Mrs. Annie Lee Howard

Mrs. Annie Lee Howard, age 89, of Summerville, GA died Thursday, August 27, 2009 at Oakview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Howard was born July 11, 1920 in Trion, GA, the daughter of the late Charley Williams and Martha Gass Williams.

 She was retired from Riegel Textile. Mrs. Howard was a member of the Church of Christ Pennville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Howard; and four brothers, James Williams, Melvin Williams, Gene Mac Williams, and Forest Williams. Mrs. Howard is survived by two sisters, Daphine Hammitt, Summerville, GA and Betty Duckett, Rossville, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Saturday, August 29, 2009 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Min. Robbie Eversole officiating. Burial will follow in Garrett Cemetery.

Ms. Jo Ann Daniel Knox, age 52, of Summerville, GA, passed away Tuesday August 25, 2009,at her residence. Ms. Knox was born December 12, 1956, in Chattooga County GA, the daughter of the lateLuther Daniel, Jr., and Rose Ella McClendon Daniel.. She was a weave instructor at Mt. VernonMills, team instructor at Synthetic, top sales person at Independent Life, a follower of Christ,and an excellent care giver. Survivors include her children, Alex Dewayne Knox, Alishella Rena Murphy, brothers, Roosevelt Starling, Luther Daniel, Paul Daniel, Otis Daniel, David Daniel, sisters, Mary Mosley, Marilyn Howard, Margaret Moore, Minnie Williams, Wanda Daniel, Shirley Daniel, and several Nieces and Nephews. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p. m. Mr. Harvel Gene Moon

Mr. Harvel Gene Moon, age 65, of Trion, GA died Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at Floyd Medical
Center.
Mr. Moon was born October 13, 1943 in Centre, AL, the son of the late Emory Moon and Imogene
Barnes Moon. He was retired from Roper Corporation.
Mr. Moon is survived by his wife, Debbie Moon; children, Thomas Allen, Centre, AL, Tina
and Brandt Malphrus, Buford, SC, and Sonya and Terry Edward, Rome, GA; half brother, Tony
Moon, 11 Grandchildren; 5 Great-Grandchildren; a number of Nieces and Nephews.
The family will receive friends at Mason Funeral Home from 11:00 until 2:00 p. m. on Friday,
August 21, 2009. Mr. Moon will be cremated and there will be no service. In lieu of flowers the

Mrs. Lillie Mae “Jackie” Mills

Mrs. Lillie Mae “Jackie” Mills, age 87, of 1345 Redmond Road, Rome, formerly of the Glenwood Community passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2009, at a local hospital.Mrs. Mills was born in Chattooga County Georgia on February 11, 1922, daughter of the late William Russell Lowry and Myrtle Adams Lowry.  She was married to Benny Edward Mills on May 18, 1940 and he preceded her in death on February 8, 2005.  She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Mary Jo Treadaway and 2 brothers, Floyd Lowry and Herman Lowry.Mrs. Mills was a homemaker and was a member of the Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church, where she was a part of the P.V.N. Pilgrims and taught children’s Sunday school for a number of years.  She was also a longtime member of the Armuchee Home Demonstration Club.Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Janice Mills Smith and her husband, Randy of Rome; a son, Randall Edward Mills and his wife, Georgina, of Warner Robins; 6 grandchildren, Kevin Mills, Jason Mills, both of Warner Robins, Mrs. Erin Smith Bryan and her husband, Michael, Mrs. Emily Smith Matson and her husband Patrick, Miss Lauren Grace Smith and Jacob Smith all of Rome; 4 great-grandchildren, Logan Mills, Thomas Bryan, Lacy Bryan, and Isaac Bryan; 3 sisters, Mrs. Jeanne Henderson, Trion, Mrs. Betty Tucker, and Mrs. Nancy Lowry both of Summerville; several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held Friday, August 14, 2009, at 4pm at the Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mrs. Betty Jo Camp

Mrs. Betty Jo Camp, age 78, of Summerville, GA, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2009, in Hutcheson Medical Center. Mrs. Camp was born May 11, 1931, in Chattooga County Georgia, the daughter of the late Paul and Ad Gilreath. She was a loving wife, mother, and friend. Mrs. Camp was a member of Trion First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Preston Camp. Mrs. Camp was retired from Fisher’s, where she worked in the bakery for many years. Survivors include her son, Randall Preston "Randy" Camp, Summerville, GA. and several Nieces and Nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p. m. Friday, August 14, 2009 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mrs. Mildred Pauline Whittle

Mrs. Mildred Pauline Whittle, age 88, of Cloudland, GA, passed away Sunday August 9, 2009, in Floyd Medical Center.

