MR. DAN YOUNG, age 79, (known as Deputy Dan) of Rose Circle, Trion, Georgia passed away Thursday evening at his residence. Born in Valley Head, AL. on November 27, 1934, He was a son of the late Floyd and Leona Clark Young. 
Mr. Young was a retired deputy from the Chattooga County Sherriff’s office. He was preceded in death by first wife, the late Annie Harris Young, siblings, the late Billy Young, the late Lorene Moore, the late Margaret Faye Young, and the late Charlotte Young.

Survivors include wife-Barbara E. Young; daughter-Angie Williamson of Trion; son-Allen Young of Douglasville; Step-children- Cindy Romines of Fort Oglethorpe; Sheryl Campbell of Summerville, Jan Allen and Robbie Allen both of Lyerly; sisters-Nancy Wilson, Frances Cordle both of Summerville, and Linda Pledger of Orlando, Fl.; brothers-Rev. Richie (Bo) Young of Jamaica and Budd Young of Summerville; nine grandchildren, eight Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews also survive. 

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, at 2:00 P.M. from the West Summerville Baptist Church with Rev. Allen Young, Rev. Lavon Humphrey, Rev. Kevin Woods and Rev. Bo Young officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Matt Williamson, Jarod Williamson, Micah Young, Jonathan Hudgins, Ricky Campbell and Robbie Allen. Honorary Pallbearers will be all Law Enforcement personnel. Visitation will be Saturday from 6:00 till 8:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home.

Mr. James B. Strickland, JR., age 65, of Rome, GA, formerly of Lyerly, GA, passed away Wednesday January 15, 2014, in Etowah Landing, Rome, GA.

Mr. Strickland was born April 9, 1948, in Tallas, FL, the son of the late James B. (Ben) Strickland, SR, and Kathrine Sapp Strickland, He was a member of the Lyerly First Baptist Church, and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict.

Survivors include his children, Shayne A. Strickland, Lakewells, FL, Shannan Rossow, Lakeland, FL, 2 Grandchildren, Quintan Rossow, and Dawson Rossow.

Funeral services will be held 5:00 p.m. Saturday January 18, 2014, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Baird officiating.

Mrs. Flossie Mae Wooten, age 88, of Summerville, GA, died Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at Floyd Medical Center.

Mrs. Wooten was born January 9, 1926, in Trion, GA, daughter of the late Charlie and Ora Mae Smith Ledford. She was of the Church of God faith, and prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Mabelline Company. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wooten.

Mrs. Wooten is survived by her son, Joe Wooten; daughters, Tammy McAlister, Debbie Gribble, and Diane Chambers; a brother, Frank Ledford; a sister, Winnie Chandler; 7 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Wooten will be held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, January 16, 2014, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Trotter officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Michael Ledford, Jack-Jack Ledford, Randy Ledford, Coleman Ledford, Gary Floyd, and Larry Brock. Mr. Marvin Arzo Hughes, age 79, of Lyerly, GA, died Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at his residence.

Mr. Hughes was born March 5, 1934 in Centre, AL, the son of the late Arzo and Margaret Mann Hughes. He was a member of Berryton Baptist Church. Mr. Hughes was previously employed with Integrated Products. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, to whom he was married for 50 years, Mona Marbutt Hughes.

Mr. Hughes is survived by his wife, Judy Sorsdahl Hughes; daughter, Frances Hughes Turner; sons, William Hughes, M. D. Hughes, and Jimmy Hughes; sister, Betty Hughes; 11 Grandchildren; and 16 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Friday, January 17, 2014 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Mann and Rev. Mickey Skates officiating. Burial will follow in Lyerly Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Grandsons.

Infant Gavin Alexander Lopez, 6 days, died January 12, 2014 at Floyd Medical Center.

Gavin was born January 6, 2014 at Floyd County Hospital, the son of Alejandro Lopez and Mary Elizabeth Cochran.  He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Harold “Pee Wee” Cochran.

