Mr. Joe Hutchinson Phillips Obit (M)

Mr. Joe Hutchinson Phillips, age 99, of Summerville, GA, died Saturday, September 21, 2013, at Floyd Medical Center.

Mr. Phillips was born February 25, 1914, in Rome, GA, son of the late Jerry Samuel and Katie Henretta Mixon Phillips.  Prior to his retirement, he worked as a foreman with the Summerville Cotton Mill.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Johnson Phillips.

Mr. Phillips is survived by his son, Joe Phillips Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and Charles Frady; sister, Jewell Brown; grandchildren, Charles Michael Frady, Kenneth Duane Frady, LaVonna Dawn Frady, Philana Phillips, and Marcus Kane Phillips; 10 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Monday, September 23, 2013, from the Greenhills Memory Gardens with Dr. William Flannagan officiating.  Burial will follow in the family plot at Greenhills Memory Gardens.  Pallbearers will be Michael Frady, Ken Frady, Kane Phillips, Charles Frady, Nicholas Plant, and Nigel Plant.

Mr. Phillips will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on Monday.

Mrs. Julia (Judy) Hurley Obit (EP)

Mrs. Julia (Judy) Hurley, age 75 of 20 Trixie Lane, Summerville, GA 
passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Floyd Medical 
Center. Mrs. Hurley was born October 17, 1937 in Fort Payne, AL. 
She had previously worked as Secretary for Hurley's Supermarket 
and was a housewife. Mrs. Hurley was a faithful member of the 
Perennial Springs Baptist Church where she was a member of the 
Adult Bible Sunday School Class. Mrs. Hurley was preceded in death, 
by daughter, Pamela Hurley; son, David Hurley; grandson, Dylan 
Hurley; parents, W. H. Hartline and Edith Powell Hartline; and a 
brother, W. H. "Buddy" Hartline, Jr. Mrs. Hurley is survived by husband, 
Wayne Hurley; sisters, Elaine Coker and Dot (John) Shankles; brothers, 
Larry (Donna) Hartline and Dan (Peggy) Hartline; grandchildren, Ethan 
Brison and Madysen Hurley. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, 
September 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. from the Perennial Springs Baptist 
Church with Rev. Waydell Howell and Rev. Alton Stamey officiating. Music 
will be by Patty Pledger. Interment will follow in the Perennial Springs 
Cemetery. Visitation for Mrs. Julia (Judy) Hurley will be Friday, September

Mrs. Frances Tudor Cargle Obit (ER)

MRS. FRANCES TUDOR. CARGLE, age 84, of Dry Creek Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday morning at her residence. She was born in Dry Creek Community to the late Edward Reece and Mamie Louise Elsberry Tudor on October 4, 1928. Mrs. Cargle was a member of the Fisher’s Chapel United Methodist Church, and was preceded in death by her husband , the late Houston Cargle, Jr. on February 1, 1996,granddaughter the late Kimberly Cargle, sister-the late Mildred Smith McGuire, brother-the late J.W. “Jake” Tudor, and brother-in-law-the late Fred Townsell. Surviving are, sons and spouses-Ronnie and Sarah Cargle and Jeff and Paula Cargle; granddaughter-Suzanne Bailey, great granddaughter-Lexie Bailey; sisters and brother-in-law-Winona and Billy Hughes all of Summerville and Rebecca Townsell of Fort Oglethorpe; several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 20th, at 11:00 A.M. from the Fisher’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverends David Autry, Jerry Wolfe, and Art Graves officiating, interment in the Church Cemetery. Mrs. Frances E. Cargle Obit (ER)

MRS. FRANCES E. CARGLE, age 84, of Dry Creek Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday morning at her residence. Born on October 4, 1928, She was a member of the Fisher’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Mrs. Cargle	 was preceded in death by her husband , the late Houston Cargle, Jr. on February 1, 1996 and granddaughter the late Kimberly Cargle.

Surviving are, sons-Ronnie Harold Cargle and Jeff Wayne Cargle both of Summerville; Granddaughter, Great Granddaughter, and Sister also survive.

Mr. Harold Robert Price Obit (FTPC)

Harold Robert Price, age 84 of Rome passed away Friday evening, September 13, 2013 in a Rome hospital.
 
A native of Trion, Georgia, Harold was born on October 4, 1928, the first of 3 children of
the late Gordon Henry Price and the late Alice Mae Woods Price. He was a 1946 graduate
of Trion High School and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1946 until 1948
having been honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1948. Harold was associated with
Riegel Textile Corporation from 1948 thru 1956 and prior to his retirement in 1992, he was
associated with General Electric for 35 years.
 
Harold was a longtime active member of Fellowship Baptist Church of Rome where he served as a Deacon and Chairman of Deacons. Harold was a member of the N.R.A., the Jake Puryear Det. 1020 of Rome and the Marine Corps League. Harold was preceded in death by a son, Brian Keith Price and a granddaughter, Kaylyn Nicole Price. Mr. Price was married in 1952 to Foye Lee
Bloodworth Price who preceded him in death on September 10, 2004. Harold and Foye’s
marriage was solid and love controlled despite the sorrow of losing a son and a
granddaughter.
 
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Linda Price of Stockbridge, GA.; a
grandson, Kyle Robert Price and his wife, Brittney of McDonough, GA.; 2 greatgrandchildren,
Kyrstin and Hunter.
 
