Mrs. Pat Nations Eden, age 47, of Gaylesville, AL, passed away in the wee hours of Thursday, August 22nd, 2013, after a long, hard battle with a very aggressive form of breast cancer.  She was surrounded by her beloved husband and family.

Mrs. Eden was born October 26, 1965 in Fort Oglethorpe, GA, daughter of Hoyt Paul Nations, Sr. and Dallas Faye Kennedy Wofford.  She was a member of the Sonrise Community Church and was employed with Mohawk Industries.  Mrs. Eden was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrance Paul Nations.

Survivors include her husband, Josh Eden; sons, Brandon Carlton and T. J. Campbell; daughters, Brittany Smith and Krystal Campbell; mother, Dallas Faye Kennedy Wofford; father, Hoyt Paul Nations, Sr.; brother, Hoyt Paul Nations, Jr.; sisters, Paulla Nations and Christy Hilburn; 6 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Rick DeBerry.

Funeral services for Mrs. Eden will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 25, 2013, from the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Mr. Arthur Max Tucker, age 95, of Jamestown, Al, passed away Wednesday August 21, 2013 at his residence.

Mr. Tucker was born August 2, 1918, in Jamestown, AL, the son of the late Joe Issac and Lula Ann Burgess Tucker.  He was formerly employed at Riegel Textile, E. T Barwick Carpet Factory and Best Manufacturing.  Mr. Tucker was a veteran of WWII, having served in the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his wife. Luna Mae “Teet” Bentley Tucker; sisters, Carrie Tucker, Lena Mae Mason; brothers, Luther Tucker, Frank “Jack” Tucker, Elbert “Bert” Tucker, and Roy Tucker.

Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-laws, Leon and Janice Tucker, Jimmy and Judy Tucker, Roger Tucker; 8 Grandchildren; 7 Great Grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Clytie Sue Cox, age 74, of Summerville, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at her residence.

Mrs. Cox was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on January 16, 1939, daughter of the late Lyvoice Woodrow McDaniel and Lena Mae Stepp McDaniel Fortner.  She was a member of the Horizon Baptist Fellowship and was retired from the Westwood School District where she worked in the Cafeteria for over 25 years.  Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Wade Cox; an infant son, John David Cox; and her step-father, Woodrow Wilson Fortner.

Mrs. Cox is survived by her sons, Roger Stephen Cox, Michael Wade Cox, and Thomas Ray Cox all of Summerville; brother, Woodrow Wilson Fortner, II of Scottsburg, Indiana; sister, Donna Faye Griego of Livermore, CA; grandchildren, Andrew Cox, Courtney Cox, Alexandra Cox, Aaron Cox, Bryan Cox, Michaela Cox, Kyle Miller, Riley Miller, Casey Miller, Kevin Bradley, Timothy Bradley, Alex Haffly and Nick Maciel; great grandchildren, Kylie Bradley and Chase Wade Ploesh.

Mrs. Mary Ellen Broome, age 86 of Thomas Road, Trion, GA passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at her residence.  Mrs. Broome was born February 7, 1927 in Atlanta, GA.  She was retired as a Teacher of the Trion Elementary School and a member of the Trion First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Broome was preceded in death by her husband, J. L. Broome; father and mother, T. Fred and Lottie Doster Thomas; and a grandson, Jess Rives.

Mrs. Broome is survived by daughter, Sarah Ellen Rives of Milledgeville, GA; son, Lawrence and his wife Kaye Broome of Summerville, GA; granddaughter, Saralyn Rives of Milledgeville, GA; grandson, John and his wife Becky Broome of Atlanta, GA; granddaughter, Lauren and her husband C. J. Cady of Adairsville, GA; and great-grandson, Jess Woods of Milledgeville, GA. Special friends, Renda Byrd, Tammy Massey and Coleen Silvey.

Graveside and Interment services will be held, Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. from the West Hill Cemetery with Minister Brad Hayes officiating.

Mrs. Nancy Carrol Bailey, age 82, of Cordova, TN, died Sunday, August 18, 2013, at Baptist East Memorial Hospital in Memphis, TN.

Mrs. Bailey was born June 13, 1931, in Round Mountain, AL, daughter of the late Wilford Leroy and Bessie Mildred Keever Daniel.  Although Nancy did not graduate from high school, she became an accomplished bookkeeper.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Paul Bailey.

Survivors include her daughters, Paulette Flanagan and Deborah Padgett; grandchildren, Paul R. Flanagan and Danny L. Maddox; great-grandchildren, Bailey S. Flanagan, Brady F. Maddox, Breckyn Maddox, Carrisa Benton, and Sydney Crawford; niece, Mitzi Tomlin; and nephews, Steve Day and Mike Day.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday August 21, 2013 from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with private interment in the Greenhills Memory Gardens.

Robin Scott Morris, JR, age 12, of Summerville, GA died Saturday, August 17,

2013 at his residence.

Robin was born June 5, 2001 in Boaz, AL, the son of Robin Scott Morris, Sr.

and Anglia Darlene Touchet Morris.  Robin was preceded in death by his

grandparents, Michael James Touchet and William “Bill” Morris.

