Mr. Alvin Earl “Bud” Smart

Mr. Alvin Earl “Bud” Smart, age 68, of Gaylesville, AL died Wednesday, July 17,

2013 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

 

Mr. Smart was born February 22, 1945 in Jamestown, AL, the son of the late

Buford Smart and Myrtle Messer Smart.  He was a retired truck driver.  Mr. Smart

was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church.  Other than his parents, he was

preceded in death by a brother, Rayford Smart; and sisters, Debbie Smart and Joyce Ellis.

 

Survivors include his daughter, Annette Reynolds; brother, Gary Smart; sisters and

brother-in-law, Angie Mitchell, Barbara and Dow Van Pelt, and Marilyn Gelgut;

grandchildren, Jacob Eric Reynolds and Leah Autum Reynolds; special friend,

Jackie Mobbs; and several nieces and nephews.

 

At his request Mr. Smart was cremated.

Mrs. Sybil Mershon

MRS. SYBIL MERSHON, age 82, of Orchard Hill Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday (July 18, 2013) morning in the local nursing home. A native Chattooga Countian, She was born to the late John Henry and Allie Jo Robinson Dooley on October 29, 1930. Mrs. Mershon was a homemaker, member of Highland Avenue Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by two sons the late Paulie Mershon and the late Roger Mershon.

 

Surviving are one sister-Jessie Penland of Trion; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

 

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 19th, at 5:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Barry Brown officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. The Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, Friday from 3:30 P.M. until the hour of service.

MR. CHARLES RAY LIVELY, age 65, of Lyerly, Georgia passed away Wednesday morning at His residence. Born in Walker County, Georgia on March 9, 1948, He was a son of the late Leonard Lee and Lucille Dial Lively. He was a member of Teloga Baptist Church and retired supervisor for Roper Corp. Surviving are His wife-Virginia Lively; children-Kerri Lively of East Ridge, TN., Eddie Lively of LaFayette, Darlene and Kevin Scoggins of Summerville, Alan Simpson of Lyerly, Bonnie Hollingsworth of Trion, and Jeff and Anita Simpson of Lyerly; grandchildren-Adam and Tina Lee, Crystal and Jeremy Elrod, Nicole Cooper, Raven and Matt Rosson, Amanda and Chris Watson, Rani Lively, Keisha and Trey Simpson; several Great Grandchildren; sisters-Leahman Ponder and Elizabeth Long both of LaFayette, Judy Lively of FL.; brother-Alan Lively of LaFayette; several Nieces and Nephews. Mrs. Helen Olene Dooley Obit (EP)

   Mrs. Helen Olene Dooley, age 84 of Summerville, GA  passed away July 17, 2013 at her residence.  Mrs. Dooley was born April 4, 1929 in Trion, GA.  She was retired from Best Manufacturing and a member of the Spring Creek Baptist Church.
   Mrs. Dooley was preceded in death by husband, J. W. "Pete" Dooley; father and mother, Will Christopher and Hattie Lancaster Christopher; and grandson, Eric Eley; several brothers and sisters.
   Mrs. Dooley is survived by daughter, Doris Eley of Summerville, GA; son, Jim (Karen) Dooley of Midland, GA; granddaughter, Katie Eley of Summerville, GA; granddaughter, Lauren (Thomas) Sikes of Midland, GA; great-grandson, Brad Ellis of Summerville, GA; great-granddaughters, Whitley Sikes and Mallory Sikes of Midland, GA; sisters, Margaret (Bill) Vollm of White, GA and Eunice Austin of Athens, GA; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Charles Eugene Williams Obit (ER)

MR. CHARLES EUGENE WILLIAMS, age 46, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday, July 12, 2013, in a Rome hospital. A native of LaFayette, Georgia He was born on September 3, 1967 a son of Charles Edward and Mahala Snyder Williams, who both survive. Mr. Williams was retired from law enforcement and retail sales and was a former National Guardsman. He was preceded in death by a daughter the late Latisha Faith. Surviving are His wife-Tracie Ann Prince Williams; parents-Mr. & Mrs. Charles Edwards of LaFayette; children-Heather Williams & Jeremy Starr, Anna Trace & Anthony Nasser, Erin Shoptow , and Robert Alexander Nassar all of Ark; sister-Angelia Lucille Gruber; brothers-Jeff Alan Williams and Curtis Edward Williams all of LaFayette; Six Grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews. Mr. Harold Cooper “Harry” Johnson Obit (M)

Mr. Harold Cooper “Harry” Johnson, age 91, of Trion, GA, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2013, at Redmond Regional Medical Center.
 