Survivors include his parents, Alejandro Lopez and Mary Cochran; sisters, April Cochran and Ma’Shayla Cochran; grandparents, Vickey Hobbs, Maria and Martian Lopez; aunts and uncles, Tonie Cochran, Harold Cochran, Abraham Lopez, Freddy Lopez. Sandra Lopez, Julia Lopez, Meliza Lopez, Gloria Lopez and Junior Lopez.

Miss. Dorothy June Poovey, age 85, of Lyerly, GA died Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Miss Poovey was born September 22, 1928 in Gaylesville, AL, the daughter of the late Carl Smith Poovey and June Little Poovey. Miss Poovey was a member of Sardis Baptist Church. She was retired from Parent Child Center.

Survivors include sisters, Mabel Poovey and Kathleen Poovey of Lyerly, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Cecil and Jane Poovey, Centre, AL; niece and nephew, Cecilia and Dion Hudson, and Mark Alan Poovey

Mr. Harold L. “Pee Wee” Cochran, age 57, of Trion, GA died Monday, January 13, 2014 at his residence.

Mr. Cochran was born April 26, 1956 in Trion, GA, the son of the late Leonard Cochran and Georgia Goodson Cochran. He was employed with Mt. Vernon Mills. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Gavin Cochran.

Survivors include a son, Harold Cochran, SR; daughters, Toni Cochran and Mary Cochran; brothers, Robert Cochran and Terry Cochran; sisters, Linda Hunt, Deborah Price, Angie Dooley, and Wanda Chaney; and grandchildren, April Cochran and Shayla Cochran.

Mr. Cochran will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 11:00 a. m. until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Mr. John Lewis Farley, age 69, of Summerville, GA died Sunday, January 12, 2014, at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Farley was born December 14, 1944 in Delbarton, West Virginia, the son of the late Ira Farley and Pearl Maynard Anderson. He was a carpenter and had worked at Roper Corporation. Mr. Farley was a member of the Summerville Pentecostal Worship Center. Other than his parents, Mr. Farley was preceded in death by his step-father, Alec Anderson; sister, Lahoma Vance; and brothers, Samuel Greenway Farley, and Charles Alex Anderson.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Lou Farley; son, Darold Dugger, Jon Farley, Jeffery Farley; daughters, Carol Ann Farley, Susan Bryson, Christina Pierce, Mary Rice, and Vera Rice; sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy and Mose Marcum, Ruby and Don Stevens, Sherry and Dan Graves, and Dollie Anderson; brothers and sister-in-law, John and Glynell Anderson, and Virgil Ray Anderson; 18 Grandchildren; and 15 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at the Summerville Pentecostal Worship Center, with Rev. Andy Hutchins officiating. Burial will follow in Subligna Cemetery. Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Baker, age 93, of Menlo, GA, died January 11, 2014, at the Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Baker was born October 29, 1920, in Gaylesville, AL, daughter of the late James Donald and Myrtle Bell Abernathy Espy.  She was a member of the Menlo First Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed at Best Manufacturing.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Jim” Baker; brothers, Emmett Espy, Joe Espy, Elbert Espy, Donald “Loy” Espy, and Wallace “Watt” Espy; sisters, Mildred Baker and Edna Roper.

Mrs. Baker is survived by her daughters and son-in-law; Barbara Ann and Fred Eller, Jimmie Sue Kirby; sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Tab Dempsey; grandchildren, Dee Anna Ward, Abby and Jerry Scott, Stacy and Pam Rinehart, and Kelly Kirby; 9 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Baker will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 14, 2014, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Dempsey and Rev. Tom Russell officiating.  Burial will follow in the AMI Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Stacy Rinehart, Kelly Kirby, Jerry Scott, Phillip Dempsey, Harrison Scott, and Justin Swords.

Mrs. Baker will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until the service hour on Tuesday.
