Mrs. Maurene P. Wallin, Obit (Coffman)

Mrs. Maurene P. Wallin, age 96 of Summerville, GA, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2017 at the Oak View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

 

Mrs. Wallin was born in Broomtown, Alabama on February 18, 1921, daughter of the late Tim Pickle and Emma Brady Pickle.  She was a member of the Trion First Baptist Church and prior to retirement was employed with Best Manufacturing.  She was a fantastic cook, loved to quilt and was an extremely hard worker.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wallin was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Wallin; granddaughter, Kimberly King; sister, Waynie Edge; and brothers, Harold Pickle and Wilburn Pickle.

 

Mrs. Wallin is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Mike King; sister, Haynie Speer; grandchild, Lance King; great-grandchild, Mikayla King; special friends Margaret Henderson, Dot Wilson, and Jean Richardson; and a number or nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Wallin will be held Sunday May 21, 2017 at 3 P.M. at Trion First Baptist Church, Trion, GA with Pastor Casey Bramlett and Rev. Warren Moorehead officiating.  Interment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens with Dr. Floyd Roebuck and Rev Stanley Smith officiating. 

 

Pallbearers will be Greg McCollum, Gerald Pickle, Tim Pickle, Tyler Pickle, Mark Pickle, and Gary Floyd.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Deacons at the Trion First Baptist Church, Matt Russell, Jason Pickle, Bobby Gilliland, and Wayne Gilliland. 

 

Mrs. Wallin will be instate at the Coffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6-8P.M.  On Sunday Mrs. Wallin will lie instate at the Trion First Baptist Church from 2 P.M. until the funeral hour.

Mr. Morgan C. Hampton Obit (C)

 Mr. Morgan C. Hampton, age 84 of Trion, Georgia passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at his residence.

The last of eight brothers and sisters, Mr. Hampton was born in Lafayette, Georgia on June 9, 1932.  He loved to Garden in the spring and enjoyed working in his yard.  Prior to retirement he was employed as a car hauler for many of the used car dealers in the area.  Mr. Hampton was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Hampton, and two sons, David Carl Hampton and Terry Lee Hampton.

Mr. Hampton is survived by sons and daughter in law, Kenny and Donna Hampton; Johnny Hampton, Gene Hampton and Randy Hampton; grandchildren, Stacy Henderson, Doreen Hampton, Josh Hampton, Heath Hampton, Shanna Hampton, Autumn Hampton, Kensly Hampton, Brittney Hampton and Stephanie Hampton; several great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Hampton will be held Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Shores officiating.  Interment will follow in the Corinth Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jody Anderson, Randy Stoker, Tony Chamlee, Justin Chamlee, Charles Daggett and Randy Dover.  Honorary Pallbearers will be area used auto dealers and their employees.

Kendrick DaMorris Hines, Obit (Willis)

Kendrick DaMorris Hines – Age 11, of Summerville, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2017. He was born on September 28, 2005. He was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church and a student at Leroy Massey Elementary School. He was active in his school activities and sports, enjoyed playing electronic games, listening to music, and hanging out with friends. His great grandparents, Richard and Marie Bell, uncles, Edward Bell, Jr. and DeShrick Howard, preceded him in death.

Mr. George O’Neal Powell Obit (C)

Mr. George O’Neal Powell age 81 of Summerville, passed away Monday, May 15, 2017 at the Oak View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

 

Mr. Powell was born in Lafayette, Georgia on May 1, 1936, son of the late William Powell, Sr. and Minnie Lee Morton Powell.  He attended the Solid Rock Baptist Church, loved to garden and work in the yard, and prior to retirement, was employed as a Caretaker at the Mt. Vernon Lodge.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Price Powell; brother, William “Sonny” Price, Jr., step-son, Ray Price, Sr., and a granddaughter, Jerica London.

 

Mr. Powell is survived by his children, Betsy Perry, Angelia Powell and Homer and Debra Price; sister-in-law, Ann Price; special friends, Steve Lanham and Rev. David Hayes; 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and a number nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Services for Mr. Powell will be held Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. David Hayes officiating.  Interment will be in the Allgood Cemetery.

Miss Jessica Elizabeth “Jessie” Tudor Obit (M)

Miss Jessica Elizabeth “Jessie” Tudor, age 23, of Lyerly, GA, died Monday, May 15, 2017, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Miss Tudor was born May 31, 1993, in Athens, GA, daughter of Vergil Francis and Christy Lynn Dooley Tudor.  She was a member of the Lyerly United Methodist Church and was the assistant manager of the Zaxby’s of Dalton.  Jessie was an honor graduate of the Darlington Class of 2011 and had also attended the North Georgia College where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority.  She was an avid animal lover and enjoyed anything that involved being outside with her dad.  She also loved deer hunting, fishing, singing, doing makeup, and sunbathing with her mom.  Jessie had a heart of gold and was fiercely loyal and protective of her family, friends, and anyone who was considered an “underdog.”  She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Tommy Hughes Dooley and several great-grandparents.
Miss Tudor is survived by her parents, Vergil and Christy Dooley Tudor; sisters and brother-in-law, Kristin Baylee and Zack Taylor Carpenter, Abbey LeeAnn Tudor; grandparents, Peggy Dooley, Charles and Martha Tudor; great-grandmother, Annie Mae Williams; aunts and uncles, Rusty Dooley, Susan and Rusty Webb, Doug and Jennifer Tudor, Jan and Britt Willingham, and David Tudor; several cousins; and her dogs that she considered her babies, Harlee, Maverick, and Delilah.
Funeral services for Miss Tudor will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, May 18, 2017, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will follow in the Lyerly Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Zack Carpenter, Rusty Dooley, Doug Tudor, Rusty Webb, Britt Willingham, David Tudor, Anna Swafford, and Tina McRae.  Honorary pallbearers will be Isaiah Foster, Hunter Wilkerson, Brad Brumbelow, Meagan Hurley, Tori Willingham, Amos Willingham, and Kelsey Fletcher.

