Mr. Hugh Charles “Huey” Love

Mr. Hugh Charles “Huey” Love, age 63, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center.

 

Mr. Love was born in Summerville, Georgia on October 6, 1952, son of the late William “Bud” Love and Margie Lee Jones Love.  He was a member of the Four Mile Baptist Church and was most recently employed with the City of Summerville as a mechanic, but had also operated heavy machinery at Rocky Mountain.  Mr. Love was an avid sportsman, playing baseball and football during his High School Years at Chattooga High School under Coach Buddy Windle.  Following High School, Huey played in the Textile League with the Riegel Rifles, and also formed his own Softball Team, Huey’s Team.  In addition to softball, he loved to play horseshoes, Cook, and tinker and work on Race cars and Mud trucks.  Huey was a great and loving Dad that could be hard headed and stubborn, but loved to cut up and have fun, and would go above and beyond to make you laugh. In addition to his Dad, Huey was preceded in death by two brothers, C.M. Love and Mike Love.

 

Mr. Love is survived by his children, Tracey Martel; Megan Bowden and her companion, Matthew Ward, Jeremy Davenport and his wife, April, and Jeff Bentley; mother, Margie Love; sister, Linda Dobbs; brothers, Steve Love and Terry Wofford; Special Friend, Dawn Bowden; grandchildren, Kendall Baker, Leeya Ward, Cole Ward, Isabell Martel, Jared Davenport and Lexi Davenport; one great grandchild, Kane Baker; and a number of nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Services for Huey will be held Sunday, March 20, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Doyle Kelley and Rev. Tom Russell officiating.  Interment will follow in the Green Hill Memory Gardens.

 

The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and are asked to meet at the funeral home Sunday at 1:30 P.M.:  Gary Hardeman, Jamie (Chavo) Smith, Kevin (Tater) Martin, Jason (JRod) Jarrett, Andy (Red Dot) Howell and Jeremy (MoMo) Morris. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ron Rowland, Chris (Mo) Mosely, Clinton Agnew, Gene Ellenburg, Paul Meredith, Richard Lindsey, Kenneth Hunter, Phil Lenderman, Jimmy Lenderman, Tim Winters, and all of his horseshoe and softball friends.

 

Mr. Love will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.

Mrs. Betty Jo Hall

Mrs. Betty Jo Hall, age 69, of Trion, GA, went home to be with the Lord Friday, March 18, 2016, at her residence.

 

Mrs. Hall was born July 11, 1946, in Fort Payne, AL, daughter of the late Joe Hales and Irene Roberts Hales.  She was a member of the Central Avenue Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed with Roper.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Roxie Hales; step-brothers, Joel Lee Matthews and Bobby Matthews.

 

Mrs. Hall is survived by her husband, Eugene "Gene" Hall; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Patty Hall, Michael and Bonita Hall; daughters and son-in-law, Jeanie Rebecca and Stacey Whited, Terra Lynn Ammons; and 8 grandchildren. In addition to her own children, Betty and Gene foster parented over two hundred children in the area from 1982 until present. They were honored as Foster Parents of the Year on more than one occasion.

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Hall will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday March 20, 2016 from  the Central Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Owen "Bud" Davis and Rev. Brandon Bishop officiating.  Interment will follow in the Howell Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Robert Hall, Michael Hall, Ethan Hall, Greg Hall, Jeff Blansit, and Virgil McCoy.

 

Mrs. Hall will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Saturday  March 19, 2016.  Mrs. Hall will  also lie in state at the church Sunday from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service.

Mr. Billy Ray McGuire, Obit. (D)

Mr. Billy Ray McGuire, age 74, of Lyerly, died March 17, 2016 at Oak View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. McGuire was born April 26, 1941, the son of Arthur and Lula Teems McGuire.

He was a retired truck driver and enjoyed spending time working in the yard at his home in Lyerly. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Lisa McGuire; and a grandson, Corey Thompson. Three sisters, Rosa Simmonds, Ella Mae Floyd, Mary Davis; two brothers, James Edwin Mcguire, and William "Dub" McGuire also preceded him.

