Mrs. Peggy Ruth Elsberry Obit (M)

Mrs. Peggy Ruth Elsberry, age 72, of Summerville, GA, died Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Elsberry was born September 4, 1941 in Chickamauga, GA, the daughter of the late James Kyler Lively and Margie Lee Purcell Lively. She was retired from Bigelow Sanford Carpet Factory. Mrs. Elsberry was a member of Berryton Baptist Church where she had served as a Sunday School Teacher. She had also previously served as a Sunday School and Bible Study Teacher at West Summerville Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Elsberry was preceded in death by her sisters, Edna Lee Lively, Annie Jo Courtney; brothers, Lewis Lively and Robert Clinton Lively; and a son-in-law, Delton Dixson.

Mrs. Elsberry is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Franklin Elsberry; daughter, Sharon Lynn Dixson; grandchildren, Jason Dixson, Kayla Dixson, and Alyse Edgeworth; great-grandchildren, Landon Dixson, Sammy Edgeworth, Ava Dixson, Maralynn Dixson, and Jayla Fletcher.

Funeral services for Mrs. Elsberry will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 9, 2013, from the Berryton Baptist Church with Rev. Mickey Skates, Rev. Tommy Seay, and Rev. Malcom Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Keith Courtney, Jason Dixson, Michael Duke, Wayne McArthur, Bobby Groce, and Jeff Ramsey.

Mrs. Elsberry will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Friday, November 8, 2013.

Mrs. Gwendola Johnson Obit (M)

Mrs. Gwendola Johnson, age 92, of Trion, GA, died Monday, November 4, 2013, at her residence.

 

Mrs. Johnson was born March 29, 1921, daughter of the late Joseph Wesley and Beulah Velma Smith White.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Lyerly United Methodist Church.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Cooper Johnson, and brothers, Gladston White and J. B. White.

 

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Rayburn and JoAnn Mitchell, Ron and Teri Johnson; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Phillip Smith; grandchildren, Fran and Daryl Buchanan; great-grandchildren, Gerren Buchanan, Sage Buchanan, Jordan and Crystle Buchanan; great-great-grandchildren, Shane Buchanan and Jacob Buchanan.

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Johnson will be held at 6:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 6, 2013, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Marshall Bryan officiating.  Burial will be in the Chattanooga National Cemetery

on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 11:30 AM.

Mrs. Rosemary McWhorter James Obit (ER)

MRS. ROSEMARY McWHORTER JAMES, age 89, of Virginia Drive-Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday morning in a local health care. Affectionately known as “Miss RoseMary”, she was born in Henrietta, N.C. to the late Grady and Lola Belle Bridges Morehead on November 9, 1923. She graduated from Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C. and taught school in Trion Elementary and Summerville Elementary Schools, and owned and operated Her own kindergarten for a number of years. Mrs. James was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and a board member of Chattooga Library; she was a member of Horizon Baptist Fellowship. Mrs. James was preceded in death by her first husband, the late Joseph Winston McWhorter and latter, husband the late Willis Samuel James, brothers-the late Jim Morehead, Joe Morehead, and Bill Morehead.

Surviving are sons-Joseph Winston (Wink) McWhorter, Jr. of Athens, Robert McWhorter of Summerville, and Hill (Jenny) McWhorter, Sr. of Hoover, AL.; brother-O. G. Morehead of Summerville; Six Grandchildren, Nine Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews.

not only her life, but the life of her daughter, Shaila McKenzie Rutledge, 
 
Miss Rutledge was born June 6, 1986 in Fort Oglethorpe, GA,

Lovett.  She was a member of Berryton Bible Mission.  She had
 
played softball and loved cheerleading.

Mr. Max Kellett Cox Obit (M)

Mr. Max Kellett Cox, age 81, of Summerville, GA, passed away Saturday November 2, 2013, in Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Cox was born January 29, 1932, in Berryton, GA, son of the late John R. and Eunice Kellett Cox. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy having served in the Korean Conflict. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a security guard with Bigelow-Sanford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, John Cox and Raymond “Tom” Cox.

Mr. Cox is survived by his brothers, Ben Cox, Joe Cox, and Roy Cox.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, November 4, 2013, from the Lyerly Cemetery with Rev. Waydell Howell officiating. Pallbearers will be nephews.

 Mr. Cox will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:30 P.M. Monday.

Mrs. Mary Ruth Henley Obit (M)

Mrs. Mary Ruth Henley, age 87, of Rome, GA, passed away Saturday November 2, 2013, in Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Henley was born September 13, 1926, in Rome, GA, daughter of the late Harlan L. and Amilea O. Tudor Evans.  Prior to her retirement, she worked as a supervisor with Dowling, and was a Past Matron with the Order of the Eastern Star.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Henley, step-mother, Eva Evans; and a brother, Bobby A. Evans.

Mrs. Henley is survived by her brother, Homer L. Evans; sisters, Frances Van Horn, Glenis Miller, Sue Bearden, JoAnn Anderson, and Faye Nelle Byrd; sisters-in-law, Ann Henley and Frances Evans; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and great great nephews; adopted family, Tom, Gail, Adrian, Abby, and Jeff Brown from Bloomington, IN.

Funeral services for Mrs. Henley will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 6, 2013, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mrs. Doris Ledford Obit (M)

 Mrs. Doris Jean Mahan Ledford, age 79, of Summerville, GA, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2013, at her residence.

Mrs. Ledford was born August 9, 1934, in Summerville, GA, daughter of the late Walter Blair and Catherine Rebecca Elsberry Mahan.  She was a member of the South Summerville Baptist Church, and prior to her retirement, was employed with the Chattooga County Board of Education as a Secretary with the North Summerville Elementary School.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Jack” Ledford, Jr., and a brother, Terry Mahan.

Mrs. Ledford is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Michael and Evette Ledford, Randy Ledford, and Jack Ledford; brothers, Bob Mahan and Jerry Mahan; grandchildren, Michelle Ledford Brown, Michael Ledford, Jr., and Chelseanne Ledford; and a great-grandchild, Kayli Brown.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ledford will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 5, 2013, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mr. Harlon Eugene Croy, 59, of Lyerly, GA died Thursday, October 31, 2013

at his residence.

 

Mr. Croy was born November 3, 1953 in Summerville, GA, the son of Ada

Kathrine Thompson Croy and the late Allen Lester Croy. He was previously

employed with Harriett and Henderson.  Mr. Croy was a member of West

Summerville Baptist Church.  Other than his father, he was preceded in

death by brothers, Alan Lester Croy, Sr, Otis Franklin Croy, Ray Lane Croy,

Richard Tony Croy, and Alan Lester Croy, JR; and a sister, Rosa Crider.

 

Survivors include his mother, Ada Kathrine McGuire; son, Jonathon Rosser;

daughters, Nancy Adams and Jeanette Laney; brothers, Tommy McGuire,

Billy McGuire, Jimmy Croy, Hershel Croy, Robert Croy, and Earl Croy; sisters,

Barbara Goss, Ethel Deberry, and Maggie Fox; and 8 Grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 3, 2013 at

Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Greg Ledford officiating.  Burial will
