in Cherokee County, Alabama on July 3, 1942, a son of the late Miles Irby and Ruby Mae Bagley Hurley. Mr. Hurley was a self employed carpenter.

Surviving are daughter & spouse, Ginger & Duane Thomas of Summerville; sons and spouses, Billy Jr. & Roxanna Hurley and Jeff & Renea Hurley both of Subligna; sisters & spouse, Mary Woodham of Summerville and Ruth & Hugh Garner of Allexus, AL.; grandchildren, Scott, Ashley, & Skyler Thomas; Les, Tim, & Travis Penson; Elijah Blu Hurley; Six Great Grandchildren; former wife, Janice Hurley of Summerville; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral service will be held Sunday (November 15th) at 4:00 P.M. EST from graveside in Unity Cemetery in Cedar Bluff, Alabama with Joe Roberson officiating. There will be no visitation; the family may be contacted at their respective homes.

Eric Lebron “Tadpole” Phillips

Mr. Eric Lebron (Tadpole) Phillips, age 62, Kemp Road, Lafayette, GA, passed away Wednesday Nov. 11, 2009, at his residence.  Mr. Phillips was born October 1, 1947, in Walker County GA, the son of the late Wilburn Floyd and Rita Lorene Wofford Phillips. He was a truck driver having worked for Jones & Jones Trucking & Logging, a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Vietnam.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Saine, daughters, Erica Phillips, Summerville, GA, Tabitha Hamby & (Jerry  Fielding), Lafayette, GA, Kristi Reed, Pensacola, FL, sons, Jeff (April) Phillips, Summerville, GA, Kenny (Bonnie) Phillips, Terry Saine, Lafayette, GA, sister, Nancy Jo (Billy) Warren, Summerville, GA, 11 grandchildren.

Mr. Samuel H. York, Jr.

Mr. Samuel Huron York, Jr., age 84, of Highway 157, Menlo, GA passed away Monday,  November 9, 2009 in Floyd Medical Center.  Mr. York was born August 2, 1925 in DeKalb County, GA.  Mr. York was a veteran of the United States Army. He was retired from the United States Post Office, was a charter member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Dalton, GA and an associate member of the Trion United Methodist Church in Trion, GA. 

Mr. York was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Bell Biles York; father and mother, Sam York, Sr. and Mary Bell Blasingame York; brothers, Harold and Charles York; and a grandson, Robert H, York, Jr.

Mr. York is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Greg Westbrook of Menlo, GA and Mary and Doug Croy of Dalton, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Sheila York of Menlo, GA; sisters, Lucille Barimo of Franklin, TN and Dorothy Travillian of Dalton, GA;  granddaughter, Samantha Lester of Menlo; grandson, Douglas Croy of Dalton, GA; 3 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, November 13, 2009 at 11am from the chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Art Graves and Rev. Rob Pierce officiating.  Interment will follow in West Hill Cemetery in Dalton, GA.

Mr. York will lie-in-state Thursday, November 12, 2009 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4pm until 7pm.Pallbearers will be family and friends.  Honorary pallbearers will nurses and staff of F Hall of Oakview Nursing & Rehab Center.  They are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 10:30am on Friday.

Danny Tyler Corn

Mr. Danny Tyler Corn, age 14, of Lyerly, GA died Saturday, November 7, 2009 from injuries received in a four-wheeler accident. Tyler was born December 30, 1994 in Rome, GA. He was an 8th grade student at Lyerly School. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Johnny and Mary Landrum. Survivors include his parents, James & Judy Blalock; brother, Gary Crouch; sister, Ashley Corn; grandparents, Buddy & Lula Blalock and Buddy and Frances Corn; uncles, Tony Blalock, Johnny Landrum; aunts, Connie Malloy and Mary Ojala. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Rev. J. B. McNeil officiating. Mr. S. Harris Caldwell Jr.

Mr. S. Harris Caldwell, Jr., age 71, of Villa Rica, Georgia passed away Saturday afternoon at his residence. A native of Cedartown, Georgia, he was born to the late S. Harris Caldwell Sr. and Inrene Long Caldwell on April 9, 1938. Mr. Cardwell operated the former Lowry’s Department Store for seventeen years, First Federal Savings and Loan, and was a certified public accountan until retirement. He was preceeded in death by wife the late Jane Lowry Caldwell on July 11, 1993.

Surviving are two daughters and spouses – Kim and John Dillon of Huntsville, AL and Karen and Eddie Pitman of Villa Rica; son and spouse- Reed and Jennifer Caldwell of Lilburn; grandchildren- Joshua Dillon, Ashley Dillon, Casey Pittman, Stephanie Pittman, Connor Caldwell and Ethan Caldwell; niece – Angela Marshall.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 9th, at 1:30pm from the Summerville First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Hicks officiating. Interment in Summerville Cemetary. Pallbearers include Jerry Prince, Gary McConnell, Jim Woodard, Jack Allen, and Sam Bible. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 until 7pm at Earle Rainwater Funeral Home.

Mrs. Louise Busbin Hubler

Mrs. Janie W. Scoggin

Mrs. Janie Scoggin Wilson, age 87, of 799 Little Egypt Road, Summerville, GA, died Wednesday evening, November 4, 2009 at a local hospital.

A native of Chattooga County, Mrs. Wilson was born on March 10, 1922, the daughter of the late John L and Janie Mae Morgan Scoggin.  She was a member of the Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church and the Bessie Myrick Sunday School Class.  Mrs. Scoggin was a retired secretary and was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Bill Shaw in 2008.  Mrs. Wilson was married on December 14, 1941 to Ernest Franklin Wilson who preceded her in death in 1974.

Survivors included 2 daughters:  Johnnie Shaw of Summerville and Wanda Barnett of Mobile, Alabama; 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Janie Scoggin Wilson will be held this Friday afternoon, (November 6), at 2pm at the Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church with the Rev. Mac McCurry and the Rev. Clyde Hampton officiating.  Interment will follow in the following lot of Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Wilson will lie-in-state at the church Friday from 12noon until 2pm.  The family will receive friends at the church from 12noon until 2pm.
