Mr. Randolph Hampton Floyd Obit (M)

 

Mr. Randolph Hampton Floyd, age 85, of Trion, GA passed away Sunday, March 31, 2013 at the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Mr. Floyd was born in Trion, Georgia on November 30, 1927, son of the late Nick Hampton Floyd and Eula Tinney Floyd.  He was a member of the Mountain View Baptist Church, the Quarter Century Club and loved to pick guitar and was an avid fisherman.   Prior to his retirement, Mr. Floyd was employed in the Bleach House at Mt. Vernon Mills, and the Trion Recreation Department.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Aileen Williams Floyd; a sister, Mae Silverine; and a brother, Douglas Floyd.

Mr. Floyd is survived by his children, Marty and Melinda Floyd, Garry Floyd, Randy Floyd and Sheri Floyd Johnston; sister, Surel Mull; grandchildren, Nathan L. (Marcie) Floyd, Shannon K. Floyd, and Evan Johnston; great grandchildren, Will Floyd, Braxton Floyd, AJ Eirick and Pam Eirick; special friends, Freddie Christopher, Kenneth Treadaway, Coleen TReadaway, and numerous other friends from Mt. Vernon Mills and The Picking Barn; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Floyd will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 4:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Pettyjohn officiating.  Interment will follow in the Green Hills Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Mull, Billy McCollum, Jason Mull, Nolan Crisp, Anthony McWhorter and Rusty Brown.  Honorary Pallbearers will be the staff of Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Floyd will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 8 P.M.

 

 

Mr. J.D. Hurtt Obit (M)

Mr. J. D. Hurtt, age 86, of Trion, GA died Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Mr. Hurtt was born in Fort Payne, AL on November 19, 1926, son of the late Houston Hurtt and Clara Baugh Hurtt. He was a member of the Trion Heights Baptist Church, was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II, and prior to retirement, was employed in the Weave Room at Mt. Vernon Mills. Mr. Hurtt was a member of the Quarter Century Club and was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Lee Hurtt.

Mr. Hurtt is survived by his wife, Mamie Viola Bradford Hurtt; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael D. and Robin Hurtt, Timothy S. and Sylvia Hurtt; a sister, Faye Hurtt Cross; grandchildren, Lindsay Hurtt, Dr. Kelly Hurtt Seo and Dr. Hak Seo, Richie and Chasitiy Hurtt; great-grandchildren, Thomas Seo, Henry Seo, and Charlotte Seo.

Funeral services for Mr. Hurtt will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. from the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Vernon Johnson and Rev. Steve Peppers officiating. Burial will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Hak S. Seo, Dale Hurtt, Richie Hurtt, Bobby Allen, Junior Bradford, Donnie Allen, and Charles Eason. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Trion Heights Adult Mens and Adult Ladies Sunday School Classes.

Mr. Hurtt will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M

Mr. Roger D. Mershon Obit (ER)

MR. ROGER D. MERSHON, age 62, of Orchard Hill Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday, March 29, 2013, in the local nursing home. He was born on November 13, 1950 and a member of United by Faith Baptist Church. Mr. Mershon was a Clerk for George’s Quick Service in Summerville and was preceded in death by his brother the late Paulie Mershon.

Surviving are mother-Sybil Mershon of Summerville; aunt-Jessie Penland; several Cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 1st, at 2:00 P.M. from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Barry Brown officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Active Pallbearers T. C. Pledger, Doug Colbert, Bob Pledger, Gene Cavin, John McGraw, David Tyson. The Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Monday from 12:00 noon until the hour of service.

Mrs. Foy Lee Canada Styles Obit (M)

 

Mrs. Foy Lee Canada Styles, age 90, of Menlo, GA died Friday, March 29, 2013 at her residence.

Mrs. Styles was born in Menlo, Georgia on September 13, 1922, daughter of the late Erskine Hardwick and Minnie Chappelear Hardwick. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Menlo and was a homemaker and a farmer. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Styles was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Albert “Dyke” Canada, her second husband, Robert Styles; sisters, Mittie Bell Copeland, and Pauline Maxey.

Mrs. Styles is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Greg Canada; Lamar and Jane Canada, Larry and Theresa Canada; two sisters, Ann Clark and Jo Trammel; Grandchildren, Britt Canada, Joey Canada, Amy Ferguson, Kevin Canada, Justin Canada, Patrick J. Canada, Patrick A. Canada, Marissa Canada and Carley Canada; 13 Great-Grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; special friends, Shirley Crain, Jane Sumner and Jean Mitchell; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Monday, April 1, 2013 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Scott Quinn and Rev. Larry Elliott officiating. Burial will follow in Alpine Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Britt Canada, Kevin Canada, Joey Canada, Justin Canada, Patrick A. Canada, and Patrick J. Canada. Honorary pallbearers will be all members of Eugene Baker Sunday School Class of Menlo First Baptist Church.