Mr. McGuire is survived by his daughters, Gina McGuire of Lyerly and Hope and Neil Shropshire of Pennville; a son, Charles "Chuck" McGuire of Albany, Ga; grandchildren, Adam and Alana McGuire of Lafayette, Ga, Jonathan Shropshire, and Harlie McGuire of Summerville, Ga. He is also survived by 5 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 4:00 PM at Berryton Church of God with Dr. Stanley Smith and Rev. Bill Cox officiating. Interment will follow in the Armuchee Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Berryton Church of God from 2 PM until the funeral hour.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: David McGuire, Travis McGuire, Adam McGuire and Tye McGuire, Neil Shropshire, and Sid Swords. They are requested to meet at the church by 3:45 PM.

Mrs. Myrtle Ellen Helms Obit (M)

Mrs. Myrtle Ellen Helms, age 80, of Trion, GA, died Monday, March 14, 2016, at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation. 

Mrs. Helms was born December 30, 1935, in Cloudland, GA, daughter of the late Charles W. and Victoria Elizabeth Durham Smith.  She was a member of the Welcome Hill Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed with Mount Vernon Mills.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Louise Copeland and Sara Humphries; and a granddaughter, Heather Helms. 

Mrs. Helms is survived by her son, George "Michael" Helms; brothers, Bill Smith and Charles "Leonard" Smith; sisters, Vickie "Diane" Willingham and Jewell Wallis; grandchildren, Eddie Helms, Michelle Helms, and Amanda Helms; great-grandchildren, Ana-Leyse Bates, Zachery Bates, Jr., Madison Helms, Heaven Helms, Brayden Uptain, and Falcon Helms. 

Funeral services for Mrs. Helms will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, March 17, 2016, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Helms officiating.  Interment will follow in the Mount Olive Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Eddie Helms, Benny Humphries, Wayne Humphries, Zachery Bates, Jr., Coray Helms, David Helms, and John Smith.

Mr. Michael Wayne Mobbs, Obit (M)

 

Michael Wayne Mobbs, age 39, of Gaylesville, AL, passed away Friday March 11, 2016, at his residence, from injuries he received in an automobile accident and living in a coma for almost 23 years.

Mr. Mobbs was born April 11, 1976, in Rome, GA, the son of Jimmy Wayne and Shelia Diane McDonald Mobbs.  He was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church, other than his parents he was preceded in death by his grandparents Richard Mobbs, Fred McDonald and Betty Slayton.

Survivors include sister and brother-in-law, Kimberly & Derrick Lee, grandmother, Josie Mobbs, special aunt & uncle, Philip & Debra Nixon.

Funeral service will  be held  Sunday  2:00 p.m. EST from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mickey Skates officiating, interment will follow in the Weis Lake Memorial Gardens.  Active pallbearers, John McDonald, Sammy Vernon, Chadney McDonald, Jackie Brewster, Brian Lee.  Honorary pallbearers, Ronnie McDonald, Kenny McDonald.

Mr. Jimmy “Jack” Thomas, Obit. (C)

Mr. Jimmy “Jack” Thomas, age 90, of Trion, Georgia, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2016 at his residence.  

Mr. Thomas was born in Trion, Georgia on June 21, 1925, son of the late William Cleo Thomas and Clara Pierce Thomas.  He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Navy, a member of the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ and was a self employed farmer.  Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Amy Jo Wilbanks Thomas on January 20, 2015; sister, Mary Ella Thomas, brothers, Max Thomas, Johnny Henry Thomas, Roy Thomas, Cecil Earl Thomas and a great grandson, Jackson Cole Hanes Thomas. 

Mr. Thomas is survived by a daughter, Jo Ann Clements; sons and daughters-in-law, Jackie and Kay Thomas, Arlen and Anna Thomas and Gary Thomas; sister, Goldie Patty; brother-in-law, Bobby Wilbanks; sister-in-law, Saralyn Thomas; 14 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.  

Funeral Services for Mr. Thomas will be held Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Minister Hugh Glaze officiating.  

Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery. 

Pallbearers will be Jeff Thomas, Jeremy Thomas, Kerry Thomas, Cole Thomas, Scott Clements, Cody Thomas, Maverick Herod and Andrew King.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Mr. Thomas’ great grandchildren.

Mrs. Jessie Ann Hardeman, Obit. (ER)

MRS. JESSIE ANN HARDEMAN, age 87, of Goodwin Drive, Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday, Match 10, 2016, afternoon in a Rome hospital.  She was born on May 27, 1928 in the Martindale Community of Walker County, Georgia to the late William Bryan and Sarah Ann Brooks Fletcher.  Mrs. Hardeman was a Homemaker and member of the South Commerce Church of Christ.  She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, the late Amanda Blackwell Early.

