MRS. JESSIE B. WINGFIELD, age 90, passed away on November 11, 2014, at the local nursing home in Summerville, Georgia. She was born on August 22, 1924 in Mt. Juliet, Wilson County, Tennessee to Leonidus “Lee” Burton and Julie Lillie Prowell Burton.

Even though she grew up on a farm in rural Tennessee, her parents instilled the value of education in her and her siblings. She attended and graduated from Middle Tennessee State University, as it is known now, during the years of World War II. After the war, she was offered a job as a teacher with Trion High School. She later met her future husband, Marion M. Wingfield, Jr., and they married on June 18, 1949. Marion died in 1990 two weeks before their 41st anniversary.

Her teaching career at Trion High School began in 1946 and continued until she retired in 1986. She taught mainly English and journalism, but had also taught art and music some years. She was most proud of teaching at least two generations of many of Trion’s students. While in college she was included in the 1945-1946 “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges”. In 1976 as a teacher, she was included in the book, “Outstanding Leaders in Elementary and Secondary Education”. She and Marion and their children were members of the Trion Presbyterian Church during their time in Trion. She also enjoyed attending services at the Methodist Church in her later years.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marion M. Wingfield, Jr., in 1990 and her four siblings and their spouses, Willie B. (Eleanor) Burton, Lillian (John) Turner, Rilla (Chuck) Reeves and Hewlette (Robert) Moseley. Also preceding her in death were her brothers-in-law/sisters-in-law and their spouses, Jimmy (Norma) Wingfield, and Vula (Harlen) Dewey and Tom Wingfield.

She is survived by her two sons, Marion (Pete) Wingfield, III and Burt (Sherrie) Wingfield as well as by five grandchildren, Kyle (Emily) Wingfield, Brent (Lydia) Wingfield, Rebecca Wingfield, Amanda (David) Scruggs and Jeremy (D’Ann)) Wingfield. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Charlie Wingfield, Owen Wingfield, David Scruggs, Jr., Taylor Scruggs and Wade Scruggs as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Family visitation will be held at the Rainwater Funeral Home on Saturday, November 15 between 12:30 until 2:00 P.M. The funeral service will be held in the chapel of Rainwater Funeral Home on Saturday, November 15, at 2:00 P.M. The Rev. Ronald Reagan will officiate. 

Private family interment in West Hill Cemetery will follow the service. 

The family requests no flowers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Trion Alumni Association Scholarship fund.

Mrs. Della Sparks, age 84, of Trion, Georgia, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2014 at the Oak View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Sparks was born in Trion, Georgia on April 29, 1930, daughter of the late Harper Kirk Yarbrough and Nellie White Yarbrough. She was of the Baptist Faith and worked as a farmer and housewife. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sparks was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Sparks, Sr.

Mrs. Sparks is survived by her sons, John Sparks of Summerville and Ellis Sparks, Jr. of the Mountain View Community; daughter and son-in-law, Sonia and Rickey Avans of Lafayette; sister, Ruby Tidmore; 2 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and a special niece, Judy Morrison of Ringgold.

Graveside and Interment Services will be held Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 2:30 in the West Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Marshall Gray, Earl Tidmore, Steven Gray, Edward Tidmore and Wayne Tidmore.

Mrs. Sparks will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 1:00 P.M. – 2:00 P.M. prior to the graveside services.

Mr. Dewey Clayton Brewster, age 65, of Summerville, Georgia, 

passed away Sunday, October 26, 2014 at his residence.
 
Mr. Brewster was born in Gaylesville, Alabama on December 26,

 1948, son of the late Alf Brewster and Buena Vista Winkle Brewster. 

 He was a person that loved to keep busy, whether it be building

 something, woodworking, working on his farm and anything that 

involved using his tractor.   Mr. Brewster was a member of the Spring 

Creek Baptist Church was a self employed construction contractor.  Mr. Brewster

 was preceded in death by brothers, Hugh Brewster and Junior Brewster; and

 a daughter-in-law, Melinda Kaye Whisenaunt Brewster.
 

Mr. Brewster is survived by his son, Joey Brewster of Summerville;

 brother, Gordon Brewster of Adairsville; sisters, Betty Jean McCollough

 and Linda Gail Cagle of Sand Rock, AL, and Pauline Steele and Bonnie

 Lou Brewster of Cedar Bluff, AL; granddaughter, Kelsea Brewster; mother

 of his son, Janice Brewster; special friend, Reba Childers Brewster; honorary

 grandchildren, Levi Lodge and Seth Lodge, and a number of nieces 

and nephews.
 
Memorial Services for Mr. Brewster will be held Saturday, November 8, 2014 

at 12:00 Noon at Perrenial Springs Circle B Farm with Rev. Chris Holman and Chris Lodge officiating.  

Private Interment will be on the family farm.
 
The family will receive friends Saturday, November 8, 2014 following the memorial service.

Mrs. Lanora Barnette “Gran” Brimer, age 97, of Trion, Georgia passed away Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the Oak View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Brimer was born in Lafayette, Georgia on April 27, 1917, daughter of the late Barney L. Hampton, Sr. and Lula Mitchell Hampton. She was a member of the Trion First Baptist Church and had more recently been attending the Trion United Methodist Church. Mrs. Brimer was preceded in death by her husband, James Henry Brimer; daughter, Jan Young; brother, Barney L. Hampton, Jr.; and sisters, Ruth Landers, Esther Locklear, Louise Campbell and Nell Freeman.

Mrs. Brimer is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Kay Brimer of Trion; sister, Jane Waters of Lafayette; grandchildren, Kayla and Matt Fortune of Summerville and Angie and Chris Ray of Armuchee; great grandchildren, Ashton Ray and Caroline Ray of Armuchee; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Brimer will be held Sunday, November 2, 2014 at 3:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Art Graves, and Rev. Warren Moorehead officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Skip Mitchell officiating.

Pallbearers will be Mrs. Brimer’s Nephews and Great Grandson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ann Lanier, Betty Howard, Susan Broome, Faye Norman, Shirley Peace, Mary Maxwell, Margaret Henderson, Alicia Hamilton, Kathy Ray and the Staff of Oak View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Brimer will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.

Flowers will be accepted, however those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Trion First Baptist Church Scholarship Fund or to the Trion United Methodist Church.

Frances Elizabeth Mahan, age 95 of Maryville, Tennessee, formerly Summerville, passed away October 30, 2014. 

She was born in Summerville, Georgia on October 30, 1919, daughter of the late O.C. Mahan, Sr. and Willie Strickland Mahan. Frances resided in Washington, D.C. for many years and was employed by the Agriculture Department. She also did volunteer work at the White House for a number of Presidents. Mrs. Mahan was preceded in death by her brothers, Austin Mahan and O.C. Mahan Jr.

Mrs. Mahan is survived by her caregivers, Charles and Eve Miller of Maryville, TN.

Graveside and Interment services will be held Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. in the Family plot of Green Hills Memory Gardens.

There is no formal visitation is planned.