Mr. Johnson was born June 13, 1922, in Lincoln, Nebraska.  He was a gunsmith and owned and operated his own gunsmith shop.  He was a member of the Lyerly United Methodist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps.  He was also a member of the VFW, the Summerville Senior Center, and the National Rifle Association.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Oscar “Teeny” Johnson, and a sister, Betty Jane Johnson.
 
Survivors include his wife, Gwen Johnson of Trion, GA; sons and daughter-in-law, Ron and Teri Johnson of Ponce Inlet, FL, Rayburn and Jo Ann Mitchell of Lyerly, GA; Step-daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Phillip Smith of Centre, AL; and a niece, Karen Johnson Blazo.
 
Funeral services for Mr. Johnson will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, July 18, 2013, from the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Marshall Bryan officiating.  Interment will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.  Honorary Pallbearers will be all personal friends.

Mr. Richard “Rick” Duane Grosjean

Mr. Richard “Rick” Duane Grosjean, age 51, of Trion, GA, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA.
 
Mr. Grosjean was born August 20, 1961 in Carrollton, MO, son of Richard Thurlo and the late Judie Grosjean.  He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church and had worked as a technician with Mount Vernon Mills.  Mr. Grosjean participated in the Stem Cell Research Program at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA.  He loved to fish, play golf, and was an avid animal lover.  In addition to his mother, Mr. Grosjean was preceded in death by his grandmother, Geny Graves.
 
Survivors include his wife, Tracie Grosjean; father, Richard Thurlo; step-father, Duane Grosjean; mother and father-in-law, Lois and Sanford DeBerry; brother, Todd Grosjean; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Larry DeBerry, Sandi and Dale McCollum, Renita Chambers; and a number of nieces and nephews.
 
Funeral services for Mr. Grosjean will be held at 5:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at the Fellowship Baptist Church with Rev. Sanford DeBerry and Rev. Malcolm Harris officiating. Active pallbearers will be Scott Parris, Allen Chambers, J. D. Rape, Trey Chapman, Hollis Siffles, and Dale McCollum.

Mrs. Mattie Lucille Bradley Obit (M)

Mrs. Mattie Lucille Bradley, age 95, of Trion, passes away Saturday, July 13,2013, at the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. 

Mrs. Bradley was born in Henagar, Alabama on April 21, 1918, daughter of the late Erskine and Mime Hillian Culpepper.  She was a member of the United Pentecostal Church and loved fishing, gardening, canning food and quilting.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Irby Bradley; sons, S.J. Bradley, Macon Bradley, Wayne Lamar Bradley, Leon Bradley and Steve Bradley; sisters, Pauline Benefield, Gert James; brothers, Grady Culpepper, Granville Culpepper, Rex Culpepper, Billy Culpepper, Eunice Culpepper and Haskell Culpepper.

Mrs. Bradley is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Geneva Bradley, Johnie and Sheena Bradley, and Darrell Bradley; daughters and sons-in-law, Berma Freeman, Jenila McCurdy, Jo Ann and Dean Park, Linda Kay and Billy Ray Clark, Brenda Sue and Tim Nichols; brothers, Dan Culpepper and Jimmy Culpepper; sister, Barbara Jean Denton; sister-in-law, Carolyn Bradley; 36 grandchildren; 61 great grandchildren; 15 great great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Edward Eugene Guinn, age 77, of Trion, GA, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2013, at his residence.
Mr. Guinn was born July 15, 1935 in Scottsboro, AL, son of the late Ezra and Hazel Knight Guinn.  He was a devout Christian and a member of the Mountain View Baptist Church.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Guinn; a daughter, Deborah Gill; and a grandson, Casey Gill.
Mr. Guinn is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Beverly Guinn; sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Earl Sullivan; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; 2 aunts; and special caregiver, Lisa Stewart.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, July 14, 2013, from the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Norton and Rev. Mrs. Lloyd Reece Sentell obit (M)

Mrs. Lloyd Reece Sentell age 90, of Menlo, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2013 in Menlo.

 

Mrs. Sentell was born in Lyerly, Georgia on September 5, 1922, daughter of the late Pless Evan Reece and Olie Bell Dempsey Reece.  She was a member of the Chesterfield Baptist Church, and formerly attended the Oak Hill United Methodist Church.  Mrs. Sentell was a  homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, J.L Sentell; sons, Ronald Lewis Sentell , Gary Marnell Sentell; brothers, Hollis Reece and Hope Reece; and sisters, Leatha Pledger, Gladys Hall, Jewell Copeland, and Hilda Brown.

 

Mrs. Sentell is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Eston Staton, Mavis and Larry Tucker and Wanda Sentell; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; special friend, Ruth Griffith and a number of nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Services for Mrs. Sentell will be held Friday, July 12, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