Funeral service for Harold Robert Price will be held this (Tuesday) afternoon, September
17, 2013 at 3 o’clock at the Fellowship Baptist Church of Rome with Dr. Dale Levan and
Dr. Bob Claytor officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of Oaknoll Memorial
Gardens with Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.
The body will lie-in-state at the Fellowship Baptist Church, 314 Burnett Ferry, Rome
Georgia, this (Tuesday) afternoon, September 17, 2013 from 1 until 3 o’clock where the
family will receive friends.
 
The following will serve as active pallbearers, Jim Adams, Randy Hardin, Tom Medlock,
Alan Pickard, Kyle Price and Bill Price.

Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth B. Young Obit (EP)

Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth B. Young, age 95 of Shinbone Valley Road, Menlo, GA passed away Sunday, September 8, 2013 at her residence.  Mrs. Young was retired after 30 years with the Department of Family and Children Services.  She was member and elder of the Menlo Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School for 54 years. 

Mrs. Young was preceded in death by her husband, William B. Young; and her father and mother, Claude Seaborn and Luna Hall Baker.

Mrs. Young is survived by daughter, Margaret Young Saye and her husband William of Athens, GA; son, Blanding B. Young, Sr and his wife Rebekah of Menlo, GA; grandsons, Bill and his wife Catherine Saye of Gainesville, GA, R. Blanding Saye of Menlo, GA, Blanding B. Young, Jr. of Menlo, GA, and Tipton and his wife,  Becky Young of Menlo, GA; granddaughters, Libby and her husband, Kevin Jackson of Savannah, GA, Ellen and her husband, Clay Carter of Bogart, GA, Claudia and her husband, Wes Maddux of Menlo, GA, and Gloria Love of Blakely, GA; 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth B. Young will be conducted Monday, September 9, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. from Menlo Presbyterian Church with Dr. Roger Kvam officiating.  The interment will be private. 

There will be no visitation.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.  Honorary Pallbearers will be all members of the Menlo Presbyterian Church.  

Mrs. Thelma Starkey Obit (M)

Mrs. Thelma Starkey, age 84, of Trion, GA died Sunday, September 8, 2013 at her home.

Mrs. Starkey was born February 12, 1929 in LaFayette, GA, the daughter of the late Oliver Franklin Chandler and Bertha Ellen Waters Chandler. She attended Trion United Methodist Church. She was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills, where she worked in customer service. Mrs. Starkey was active in starting the Riegel Textile Credit Association which later became known as Southeast Federal Credit Union. Other than her parents, Mrs. Starkey was preceded in death by a brother, Allen Chandler.

Survivors include her husband, David H. Starkey; son and daughter-in-law, David R. and Daline Starkey; daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Steve Adams and Phyllis and Bo Bowden; 8 Grandchildren; and 7 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a. m. Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Autry officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jim Bowers, Robbie Adams, Chris Adams, Devin Starkey, Kendall Coffman, Dason Starkey, Shawn Bowden, Don Glass, and Larry Starkey. Honorary pallbearers will be our “McDonald’s” family.

Mr. Edward Clay Henry Obit (M)

Mr. Edward Clay Henry, age 85, of Rossville, GA, passed away Friday, September 6, 2013, at his residence.

Mr. Henry was born July 6, 1928, in Whitwell, TN, son of the late Clay Evans and Eva Henry. Prior to his retirement, he was employed with Modern Maid in Chattanooga, TN.

Mr. Henry is survived by his wife, Bobbie Ash Henry; sons and daughters-in-law, Edward C. Jr. and Terri Henry, Taylor E. and Earlene Henry, David M. and Darlene Henry, Jim Henry; sisters, Edna Eggert and Novella Boyd; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, September 8, 2013, at the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clyde Painter officiating.  Burial will follow in the Garrett Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Mrs. Mary Irene Teems Obit (M)

Mrs. Mary Irene Teems, 85, of Summerville, GA passed away Tuesday, September 03, 2013  after a brief illness.

 Mrs. Teems was born September 14, 1927 in Robinsville, NC, the daughter of the late Terrell E. Dyer and Callie L. Milsap Dyer.  She was a member of Berryton Baptist Church. She was formerly employed with Georgia Glove and was a van driver for Look Out Mountain Services.   Mrs. Teems

was  preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Ervin Teems.

 Survivors include a son, Terry Teems and his wife, Melanie Teems; daughters, Carol Rhinehart and her husband, Steve Rhinehart, Kathy Gentry and her husband, Johnny Gentry; brother, T. E. Dyer; sisters, Effie Brooks and Hazel Hall; grandchildren, Rodney Yarbrough, Tony Hughes, Keitha Zuniga, Karen Adams, Blake Gentry, Austyn Gentry and Taeler Teems; great grandchildren, Zachary Hughes, McKenzie Hughes, Jacob Zuniga, Kendal Zuniga, Noah Gentry, Lucas Adams, Katie Price, Justin Yarbrough, and Dawson Yarbrough.

 Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p. m. Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Berryton Baptist Church with Rev. David Pettyjohn and Rev. Mr. Jimmy Wayne Mobbs, age 59, of Gaylesville, AL, passed away Saturday August 31, 2013, He was born January 15, 1954, in Rome, GA, the son of Josie Battles Mobbs, and the late Richard Mobbs.  He was employed with Florida Rock  and preceded in death by his wife Shelia Diane McDonald Mobbs.

Survivors include his children, Kimberly Lee and Michael Mobbs, mother, Josie F. Mobbs, bothers, Jackie Mobbs, Marvin “Tuck” Mobbs, grandchildren, Jessica Wise, Emarie Lee, Kasi Lee, D.J. Lee.

Funeral service will be held 3:30 p.m. EST time Tuesday September 3, 2013 from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with interment in the Weiss Lake Memorial Garden.  Active pallbearers, B.J.
