Mr. Robert Moser Obit ER

MR. ROBERT MOSER, age 85, of Back Penn Road-Summerville, 
Georgia passed away Tuesday, (January 21, 2014) evening
 in a Rome hospital.  A native of Chicago, Illinois, He was 
born on March 4, 1928 a son of the late Rudolph and Mary
 Moser.  Mr. Moser served in the U. S. Army Signal Corps 
during Korea, was retired from the U.S. Postal Service,
and was preceded in death by his wife the late Bessie
 M. Raines Moser, and brothers, the late Rudolph
 Moser and the late Raymond Moser.

Surviving are sister-in-law- Alice Moser of
McHenry, Ill; several Nieces, Nephews, Grand Nieces 
and Grand Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 25th,
 at 3 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle 
Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Art Graves officiating,
 interment in West Hill Cemetery.  The Family 
will receive friends Saturday at the Funeral Home from 
1 P.M. until the hour of service.  In lieu of flowers the Family
 suggest contributions to the American Heart Association.

Mrs. Nancy Adnia “Abb” McDowell Obit (M)

Mrs. Nancy Adnia “Abb” McDowell, age 90, of Summerville, GA (formerly of Roanoke, VA) died Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Alex Hosmer.

Mrs. McDowell was born June 17, 1923 in Schoolfield, VA, the daughter of the late Oscar Adrian Collins and Nancy Harriett Boyd Collins. She was a social worker and school teacher for the Indian River County Schools. Mrs. McDowell was a member of Lee Street Baptist Church, Danville, VA. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Joe McDowell; sister, Nell Thompson, special friend, Corky Hubbard; special cousin, Eddie Parrish; and other dear ones.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Lynn McDowell; daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Alex Hosmer; grandchildren, Jessica Fleming, Zoe McDowell, and Joseph McDowell; and one great grandchild, Elizabeth Cook.

Graveside and interment services for Mrs. McDowell will be held at 11:00 a. m. Saturday, January 25, 2014, at Macedonia Cemetery. Rev. Billy Dempsey will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be Kelsey Gary, Tia Hall, Lisa Hampton, and friends from Floyd Home Health.

Mrs. McDowell will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 10:00 a. m. until the service hour on Saturday.

Mr. Eugene Monroe Simpson Obit (M)

Mr. Eugene Monroe Simpson, age 85, of Summerville, GA, passed away Sunday January 19, 2014, in Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Simpson was born August 25, 1928 in Coosa, GA, the Livingston Community, the son of the late Marshall Monroe and Lettie Jackson Simpson.  He was a farmer and a retired truck driver.

Other than his parents he was preceded  in death by his wife, Carrie Ann Atkins Simpson, and a daughter, Nancy Warren.

Survivors include his Sons and Daughters-in-law, Larry and Carol Simpson, Quinn and Debbie Simpson, Victor and Lisa Simpson, Grandchildren, Ross Simpson, Samantha Wooten, Wesley Warren, Kristin Burrage, Great-grandchildren, Felix Warren, Anna Wooten.

Funeral service will be held 7:00p.m. Monday January 20, 2014, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel  with Rev. Clyde Hampton officiating with interment in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens, Rome, GA,  11:00 a.m. Tuesday,  January 21, 2014.  Active pallbearers, Shawn McCary, John Dawson, Dewayne  Dawson, Mike Dawson, Chad Barnes, Robert Moore, Willie Johnson, Dennis McCary.

Mr. Robert David “Bobby” Goodrich Obit (M)

Mr. Robert David “Bobby” Goodrich, age 75, of Trion, GA, passed away Thursday January 16, 2014, in Redmond Regional Hospital.

Mr. Goodrich was born November 2, 1938, in Menlo, GA  the son of the late James Samuel and Mary Hampton Goodrich.  He was a self-employed professional painter,

Other than his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Orbin Goodridge, Bill Goodridge, James Goodridge, sisters, Rubal Morgan, and Louvinia Langston.

Survivors include his sisters, Vera Helen Alexander, Sue Tucker and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service  will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday January 20, 2014, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mrs. Debbie L. Latta Obit (M)


Mrs. Debbie L. Latta, age 95, of Summerville, GA., passed away Friday, January 17, 2014 at the

Oak View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Latta was born in Cherokee County, Alabama

on May 13, 1918, daughter of the late Henry Owens and Ella E. McDaniel Owens. She was the

oldest living member of the Mountain View Baptist Church and prior to retirement, she along

with her husband, Herman O. Latta, owned and operated the Dari-King and Jim’s Drive-In.