Survivors include his parents, Robin, SR and Anglia Morris; brother, Jordan

Donovan Morris; sisters, Jessica Anglia Morris and Zanta “ B J” Morris; step-brothers, Matthew Nabity and Joshua Scott Morris; step-sister, Dakota Ann Nabity;

Mr. Horace David Hunter, age 91, of Summerville, GA died Monday, August 19, 2013 2013 at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Hunter was born July 10, 1922 in Summerville, GA the son of the late Sam

Hunter and Azor Mason Hunter.  He was retired from Summerville Cotton Mill.

Mr. Hunter was a member of Pennville Church of Christ.  Other than his parents,

he was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace Hix Hunter; second wife, Wilma

Lively Hunter; son, David Hunter; step-son, Jackie Lively; sisters, Annie Mae Ingram,

Lucille Rich, Bessie Butler, Margaret Hunter, Geneva Blackmon, Roberta Fowler and Ruby Ledford; brothers, Fred Hunter, J. D. Hunter, Sam W. Hunter, Carl Hunter, and Oscar Hunter.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Brenda Hunter, Larry and

   Mrs. Alma Ruth Abernathy, age 80 of Summerville, GA passed away Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Oakview Nursing and Rehab Center.  Mrs. Abernathy was born December 27, 1932 in Durant, Oklahoma.  She was the first nurse employed at the Summerville Hospital where she was an L.P.N. for 42 years.  Mrs. Abernathy was a member of the Summerville Church of God. 

   Mrs. Abernathy was preceded in death by husband, William Clinton Abernathy; daughter, Pamela Suzanne Abernathy; father and mother, John Franklin Scoggins and Pearl Mae West Scoggins; and sisters, Mary  Scoggins and Ida Barton.

   Mrs. Abernathy is survived by son, Frankie Abernathy of Summerville, GA; granddaughters, April and her husband, Daniel Ash of Centre, AL and Melissa and her husband, Aaron Simpson of Trion, GA; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Annie Hale of Summerville, GA; spiritual daughters, Brenda Coffey of Rock Springs, GA and Elaine Webb of Fairfield, Idaho; several nieces and nephews.

Thelma Ruth Cooper Sprayberry, 93, of 55 Stockade Road (formerly of Allen Street), Summerville, Ga., passed away on Aug. 16, 2013.

A native of Summerville, Mrs. Sprayberry was born on July 1, 1920, the only child of Charles Obed Cooper and Annie Lee Bridges Cooper. She was preceded in death by her husband, Julius Edward Sprayberry, in 1989, and her elder son, Charles Edward (Eddy) Sprayberry, in 2012.

She is survived by her son Phillip Kent Sprayberry of Clifton, N.J.; her daughter-in-law, Melinda Graham Sprayberry of Decatur, Ala.; several cousins, nieces and nephews, great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews; and many friends.

Mrs. Sprayberry was born in a house on Montgomery Street in South Summerville. She graduated from Summerville High School in 1937 and spoke fondly of playing on the girls’ basketball team. 

She was married to Julius Edward Sprayberry of Hall’s Valley on Sept. 7, 1941, in Walker County, and the couple built a house on Allen Street in the Bellah subdivision, where she lived for 70 years. She lived her entire life in Summerville except for two years in Boise, Idaho, where her husband was stationed during World War II. 

In the late 1930s and much of the 1940s, Mrs. Sprayberry was a certified beautician at Perry’s Beauty Shop, Myrtle’s Beauty Shop, Turner’s Beauty Shop and in Boise, but she chose to stay home when the couple had children. She was an active and faithful member of the Church of Christ and attended the South Commerce Street congregation since it was formed in 1941.

Mrs. Sprayberry was a loving, caring lady whose most fulfilling work took place in and around the home, where she was concerned with the needs of her family and others. She was also a caregiver to numerous ladies at church and in the community. She was especially known for her baking, sewing and love of flowers. Through the years, she won many ribbons at the Chattooga County Fair in needlecrafts, baking and ceramics. Hers was a life of service: to her God, her family, her church and those in need. Even after moving into assisted living at the Suites at Oakview, she continued to send greeting cards, as she was able, to recognize birthdays and to cheer those who were ill and comfort those who had lost loved ones.

A graveside service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, at Green Hills Memory Gardens with Ken Parker and Edwin Parks officiating. Earle Rainwater Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Honorary pallbearers will be men from the South Commerce Street Church of Christ. Active pallbearers will be Tony Johnson, Earl Kinsey, Frank Sentell, Wilburn Shepherd, Benny Sprayberry and Neal Warren.

Visitation will be Monday evening at Earle Rainwater Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m.

   Mr. Nicklos Jethro Pettyjohn, Jr. age 91 of Summerville, GA passed away Friday, August 16, 2013 at his residence.  Mr. Pettyjohn was born on March 10, 1922 in Walker County, GA.

He was retired from Riegel Textile Corporation and was a member of the Pennville Church of Christ.  Mr. Pettyjohn was a Veteran of the United States Army.

   Mr. Pettyjohn was preceded in death by his father and mother, Nicklos Jethro Pettyjohn, Sr. and Julie Jones Pettyjohn; sisters, Annie Rape, Lula Ford, Lou Margie Dawson, Almeda Pettyjohn, and Gussie Stansell; and brothers, Earl Pettyjohn and Lewis Pettyjohn.

   Mr. Pettyjohn is survived by his wife, Frances E. Vineyard Pettyjohn of Summerville, GA; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

   Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, August 18, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. from the Pennville Church of Christ with Minister Frank Ford and Noey Vineyard officiating.  Interment will follow in Macedonia Cemetery.
