Mrs. Thelma Starkey, age 84, of Trion, GA died Sunday, September 8, 2013 at her home.

Mrs. Starkey was born February 12, 1929 in LaFayette, GA, the daughter of the late Oliver Franklin Chandler and Bertha Ellen Waters Chandler. She attended Trion United Methodist Church. She was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills, where she worked in customer service. Mrs. Starkey was active in starting the Riegel Textile Credit Association which later became known as Southeast Federal Credit Union. Other than her parents, Mrs. Starkey was preceded in death by a brother, Allen Chandler.

Survivors include her husband, David H. Starkey; son and daughter-in-law, David R. and Daline Starkey; daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Steve Adams and Phyllis and Bo Bowden; 8 Grandchildren; and 7 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a. m. Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Autry officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jim Bowers, Robbie Adams, Chris Adams, Devin Starkey, Kendall Coffman, Dason Starkey, Shawn Bowden, Don Glass, and Larry Starkey. Honorary pallbearers will be our “McDonald’s” family.

Mr. Edward Clay Henry, age 85, of Rossville, GA, passed away Friday, September 6, 2013, at his residence.

Mr. Henry was born July 6, 1928, in Whitwell, TN, son of the late Clay Evans and Eva Henry. Prior to his retirement, he was employed with Modern Maid in Chattanooga, TN.

Mr. Henry is survived by his wife, Bobbie Ash Henry; sons and daughters-in-law, Edward C. Jr. and Terri Henry, Taylor E. and Earlene Henry, David M. and Darlene Henry, Jim Henry; sisters, Edna Eggert and Novella Boyd; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, September 8, 2013, at the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clyde Painter officiating.  Burial will follow in the Garrett Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Mr. Henry will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Saturday.

MRS. JACQUELINE POLLARD STRICKLAND, age 75, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday morning, August 30, 2013, in the local nursing home. Born in Summerville, Georgia on October 10, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Roy David and Emma Belle Ashworth Pollard. Mrs. Strickland was a member of the West Summerville Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons-Steven Strickland of Marietta, David Strickland of Woodstock, and Jeffery Strickland of Summerville; sister-Maribelle Wade of Newman; several Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 2nd, at 2:00 P.M. from the West Summerville Baptist Church, with Rev. Lavon Humphrey and Rev. William Harris officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Active Pallbearers Steven Strickland, David , Jeffery, Lucas, Hayden, Taylor, Andrew Hubbard, Stanley Pierce, Robert Luallen, Joseph Bachelor, Jon Atteberry. Mr. Charles Mitchell Hines, age 80, of Summerville, GA, died Thursday, August 29, 2013, at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Mr. Hines was born January 26, 1933 in Trion, GA, son of the late Charles Emmett and Maybell Hale Hines.  He was Baptist by faith, and prior to retirement, was employed with Brooms and Son Ice Company.  Mr. Hines was also a veteran of the United States Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Battles; and sisters, Mary Nell Mull and Margaret Hawkins.

Mr. Hines is survived by his wife, Pauline Estelle Hines; son, Randell Hines; daughter, Peggy Lynn Hines; sisters, Barbara Farrow and Betty Stoner; half sister, Ella Jean Allen; half brother, Ronnie Luther Pettyjohn; and 5 grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Hines will be held at 3:30 P.M. Saturday, August 31, 2013, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Wilborn officiating.  Burial will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be nephews.

Mrs. Virginia Emma Dolquery, age 80, of Summerville, GA, formerly of Terre Haute, IN went home to her Lord Sunday, August 25, 2013 in Chattanooga, TN.

Mrs. Dolquery was born March 15, 1933 in Summerville, GA, the daughter of the

late George Lindsey Elsberry and Maggie Lou McArthur Elsberry.  She was retired

from Wal-Mart.  Mrs. Dolquery was a member of South Summerville Baptist Church.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Mickey Allen Dolquery; brothers, Ausbun “Charles” Elsberry, Otis Carmon “Bud” Elsberry, George  William “Bill” Elsberry; sister, Mary Lou Browning; maternal grandparents, Ausbun

John and Emma Viola White McArthur; paternal grandparents, Benjamin and Emma Freeman Elsberry.

Virginia had varied and numereous interests.  She was skilled with crafts, such as

knitting, crochet and macrame.  She made Christmas decorations and had even taken

a course in ceramics.  Virginia was an avid bowler and won several trophies in Terre Haute bowling leagues.  She also played Euchre in a card club.  She cared for her indoor plants.  She loved spending time with her daughters and grandchildren going

sightseeing, eating out, and playing board games.

Survivors include daughters and husbands, Terri and Randy Bowman, of Terre Haute, IN, Sheila and Luke “Buddy” Warren, Summerville, GA; 3 grandsons, Luke Warren, Atlanta, GA, Brook Warren, Santa Clarita, CA, Nicholas “Nick” Bowman, Terre Haute, IN, 1 granddaughter, Karen Van Cura and husband, Richard “Rich” Van Cura, Countryside, IL; 2 great grandsons, Cole Van Cura and Xander Van Cura, Countryside, IL; 2 great granddaughters, Brinnley Bauer and Lorelai Bowman, Terre Haute, IN; 3 Nieces; 3 Nephews; and several great nieces and great nephews.

Mr. Austin Maynard, age 73, of Summerville, GA died Monday, August 26, 2013,at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Maynard was born June 20, 1940 in Cherokee County, AL, the son of the late Gibson “Gib” Maynard and Jewel Minnie Deering Maynard.  He was a truck driver for Golden Star Carpet Mill.  Mr. Maynard was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church.  He was a veteran of the United States National Guard.  Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Maynard; and a sister, Leta Pickle.

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-laws, Tammy R. and David Cordle,Austina L. Nichols, and Charlotte and Steve Drummond; sisters, Nadine Espy, Brenda Hughes, Debbie Cooper, Alice Ballinger, Sandra Corbin, and Melinda Floyd; brother, Thomas Eugene Maynard; grandchildren, Matthew Cordle, Bethany Cordle, Cherish Beard, Jonathon Beard, Kyle Nichols, and Nikki Dillard.
