Mrs. Daisy Lee Day Obit (EP)

Mrs. Daisy Lee Day, age 94 of Plum Street, Trion, GA passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at her residence.  Mrs. Day was born October 6, 1918 in Summerville, GA.  She was a house wife and a member of the Trion First Baptist Church. 

Mrs. Day was preceded in death by husband, Henry J. Day; father and mother, Frank and Ida Keith Battles; sisters, Amanda Williams and Maggie Mathis; brothers, Bill Battles, L. C. Battles, and Marshall Battles.

Mrs. Day is survived by daughters, Bobbie (Jimmie) Ball of Ider, AL and Sue (G. F.) Timmerman of Trion, GA; granddaughter, Traci Teems of Rome, GA; great-granddaughter, Nikki (Eric) Hall of Pennville, GA, great-grandsons, Hunter Teems of Rome, GA; great-great grandson, Aiden Hall of Pennville, GA; sisters, Mary Haygood of Trion, GA and Katherine Barrett of Greenwood, SC; several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral service for Mrs. Daisy Lee Day will be conducted Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. from the chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Dr. Floyd Roebuck officiating.  Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens.

Visitation for Mrs. Daisy Lee Day will be Thursday, July 11, 2013 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 11: a.m, to 12:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be nephews.   

Mrs. Betty Jean Cash Obit (M)

Mrs. Betty Jean Cash, age 79, of Summerville, passed away Monday, July 8, 2013 at her residence.

 

Mrs. Cash was born in Berryton, Georgia on September 12, 1933, daughter of the late Johnny J. Nelson and Myrtle Mae Hensley Nelson.  She was an avid animal lover who loved to travel and fish.  Mrs. Cash attended the Summerville Church of God and the South Summerville Baptist Church, was a former member of the American Legion Post 129 Ladies Auxiliary and was retired from Bigelow-Sanford.

 

Mrs. Cash is survived by her husband of 59 years Sewell P. Cash; sons and daughters-in-law, A. Preston and Lori Cash, Michael R. and Terry Tucker; daughter and son-in-law, Keitha and Doug Shamblin; brother and sister-in-law, Johnny Faye and Sara Nelson; sister, Kathryn Pledger; 3 grandchildren, Tonya R. Woods, Doug Shamblin, Jr. and Michelle Glenn; 6 great grandchildren, Brianna Woods, Billy Woods, Ben Woods, Kiley Glenn, David Glenn, Jr. and Mason Shamblin; and a number of nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Services for Mrs. Cash will be held Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Bryant, Rev. Kevin Woods officiating.  Interment will follow in the Summerville Cemetery with Rev. Andy Hutchins officiating.

 

Pallbearers will be Doug Shamblin, Jr., Billy Woods, Jacob McGinnis, Jackie Cash, Andy Cash, Terry Pledger and John Nelson.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Pete Denson, Jimmy Woodard, Gene McGinnis, Special Friend, Jean Smith, and all co-workers from Bigelow-Sanford.

 

Mrs. Cash will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5 until 8 P.M.

Mr. David Lee Guinn Obit (M)

Mr. David Lee Guinn, 84, of Trion,  GA, passed away Sunday July 7, 2013 at his residence.  He was born March 9, 1929, in Jackson County, Alabama, the son of the late John Eloris and Katherine Jane Wilson Guinn.  David was retired from Tennessee Alloy located in Bridgeport, AL, where he worked hard and diligently for his family whom he loved dearly.  He enjoyed fly fishing, gardening and working on his farm, most of all he was a devoted Christian and a member of the Pennville Church of Christ.  David was preceded in death by brothers, Orville and John C. Guinn.

David is survived by his wife of Edna, 2 daughters, Fran Schrader, Peggy Wilson, son, John David Guinn, sister, Stella Grace Fritz, 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held 2:00. Tuesday July 9, 2013 from the Pennville Church of Christ with Minister Robbie Eversole officiating  with interment in the Lyerly Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be Thomas Guinn, Chris Fritze, Carl Gentry, Jerry Wilson, Arron Elder, Jimmy Westbrooks.

Mr. Guinn will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday July 8, 2013.  Mr. Guinn will also lie in state at the church Tuesday from 1:00 p.m until the service hour. Mr. Jerrel Wayne Simmons (M)

Mr. Jerrel Wayne Simmons, age 40, of Summerville, GA died Thursday, July 4, 2013 at Piedmont Health Care in Atlanta, GA.

Mr. Simmons was born January 31, 1973 in Henagar, AL, the son of John Carlton Simmons and the late Veda Nell Broyles Simmons. He was employed with Mt. Vernon Mills.

Mr. Simmons is survived by his father, John Carlton Simmons; a son, Calvin Douglas Gray; a brother, James Simmons; and a grandmother, Opal Broyles.

At his request, Mr. Simmons will be cremated and burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery in Sylvania, AL.

Mrs. Linda Lewis Chamlee Obit (M)

Mrs. Linda Lewis Chamlee, age 70, of LaFayette, GA, died July 5, 2013 at her residence.

Mrs. Chamlee was born June 16, 1943 in Rome, GA, daughter of the late Charles Lewis and Clemmie Lee Pyle Grogan.  She was a member of the Freedom Tabernacle, and prior to her retirement, was employed with the Celanese Yarn Mill.

Mrs. Chamlee is survived by her daughters, Zina Jackson and Tammy Campbell; grandchildren, Chasity Pitts and Jason Redden; and great-grandchildren, Cody Redden, Destiny Redden, Gregory Norvell, Jenny West, and Aven Campbell.