Mr. James Nathan Henderson Obit (M)

Mr. James Nathan Henderson, age 63, of Lyerly, GA, passed away Saturday May 13, 2017, in Floyd Medical Center.

Mr. Henderson was born August 8, 1953, the son of the late Woodrow William and Ruby Christine Ingram Henderson.  James was employed with Cook Produce, and known as produce man.  Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Myrle Levon Henderson, sisters, Brenda Jean Claire.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Christena Battles and Bud Mobbs, sisters and brothers-in-law, Gloria and Wallace Cook, Janet and David Hartman,  special friends,   Jim & Tammy Clark, Jerry Cook, Glen & Pam Marshall, Ray & Donna Williams, 5 grandchildren, 1  great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews and  great-nieces  and great-nephews.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday May 17, 2017,  from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mason Funeral Home.

Ms. Susan Betty Ferris Obit (M)

Ms. Susan Betty Ferris, age 63, of Summerville, GA passed away Friday, May 12, 2017 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Ms. Ferris was born January 19, 1954 in California. She was of the Christian faith and a member of the Native American Karuk Tribe. She was a generous, loving, and caring parent and grandparent who will be missed by all that knew her.

Ms. Ferris is survived by her loving companion and best friend; Ricky Portwood, children; Leah Portwood, Samuel Katz, Daniel Katz, and Israel Katz, sister; Toni Halla, 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Ms. Ferris will be Monday- May 15, 2017 at the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with the Rev. Joey Thorton officiating. Burial will follow at White Cemetery in Villanow. Active pallbearers will be Charlie Portwood, Samuel Katz, Daniel Katz, Charlie Portwood, Jr. Steven Burnside, and Zach Dennis.

Mrs. Kathryn “Kat” Padgett Obit (ER)

 MRS. KATHRYN OPHELIA “KAT” PADGETT, age 73, of Martin Street, Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday evening in a Rome hospital, following a brief battle with cancer.  Mrs. Padgett was born to the late Dan and Madie Ledford Priest on January 30, 1944.  She was a homemaker and was previously employed at WalMart and Fred’s.  Other than her parents, Mrs. Padgett was preceded in death by siblings, Guy Lee McGuire, Essie McGuire, Ollie Dan Priest, Ed Bates, Lorine Arnold and infant brother, Riley Priest.

Surviving are husband, Charles Padgett; daughters and son-in-law, Mary Padgett and Kathy and Darryl Baker; sister, Inez Blackmon all of Summerville; Nieces, Nephews, and Her beloved cat, Tippy and grand kitties, Fancy and Vinnie.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 15th, at 3:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Mrs. Elizabeth Carr Wofford, age 86, of Summerville, GA (formerly of Menlo), passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Oakview Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Wofford was born September 29, 1930, in Summerville, GA, daughter of the late Arthur and Sarah McAteer Carr.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Chapel Hill Baptist Church.  Mrs. Wofford was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Edwards; brothers, Andy Carr, Lewis Carr, and Amos Carr; former spouse and the father of her children, Thomas Bryant Wofford; and a special niece, Francis W. Gilreath.

Mrs. Wofford is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnn (Rodger) Holton, Nancy (Murray) Garrett; sons and daughter-in-law, John Dean (Carol) Wofford, Glenn Wade Wofford; sisters and brother-in-law; Opal and Rev. Ralph James Sumner, Mabel Coley; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Wofford will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 13, 2017, at the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Mr. Kline Franklin Young Obit (C)

Mr. Kline Franklin Young, age 56, of Trion, passed away Monday, May 8, 2017 at the Floyd Medical Center.

Mr. Young was born in Cullman, Alabama on July 31, 1960, son of the late James Dupree Young and Mamie Edna Rusk.  He was a long time veteran of the United States Army, serving until he was injured in the Gulf War.  He was a loving and faithful and devoted husband and father.  Mr. Young was preceded in death by a son, Jeremy Young; grandson, Daniel Ray Dixon; an infant sister, Sharyn Young, sister, Gail Young, and a brother Dale Young.

Mr. Young is survived by his wife Brenda “Sue” Young; son Jason Young, daughter, Jessica Young; step-children, Jeremy and Sherrie Marks, Michael Bumbalough and Amanda and Anthony Flowers; brothers, Keith Young, Kimbrell Young and Gary Young; sisters in law, Annette Marks, Jeannie Marks and Darlene Mack; and grandchildren and great grandchildren that include, Jasmyne Young, Kylie Young, Hayden Young, Christopher Woods, Joshua Lee Woods, Alyssa Strom, Dylan Marks, Aiden Marks, Carson Marks, Blaken Marks, Barbara Denae Dixon, Vada Dixon, Kimberly Monique Dixon and Allison Michelle Dixon