 Mrs. Whittle was born Nov. 25, 1920, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the daughter of the late Ernest and Nellie May Picou. Mrs. Whittle was a retired School Secretary with the Miami, Florida Dade County School System.

Survivors include her husband, Shelton Whittle; son & daughter-in-law, Charles & Charlotte Whittle, Mentone, AL; daughters & son-in-law, Susan Wilcox, Patricia & John Compton, Cloudland, GA; grandchildren, Kelly Thomas, Kristi Wilcox, Justin Rose, Sarah Millican, Paul Whittle,;great-grandchildren, Shania Thomas, Logan Millican, Nathaniel Millican.

Mr. Charles Randal "Randy" Millican, age 44, of LaFayette, GA died Thursday, August 6, 2009 at his residence. Mr. Millican was born October 2, 1964 in Fort Payne, AL. He was previously employed with Mt. Vernon Mills. Mr. Millican attended the United by Faith Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by an uncle, Charles Lloyd Millican. Mr. Sameul Langston Wofford

Mr. Samuel Langston “Sam” Wofford, age 69, of Kennedy Road, Ft. Payne, AL, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2009, at his residence.  Mr. Wofford was born May 25, 1940 in Chattooga County, GA.   He was a salesperson and a member of the New Canaan Non-Denominational Church.Mr. Wofford was preceded in death by his father and mother, Edgar Jennings and Annie Mae Langston Wofford; brother, Larry Wofford; and mother-in-law, Vivian Louise Kennedy

.Survivors are his wife, Faye Kennedy Wofford of Ft. Payne, AL; sonand daughter-in-law, Randall  & Kay Wofford of LaFayette, GA; daughters, Donna Wofford Bullard of Gaylesville, Al and Brenda Wofford Martin of Summerville, GA; brothers, Harold Wofford of Cleveland, TN, Dale Wofford of Westland, Michigan and Jerry Wofford of Menlo, GA; sister, Martha Ann Smith of Trion, GA; step-daughters, Paula Garrison of Summerville, GA and Patricia Campbell of Trion, GA; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 2pm from the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Bud Davis and Rev. Jerry Williams officiating.  Interment will be in Trinity Methodist Church Cemetery in Henegar, Al.

Mr. Wofford will lie-in-state Friday, August 7, 2009 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 until 9pm.

Pallbearers will be Edward Kennedy, Jeff Wofford, Tony Blansit, Edwin Blansit, Brandon Carlton and J. T. Campbell.  Honorary pallbearer will be Howell Wofford.

Mr. Gerald M. Byers

Mr. Gerald Marchant Byers, age 37, of Summerville, GA died Tuesday, August 4, 2009 from injuries received in a motorcycle accident.

Mr. Byers was born June 1, 1972 in Pell City, Alabama, the son of Rhodell Byers and the late Gertrude Thomas Byers. He was employed with Pliant Corporation. He was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Mr. Byers is survived by his wife, Donna Byers; son, Devan Byers; step-son, Nicholas Kay; father and step-mother, Rhodell and Marilyn Byers; sister, Stephanie Thomas Byers; brother, Eric Byers; half-brothers, Ramon Roberson and Rashun Roberson; and a host of Aunts, Uncles,Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon EST on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Ragland, AL. Rev. Thomas Kelley will officiate, with expressions by Ervin Moss. Burial will follow in Morning Star Cemetery in Ragland, AL. Active pallbearers will be Ervin Moss, Donnie Grizzell, Chris Buchanan, Marwin Moss, Cornelius Moss, and Devan Curtis.
