Mr. Ja Coby Demarrge Evans Obit (M)

Mr. Ja Coby Demarrge Evans, age 30, of Summerville, GA, died Monday, October 20, 2014 at Floyd Medical Center.

 

Mr. Evans was born December 29, 1983 in Rome, GA, the son of Stacey Dimaggio Evans and Monica Diane Ford. Ja Coby was educated in the Chattooga County School System and graduated in 2005.  He was a member of the Mount Zion Church in Coosa, GA, where he attended regularly.

 

Survivors include his mother, Monica Diane Ford; father, Stacey D. Evans; sister,

Destiny U. Evans; grandparents, Will H. Ford, Mary N. Martin, Alvin D. Evans, and

Mildred Jones; and a nephew, J. A’ Vion Cotton.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Mason Funeral

Home Chapel, with Rev. Charles Dodson officiating.  Burial will follow in Mt. Zion

Cemetery.

 

Mr. Evans will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends

from 1:00 p. m. until the service hour on Saturday.

Mr. Melvin Lovett Foster SR. Obit (M)

Mr. Melvin Lovett Foster SR, age 64, of Summerville, GA, passed away Saturday October 18, 2014 at the home of his mother.

 

Mr. Foster was born July 22, 1950, in Holland, GA, the son of Lurlene Foster Adams and the late Decatur Landrum.   Mr. Foster began his long work history on the family farm of his grandfather, John Foster, in Holland.  His first job was laboring as a brickmason, but his independent nature led him to several personal ventures.  Mr. Foster’s first business was a package store on Highland Avenue.  During this same time, he also worked as a long-haul truck driver for Trend Mills.  Driving a truck allowed him to travel the length of the country numerous times.  The package store eventually became a pool hall, game room, and then disco for the community youth called Teen Times.  As his son, Melvin, Jr., grew of age, they opened an auto clean-up shop at the same Highland Avenue location, which they turned into Tuff’s Auto Sales.  Mr. Foster served local car buyers there until his death.

 

A dedicated community member, he was active for many years in voter registration as a member of the Chattooga County Democratic Party.   He was a lifelong member of the Hwy 27 Church of Christ.  It was at the church’s annual Valentine’s Dinner held at Pop’s Country Buffet where he married his beloved wife, Hattie, on February 11, 2005.  His most passionate hobby was racing.  He began drag racing in his youth and continued racing at various drag strips in Tennessee until the last year of his life.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Wilson.

 

Survivors include his wife, Hattie Ruth James Foster, mother, Lurlene Adams, children, Melvin Foster Jr, &Michelle Broome, Tracey Hines, Tara Foster, Kipp Foster, Chapitre Marsh, Sheral Marsh, step-children, Allison & Scott Montgomery, Chuck & Mandy Noles, Thomas & Manny Brooks, Timothy & Kenya Brooks, sisters, Lorranie Adams, Theresa & Joseph Thomas, brothers, Ronderal Adams, Renderal  & Leanna Adams, Johnny & Gina Adams, Kenneth & Tammy Adams,

A host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Sunday, October 26, 2014 at Mason

Funeral Home Chapel with Min. L. D. Ludy officiating.  Burial will follow in

Summerville Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Mike Ringer, Gary Blankenship,

Michael Coley, Jordan Adams, Renzell Adams, Stanley Barnes, Kane Darden, and John Sterner.

Mrs. Rose Weems Chevremont, 84 formerly of Summerville passed away on Thursday in the Chatsworth Health Care Center….born in Summerville on November 1st , 1929 to the late Paul Bryant Weems and the late Maude O'Donnell Weems, She was an educator ….she was preceded in death by her husband Guillermo Chevermont and her Children Juan Antonio Chevremont, Cecilia Chevremont and Paulette Chevremont……..She is survived by her daughter Rosita McCamy, Granddaughter Jessica Rich and her husband Sammy Rich of Rome, great grandson Aiden Rich and Noel Rich of Rome, Grandson Patrick McCamy and his wife Jady McCamy of Chatsworth, great grand children Riley McCamy and Sarabeth McCamy of Chatsworth…She also acted as surrogate mother to Lester Miranda of Atlanta…..

Mrs. Pauline Estelle Caroll Rampley Obit (C)

Mrs. Pauline Estelle Carroll Rampley, age 96, of Trion, Georgia, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Oxford, Alabama following an extended illness.

Mrs. Rampley was born in Geraldine, Alabama on February 7, 1918. She was a member of the Trion First Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed with Best Manufacturing. Mrs. Rampley was preceded in death by her husband, Lumas E. “Bud” Rampley, and a daughter, Regina Carol Rampley Gober, and seven brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Rampley is survived by her son-in-law, William Don Gober of Oxford, Alabama; grandson, Nathan Eugene Gober of Oxford, AL; granddaughter, Melissa Carol Gober of Auburn, AL; and nephew, John “Binky” Dawson. 

Funeral Services for Mrs. Rampley will be held Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Dr. Floyd Roebuck officiating. Private Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Arthur “Andrew” Watkins Obit (M)

 Mr. Arthur “Andrew” Watkins, age 59, of Summerville, GA, died Saturday, October 11, 2014, at his residence.

Mr. Watkins was born April 9, 1955, in Menlo, GA, son of the late Betty Miller and Arthur Watkins. He previously worked at Best Manufacturing and Century Glove.

Mr. Watkins is survived by his wife, Barbara Thomas Watkins; a sister, Carolyn Ruth Autry; brothers, Ronnie Watkins and Billy Ray Watkins; and a special nephew, Doyle Thomas and several other nieces and nephews  also survive Mr. Arthur “Andrew” Watkins.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday October 17,  2014  in Macedonia Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Rutledge officiating.  Active pallbearers will be Bryant Tidmore, Jeff Hill, Andy Tidmore, Doyle Thomas, Scott Mitchell, and David Pendergraft.

Mr. Adrian H. “Bud” Powell age 90 of Gaylesville passed away Wednesday October 8th at Cherokee Health & Rehab.

Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Sunday October 12th at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Andy Kellett officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3P.M. at the church.

Pallbearers include Lewis Leath, Lyn Fitzpatrick, Larry Hurley, Billy Kellett, Stanley Koonce and Junior Hughes.

Honorary pallbearers will be Cherokee County Health and Rehab Station 5 staff members.

Survivors include sons, D.L. (Pam) Powell of Broomtown and Douglas (Effie) Powell of Vicenza, Italy: daughter, Sherry (Stacey) Koonce of Summerville, GA. , 3 grandchildren, Lindsey and Josh Koonce and Rosemary Powell.

Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his brother Harrison Powell and sister Julene Powell Chapman.

Mr. Powell was a native of Cherokee County and the son of the late Arthur H. and Gertrude Smith Powell and was a member of the Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. He retired from Georgia Glove Mill in Lyerly Georgia in 1987.

The family request in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Mt. Bethel Cemetery Fund.

Mr. Keef was born July 30, 1955, in Lafayette, GA, the son of the late Jesse and Nancy Lorene Green Keef.  He was retired from Vines Construction Company.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by grandparents, Harvey and Dovie Green.