Mr. Charlie Roy Tucker Obit (M)

Mr. Charlie Roy Tucker, age 81, of Jamestown, AL, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Tucker was born in Jamestown, AL on April 13, 1931, son of the late Joe Isaac Tucker and Lula Ann Burgess Tucker.  He was of the Baptist Faith and prior to retirement was employed in the Textile Industry.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Tucker was preceded in death by a daughter, Rose Marie Tucker; brothers, Luther Tucker, Frank Tucker and Bert Tucker and a sister, Lena Mae Mason.

Mr. Tucker is survived by his wife, Virginia Sue Goodridge Tucker; children, Gene & Faye Tucker, Gayle & Terry Gazaway, Deborah & Jimmy Howard, Michael Tucker, Annette & Ricky Broome, Jeanette & Daniel Bone, Joey Tucker, Stacy Tucker; a brother, Max Tucker; 19 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Tucker will be held Friday, March 29, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Minister J.W. Mitchell officiating.  Interment will follow in the Moseley Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Donny Gazaway, Brian Gazaway, John Tucker, David Howard, Frankie Aldridge and Joseph Tucker.

Mr. James “Cotton ” Anderson Sr. Obit (ER)

MR. JAMES “COTTON” ANDERSON, Sr., age 74, of Summerville, Georgia passed away 
Tuesday, March 26, 2013, evening in the local nursing home.  Born in Chattanooga, 
Tennessee on February 23, 1939, He was a son of the late John Vernon and 
Prissy Lula Nation Anderson.  Mr. Anderson was Church of God by Faith, 
served in the U. S. Air Force, and was a Welder for Superior Mechanics 
Service.  Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his first wife the late 
Glenda Joyce Jones Anderson.  	
Surviving are daughters and spouses-Donna and Donnie Goodson, 
Frances and Randall Worley all of Summerville, and Tammy Young 
of Chattanooga; sons and daughters-in-law-James, Jr. and Patty 
Anderson and Leighton and Zeta Anderson all of Trion; half 
sister-Idella Payne of Rossville; 13 Grandchildren,
 13 Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 28th, at
2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of 
Earle Rainwater Funeral Home, with Pastor Kevin Norton officiating,
 interment in West Hill Cemetery.  Active Pallbearers Randall Worley,

Miss Geraldine Chambers, age 97 of Milton Circle, Summerville, GA passed away Monday, March 25, 2013 at Oakview Nursing & Rehab Center.  Miss Chambers was born May 18, 1915 in Holland, GA.  She was a member of the Mountain View Baptist Church. 

Miss Chambers was preceded in death by her father and mother, James Clayton Chambers and Della White Chambers; 5 sisters and 3 brothers.

Miss Chambers is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Norton officiating.  Interment will follow in the Howell Cemetery.

Visitation for Miss Geraldine Chambers will be Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Mr. Mike Edwin “Mikey” Cooper Obit (M)

Mr. Mike Edwin “Mikey” Cooper, age 66, of Menlo, GA died Monday, March 25, 2013 at

Redmond Regional Medical Center.

 

Mr. Cooper was born January 1, 1947 in Summerville, GA, the son of the late Watson

Riley and Vera Cooper Riley.  He was a self employed brick mason.  Mr. Cooper was a

member of Menlo First Baptist Church.

 

Mr. Cooper is survived by a brother, Billy Hardy; Nieces and Nephews.

 

Graveside and interment services will be held at 11:30 a. m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013

at Little Sand Mountain Cemetery with Rev. Billy Dempsey officiating.  Pallbearers will be

Jason Harris, Grady Crabb, Lamar Pledger, Joey Ross, Joseph Swords, and Scott Pope.

 

Mr. Cooper will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from

10:00 until 11:00 a. m. on Wednesday.

Mr. Johnny Hoyt Farmer Obit (EP)

Mr. John Hoyt Farmer, age 100 of Melbourne, Fla. , formerly of Summerville passed away on Friday, March 22, 2013. He was born May 7, 1912 in Toccoa, Ga. son of the late James & Eunice Farmer.

He was Owner/Operator of a Commercial Laundry in Summerville for many years, received a Masters Degree from Oglethorpe University, was a member of the Hall of Fame at Oglethorpe University. Mr. Farmer was a member of Summerville First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and was a veteran of the US Navy . He was preceded in death by 5 brothers & sisters and his wife Bolling Brown Farmer in 2005.

Survivors include his daughter, Katherine Bolling Farmer of Ashburn, VA and a sister Barbara Kinchiloe of Richmond, VA.

Visitation will be Tuesday from noon until the service hour at Erwin-Pettit Funeral Home. 

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. from the Summerville First Baptist Church with Dr. Paul Mason officiating. Interment will follow in Summerville Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be the Deacons of the Summerville  First Baptist Church and are requested to meet at the Church on Tuesday at 2:15 p.m.

In-lieu of flowers the family ask that  contributions be made to the Summerville First Baptist Curch.