Survivors include, Her husband, Paul Hardeman; daughter, Paula Montgomery; son, Brian Hardeman all of Summerville; grandchildren, Melissa & Britt Ragland; great grandchildren, Rodney Early, II, Kennedi, Alexa, Carsen, and Evan Ragland; brother, Benton Lee Fletcher of LaFayette; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Mr. Chad Edward Smith, age 44, of Trion, GA died Monday, March 7, 2016
at Kindred Hospital in Rome, GA.
 
Mr. Smith was born October 16, 1971, in Fort Oglethorpe, GA, the son of Mary
Reynolds and Gordon Smith.  He was employed with Mt. Vernon Mills, where he
worked in the finishing department.
 
Mr. Smith is survived by his mother, Mary Reynolds; sons, James Edward Lee
Smith and Chad Andrew Smith; sister, Priscilla Patterson; brother, Terry Smith;
grandchildren, James Curtis Clay Smith, Brentlee Hunter Smith, Anslee Raynes
Smith and Cooper Wayne Legion Smith.

Mr. James Harry Marks Obit (M)

James Harry Marks of Summerville, GA passed away March 6, 2016 at his home.  

Mr. Marks was born June 18, 1919 in Summerville, GA to the late Harry and Maude Marks.  He was married for 68 years to Mary Thornhill Marks, who died in 2014.  Mr. Marks founded Marks Auto Sales of Summerville, in 1940, and he worked in the used car business for 74 years.  He was a member of the Georgia State Used Car Board in the 1980’s, appointed by Gov. Joe Frank Harris.  Mr. Marks was a veteran of World War II and he served in the Army Air Corp. with

tours of duty in North Aftica, Corsica, Sicily, Sardinia, France and Germany.  He was a First Lieutenant in the 320th Bombardment Group from 1942 to 1946. In addition, he was preceded in death by a son, John Harry Marks; brothers, Tommy Marks and Stuart Marks; sisters, Annis Harris Julia Wyatt, Ruth Schowengerdt, and Mary Majors; and a son-in-law, Charles Marion-Crawford.

He is survived by a brother, Charles Marks, of Summerville, GA; sons, James Whipple Marks and partner, Nicholas C. Apostol, of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Paul Thornhill Marks and wife, Susan Mathis Marks, of Summerville, GA, daughter, Nancy Marks Marion-Crawford, of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; and grandsons, Peter Marion-Crawford and Harry Marion-Crawford.  

Memorial services for James Harry Marks will be Sunday, March 13, 2016 at 4:00 p. m. in the First Presbyterian Church of Trion, GA.  Visitation will be 2:00 until 4:00 p. m. in the fellowship hall of the church.  The family wishes to express a special thanks to Mary Martin, Ruth Starr, Sherry Cooper, and Rosie Stamper for their devotion and care.

Mr. Benjamin Franklin “Benny” Perry Obit (M) updated

Mr. Benjamin Franklin “Benny” Perry, age 84, of Trion, GA died Friday, March 04, 2016
at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
 
Mr. Perry was born March 25, 1931, the son of the late William Posey Perry and Alice Perry. He was owner and operator of Benny’s Tri-Sum Foods for many years.  Mr. Perry
was a member of the Trion Masonic Lodge # 160, and the Yaarab Shriners Temple.  He was a member of Trion United Methodist Church.  Mr. Perry was former Mayor of the Town of Trion and former member and chairman of the Trion City School Board. He was also a veteran of the United States Navy.  Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Ann Duncan Perry and a daughter, Benjie Perry.
 
Mr. Perry is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Mike Klouda; sons and
daughter-in-law, Tim and Deana Perry, and Lamar Logan; grandchildren,
Perry Klouda, Benjie Klouda, Murphy Klouda, and Benjamin Perry.
 
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Trion
United Methodist Church with Rev. Art Graves and Rev. Skip Mitchell officiating.  Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery with  Masonic rites conducted by
Masonic Lodge #160 and military honors provided by the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion .  Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Woodard, Jeff Wells, Tim
Thompson, L. E. Day, Jimmy Rosato, Tab Gable, Perry Klouda, and Murphy
