Mrs. April Renee Porter, age 36, of Summerville, GA, passed away Saturday October 12, 2013 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Porter was born February 15, 1977, in Werzberg Germany, the daughter of Jimmy Blalock and Ann Lovell Hawkins, she was formerly employed with Dollar General Store.

Survivors include her husband, Billy LaDon Porter, daughter, Ashley Nicole Porter, son, Baylee Cole Porter, father, Jimmy Blalock, mother and step-father, Ann and Curtis Hawkins, sister and brother-in-law, Angie and Caleb Case.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday October 15, 2013 from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Barry Peppers officiating with interment in the Lyerly Cemetery. Active pallbearers, Jayson Quarles, Cody Cromer, Caleb Case, Gary Lovell, Gabriel Illa, David Williams. Honorary pallbearers, Hays C.E.R.T. Team.

Mrs. Porter will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 12:00 noon Tuesday until the service hour.

Mr. Gordon Clyde Lee, age 80, of Trion, GA, died Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at his residence.

Mr. Lee was born August 1, 1933, in Trion, GA, son of the late Raymond Eugene and Mary L. Brock Lee. He was a member of the Ridgeway Baptist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean Conflict. Prior to his retirement, he was employed with Roper. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lee was preceded in death by his sisters, Irene Bruce and Betty Minatree; and brothers, Wayne Lee and Ernest Lee; grandson-in-law, Shaun Bartlett.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda Littlejohn Lee; daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Allen Hughes; grandchildren, Andy and Andrea Lee, Amanda Bartlett and Jonathan Nelson; great-grandchildren, Austin Lee, Allie Lee, and C. J. Bartlett; brother, John Robert Lee; sisters, Brenda Conrad, Nell Brown, and Pat Sizemore;.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, October 10, 2013, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Todd Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Littlejohn Cemetery at Ridgeway. Pallbearers will be Andy Tudor, Scotty Russell, Harold Bruster, Jeff Lee, Chad Houge, and Robbie Dover.

Mr. Lee will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service on Thursday.

Rev. John David Gill, age 71, of LaFayette, GA died Monday, October 7, 2013 at his residence.

Rev. Gill was born May 5, 1942 in Summerville, GA, the son of the late Jess Gill and Emma Ponder Gill. Rev. Gill was a member of Faith Worship Center. He was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Vietnam. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, J. D. Gill, Melvin Gill, and Lester Gill.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Gill; daughters and sons-in-law, Becky and Kenny Clark and Gina and Eric Hurley; sisters, Louise Kinsey and Ester Saber; grandchildren, Joshua Smallan, Chelsey Smallan, and Lance Corp. Joseph Smallen; step-grandchildren, Katie Clark, Nathan Clark, Zach Clark, and Erica Hurley; step great grandchild, Lawson Sain; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Russell Swafford and Rev. Ricky Clark officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery with graveside rites conducted by Bro. Max Reed. Active pallbearers will be Kenny Clark, Joshua Smallan, Danny Galloway, Max Reed, Doug Gill, and Donnie Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Nieces, Nephews, and Employees of SolAmor Hospice.

MRS. KATHLEEN CAVIN, age 82, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Tuesday evening in the local nursing home. A native of Alabama, She was born to the late Houston Henry and Tressie Truss Smith on May 16, 1931. She was a member of Summerville First Baptist Church and the Dorcas Sunday School Class of the Church. Mrs. Cavin was retired from retail sales and was preceded in death by husband, the late William Alvin Cavin.

Survivors include daughter-Anne (Henry) Moxley of Griffin; son-Phil (Beth) Cavin of Summerville; brother-in-law-Joe Smith; grandchildren-Allison Walters, Elizabeth Walters Wheeler, Paul Cavin, and Rachel Cavin Witt; four Great Grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be Held Saturday, October 12th, at 2:00 P.M. from the Summerville First Baptist Church with Dr. Jerry Mahan officiating, interment in Alpine Cemetery. Mr. Aubrey L. Hardeman, age 96, of Cloudland, GA, passed away Tuesday morning, Oct. 1, 2013, in the local Nursing Home. A son of the late Luther and Laura Head Hardeman, he was born June 12, 1917 in Gadsden, Alabama and was a member and Elder of the Menlo Presbyterian Church. Mr. Hardeman was retired from Wolverine Worldwide and a Veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Army Signal Core. He was preceded in death by his wife, the late Bonnie Cavin Hardeman, on November 30, 2000. 