Funeral services for Mrs. Chamlee will be held at 1:00 P.M. Sunday, July 7, 2013, from the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Ricky Studdard and Rev. James Samples officiating.  Burial will follow in the Summerville Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Walter Jackson, Cody Redden, Jason Redden, Ricky Maner, and Richard Chamlee.

Ms. Linda L. Bankey Obit (ER)

MISS Linda L. Bankey, age 74, of Trion, Georgia, passed away Tuesday morning, July 2, 2013, in a local Nursing Home. Miss Bankey was born in Trion, GA March 9, 1939, a daughter of the late Henry Joseph and Anita Mae Fralick Bankey. She was Baptist by Faith and retired from the Veterans Administration.

Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law: Martha Raye Bankey and Glenn De Biasio of Novato, CA; Aunt- Lavergne “Toots” Archer of Largo, FL; Cousins- Frank Archer, Janice Kay, Amy Hardeman, Paul Hardeman, Jessie Ann Hardeman, Wayne Bankey.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Minister Claude Smythmier officiating, interment in West Hill Cemetery. Ms. Shirley Mae Perry Obit (Willis)

MS. SHIRLEY MAE PERRY – AGE 72, – Of Summerville, Georgia passed away on Friday, June 28, 2013.  She was born August 14, 1940 to the late Mr. Nathaniel and Julia Mae Ryles Perry, one son, Danny Perry, granddaughter, Tonya Allen, and brother, Roger Perry.

 

Shirley will be sadly missed by her daughtes, Debbie Perry, Brenda (Willie) Long, Tammy (Fitzgerald) Christopher, Stacy (James) Parker, Tracy Perry, of Summerville, Georgia, and Lynn (Daniel) Stamper of Chattanooga, Tennessee; one son, Senorise McArthur Perry, Sr., of Summerville; brothers, Arthur Perry and James Perry; sisters, Maxine Montgomery, Janice Perry, Peggy Perry, and Barbara Perry of Summerville; fourteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; Godbrothers, Mose Adams, Jr. and James Robert Thompson; special friend, Tommie Boykin; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

 

The Celebration of Life will be Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at 2:00 P. M. at New Spirit and Truth with Bishop V. T. Harden and other ministers officiating.  She will lie in state at the church from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour.  Interment, Summerville Cemetery.  

Mrs. Betty J. Pool Obit (ER)

MRS. BETTY JEAN POOL, age 81, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Monday, July 1, 2013, in a Rome hospital. Mrs. Pool was born in Clay County, Alabama March 13, 1932 a daughter of the late John and Edith Britt Graben. Mrs. Pool was retired from food service in Chattooga County Schools, a member of Summerville First Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by her husband the late Clentis M. Pool on February 22, 2008.

Surviving are daughters- Teresa Reynolds and Renita Tucker both of Summerville; Karen Casey of Jacksonville, Al; Son-Jeff Pool of Decatur, Al. Grandchildren- Kenneth C. Tucker, Jeffery Pool, Jonathan Pool; sisters-Carolyn Smith of Lineville, AL. and Helen Norred of Ashland, AL.; brother-Jack Graben of Barfield, AL.; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 3:00 P.M. from the Summerville First Baptist Church with Dr. Paul Mason officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Mrs. Helen Virginia Arden Obit (ER)

MRS. HELEN VIRGINIA ARDEN, age 85, of Trion, Georgia passed away Friday, June 28, 2013, at Her residence. A native of Shinbone Valley, Menlo, Georgia, She was born to the late Ben and Mae Lawson Wood Baker on December 5, 1927. Mrs. Arden graduated from Trion High School in 1945, was a member of Trion First Baptist Church for more than 50 years, and was retired Claims Clerk, in the General Office, for Riegel Textile Corporation from 1970 to 1992; She was presented the Georgia Textile Citizen of the Year award in 1987, by the then Governor Joe Frank Harris. She was preceded in death by husband the late Paul Wesley Arden on December 22, 2002. Surviving are daughter-Paula Arden of Trion; nieces and nephews-Steve Baker of Summerville, Carol Haynes of Athens, TN., Bobbye Jones of High Point, N.C., and Ben Baker of Rising Fawn; cousin-Lib Young of Shinbone Valley, Menlo; several Great Nieces and Great Nephews also survive. Memorial service will be held Sunday, July 7th, at 2:00 P.M. at Her residence on Simmons Street-Trion, with additional parking at the Trion First United Methodist Church; inurnment in West Hill Cemetery. MR. Elbert Allen Keen

MR. ELBERT ALLEN KEEN, age 73, of Keen Road-Summerville, Georgia, Teloga Community, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2013, morning in a Chattanooga hospital. A lifetime native of Chattooga County, Georgia, He was born to the late Elgin Elbert and Bertie Simmons Keen on March 6, 1940. Mr. Keen was a member of Beersheba Presbyterian Church, an avid golfer, and member of the Trion Golf Club; was production supervisor for PMI Industries, in LaFayette.

Surviving are His wife-Charlotte Ann Keen; daughter-Rebecca Dianne Boyd of Calhoun; son-Jeffery Allen Keen of Teloga; grandchildren-Stephen Keen, Alania Carpenter, Evie Ann Jones, Alan Keen, and Elizabeth Maddux; Six Great Grandchildren; sisters-Minnie Allmon of Trion, Jo Shamblin of Teloga, Evelyn Willingham of Summerville, Shelby Ward of Chelsea, and Mary Floyd of Lyerly; brother-David Keen, Sr. of Teloga; several Nieces and Nephews. 

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 29th, at 2:00 P.M. from the Beersheba Presbyterian Church with Pastors Ken Terrell and Ronald Ragon officiating, interment in Macedonia Cemetery.