In addition to her parents, and her husband, Mrs. Latta was preceded in death by a

son-in-law, Jimmy Mitchell. Mrs.Latta is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Charles

and Doris Latta; daughter, Peggy Latta Mitchell; grandchildren and their spouses, Jamie

and Tammy Mitchell, Jason Mitchell, Jon and Sherry Mitchell, Cherie and David Mauney,

and Kevin Latta(Margo Hatch); 15 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren and a

number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Latta will be held Monday, January 20, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. in

the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin J. Norton officiating. Interment will

follow in the Green Hills Memory Gardens.Grandchildren and Great grandchildren have been

Mr. Jerry Wayne Edwards Obit (M)

Mr. Jerry Wayne Edwards, 60, of Trion, GA died Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Edwards was born October 15, 1953 in LaFayette, GA, the son of Azilee Mathis Edwards and the late Albert Edwards. He was retired from Roper Corporation. Mr. Edwards was a member of Four Mile Baptist Church, the Parkinson’s Foundation, Hunting Club, and the Millionaire Gospel Singers. He was a supporter of the Trion Bulldogs, and the 1988-1998 Trion Band Boosters. Mr. Edwards was an avid Auburn Fan. Other than his father, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Jeff Chandler.

Survivors include his wife, Melody Austin Edwards; mother, Azilee Edwards; daughters and sons-in-law, Jerri Kaye and Robbie Turner, Hope and Danny Calaway; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ricky & Barbara Edwards, Steven and Dale Edwards, Andy and Michelle Edwards, Tim & Pam Edwards, Michael Edwards, and James & Holly Edwards; sister, Elizabeth Hughes; brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law, Ricky & Lynn Lanier, Verlon & Sandra Bethune, Frankie & Rowlinda Patterson, Karen Chandler; grandchildren, Kyra Calaway, Kaymin Calaway, Stephanie Turner, Justin Turner, Jerid Turner; nieces and nephews.

Mr. Dan Young Obit (ER)

MR. DAN YOUNG, age 79, (known as Deputy Dan) of Rose Circle, Trion, Georgia passed away Thursday evening at his residence. Born in Valley Head, AL. on November 27, 1934, He was a son of the late Floyd and Leona Clark Young. 
Mr. Young was a retired deputy from the Chattooga County Sherriff’s office. He was preceded in death by first wife, the late Annie Harris Young, siblings, the late Billy Young, the late Lorene Moore, the late Margaret Faye Young, and the late Charlotte Young.

Survivors include wife-Barbara E. Young; daughter-Angie Williamson of Trion; son-Allen Young of Douglasville; Step-children- Cindy Romines of Fort Oglethorpe; Sheryl Campbell of Summerville, Jan Allen and Robbie Allen both of Lyerly; sisters-Nancy Wilson, Frances Cordle both of Summerville, and Linda Pledger of Orlando, Fl.; brothers-Rev. Richie (Bo) Young of Jamaica and Budd Young of Summerville; nine grandchildren, eight Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews also survive. 

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, at 2:00 P.M. from the West Summerville Baptist Church with Rev. Allen Young, Rev. Lavon Humphrey, Rev. Kevin Woods and Rev. Bo Young officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Matt Williamson, Jarod Williamson, Micah Young, Jonathan Hudgins, Ricky Campbell and Robbie Allen. Mrs. Cherry B. Holder Obit (M)

Mrs. Cherry B. Holder, 69, of Summerville, GA died Thursday, January 16,
2014, at Oakview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
 
Mrs. Holder was born July 16, 1944, in Gordon County, GA. She was the
daughter of the late Clint Slaughter and Fannie Mae Tucker Slaughter.  Mrs.
Holder was a homemaker.  Other than her parents, she was preceded in
death by her husband, John Houston Holder; and a sister, Linda Hunter.
 
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy Marie and Randy
Pendergrass; brother, Sam Slaughter; sisters, Mary Jo Freeman, Juanita Ray,
and Shirley Ann Fuller; grandchildren, Jimmy Allen Myers, Justin Eugene Myers,
Sabrina Lynn Myers, and Joseph Hardy; great grandchildren, Natalie Bradley,
Jamie Mitchell, and Braylee Myers.
 
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Mason
Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby Brown officiating.  Burial will follow

Mr. James B. Strickland, JR., age 65, of Rome, GA, formerly of Lyerly, GA, passed away Wednesday January 15, 2014, in Etowah Landing, Rome, GA.

Mr. Strickland was born April 9, 1948, in Tallas, FL, the son of the late James B. (Ben) Strickland, SR, and Kathrine Sapp Strickland, He was a member of the Lyerly First Baptist Church, and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict.

Survivors include his children, Shayne A. Strickland, Lakewells, FL, Shannan Rossow, Lakeland, FL, 2 Grandchildren, Quintan Rossow, and Dawson Rossow.

Funeral services will be held 5:00 p.m. Saturday January 18, 2014, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Baird officiating.

Mrs. Flossie Mae Wooten Obit (M)

Mrs. Flossie Mae Wooten, age 88, of Summerville, GA, died Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at Floyd Medical Center.

Mrs. Wooten was born January 9, 1926, in Trion, GA, daughter of the late Charlie and Ora Mae Smith Ledford. She was of the Church of God faith, and prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Mabelline Company. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wooten.

Mrs. Wooten is survived by her son, Joe Wooten; daughters, Tammy McAlister, Debbie Gribble, and Diane Chambers; a brother, Frank Ledford; a sister, Winnie Chandler; 7 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Wooten will be held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, January 16, 2014, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Trotter officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Michael Ledford, Jack-Jack Ledford, Randy Ledford, Coleman Ledford, Gary Floyd, and Larry Brock.