Surviving are Granddaughters: Vickie Balliet and Laura Cleckner both of Chesapeake, VA; Grandsons: Markham Tate of Cary, N.C., Aubrey Purcell of Greensboro, GA. and Gordon Yarbrough, Jr. of Cloudland, Step-daughter June Yarbrough of Summerville. Eight Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 5th, at 12:00 noon from the Menlo Presbyterian Church with Rev. Billy Dempsey and Rev. Greg Ludy officiating, interment in Alpine Cemetery. Mr. Aubrey Clinton (Smitty) Smith, age 64, of Gaylesville, AL, passed away Saturday September 28, 2013 at his residence.

Mr. Smith was born December 13, 1948, in Conyers, GA, the son of Louise Kitchens Smith and the late Ervin Smith. Mr. Smith was employed in 2009 with Chattooga County as Chattooga County Animal Control Officer. He was a farm manager, a former Chattooga County Deputy, and had also worked with the Trion Police Department.

Survivors include his wife, Gina Cooper Smith, mother, Louise Smith, Conyers, GA, daughters, Tiffany Smith, Tucson, AZ, Tanya Smith, Summerville, GA, step-daughter, Stephanie Williams, Hendersonville, TN, grandchildren, Scarlett Williams, Hope Smith, Oran Smith, brothers, Anthony Smith, Larry Smith, Conyers, GA.

MISS PAESLEI HOPE WHITMIRE, age one month, passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2013, afternoon in a Decatur, Georgia hospital. She was born in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia on August 21, 2013, infant daughter of Sasha Carr and Jeff Whitmire of Summerville; other survivors include paternal grandparents-Tina and Randall Evett of Chattanooga; maternal grandmother-Veronica Pickard of Hartwell; maternal great grandparents-Delmar and Renee Carr of Boaz, AL.; great grandparents-Teresa Barnes of Summerville and Tevis Carr of Dawson, AL.; sister-Kaelei Whitmire; brother-Jaidyn Whitmire both of Summerville; several Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins also survive. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 A.M. from the J. D. MRS. ELLA ELIZABETH KING ABNEY, age 92, of Rome, Georgia formerly of Summerville, passed away Thursday morning in Rome. A native of Menlo, Georgia, She was born to the late James Edgar and Minnie McWhorter King on October 15, 1920. Mrs. Abney was a member of Summerville First Baptist Church, retired social worker for the Chattooga County DFCS after 36 years of service, and was preceded in death by her husband, the late James Dwight Abney and brothers-the late Robert Willaim King,  James King and the late Paul King, Sr..

Surviving are Her son and spouse, James King and Charlene Abney of Rome; grandsons-Robert Kelly Abney and Jesse Aaron Abney; step grandson & spouse-Christopher and Patricia Watson; 1 Great Granddaughter; 3 Step Great Grandchildren; 1 Step Great Great Grandchild; several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 P.M. from the Family plot in Summerville Cemetery with Rev. Scott Lambert officiating. Phyllis Teresa Styles, age 64 of Crandall, GA formerly of Trion, GA passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013 at her residence.  Phyllis was born in Trion, GA on March 6, 1949.  She had worked as Parts Manager with International Trucking.  She was a member of the Trion United Methodist Church.    

    Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, James D. Styles, Sr. and Mary Esther Cline Styles.   Phyllis is survived by her brother, James D. Styles, Jr. and sister, Sherry Ann Styles Jenkins; nieces, nephews, and cousins.    

    Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. from the Chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Waydell Howell officiating.  Inurnment will be in West Hill Cemetery.
