Mrs. Mary Jacqulyn Wofford Obit (ER)

MRS. MARY JACQULYN WOFFORD, age 58, of Davis Street-Summerville, Georgia, Berryton Community, passed away Friday, December 22, 2012, at the residence. A native of Chattooga County, Georgia She was born on March 12, 1954 to Bobby Joe and Georgia Carol Helton Davis, who survive. She was retired from retail sales and was preceded in death by husband the late William David Wofford.

Surviving are Son-Justin Wofford of Rome; Parents-Jo and Carol Davis of Berryton; sister-Freda Davis of Lindale, GA.; half brother-Bobby Joe Davis, Jr. of Jacksonville, FLA.; several Nieces and Nephews.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, December 29th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Mickey Skates officiating.

Mrs. Virginia B. Tucker Obit (ER)

MRS. VIRGINIA B. TUCKER, age 80, of Menlo, Georgia passed away Saturday, December 22, 2012, in the local nursing home. Born in the Chelsa Community of Chattooga County, Georgia on August 18, 1932; a daughter of the late Brown and Ethel Denton Wofford. She was a lifetime member of Menlo Baptist Church and a member of the Order of Eastern Star. The former owner/operator of Tucker Grocery Store, later working as creeler @ Mohawk Industries, and also was a CNA in health care. Mrs. Tucker was preceded in death by her beloved husband, the late Lee Roy “Bud” Tucker on July 12, 1994, brothers-the late LeRoy Wofford and Captain Bobbie Wofford, and a brother-in-law-the late James D. Baker.

Surviving are Her children & spouses-Marsha & Bob Farrow, Dale & Carolyn Tucker; grandchildren-Ashley Farrow, Autumn & Brian Baggett, Megan & Cassey Ray, Savannah Tucker; great grandchildren-Michaela Baggett, Brianna Baggett, Brandon Baggett, Conner Ray, Ella Ray; sister & brother-in-law-Martha & Jerry Strickland; brother & sister-in-law-Buddy & Hazel Wofford; several Nieces & Nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 24th, at 2 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home, with Rev. Billy Dempsey and Rev. Greg Ludy officiating, interment in the family lot of Ami Cemetery. Dylan Wayne Hurley

Mr. Dylan Wayne Hurley, age 20, of Summerville, GA passed away Friday, December 21, 2012 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Mr. Hurley was born in Rome, Georgia on October 16, 1992, son of Raymar Joyner and the late Pamela Hurley.  He was a member of the Perennial Springs Baptist Church, and was an avid outdoorsman that loved to hunt and fish.  Mr. Hurley was currently studying to become a welder and in addition to his mother, was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Hugh and Doris Joyner; and his maternal great grandparents, Robert and Trixie Hurley.

Mr. Hurley is survived by his father, Raymar Joyner; maternal grandparents and adopted parents, Wayne and Julia Hurley; brothers, Ethan Brison and David Hurley; girlfriend, Stephanie Hampton; special friend, Laurie Hurley; niece, Madyson Hurley; and a number of Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

Funeral Services for Mr. Hurley will be held Sunday, December 23, 2012 at 4:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Brandon Bishop, Rev. Alton Stamey and Rev. Ray Teems officiating.  Interment will follow in the Green Hills Memorial Gardens.

 Pallbearers will be Cody Hughes, Christian Turkett, Joe Reed, Jeff Martin, Blake Bannister, and Drew Bean.  Honorary Pallbearers will be all family and personal friends.

Mr. Phil Hix Obit (M)

Mr. Perry Phillips “Phil” Hix, age 66, of Trion, GA passed away Thursday, December 20, 2012 at his residence.

Mr. Hix was born in Trion, GA on December 19, 1946, son of the late Freeman Hix and Myrtle Price Hix. He was a member of the Trion First Baptist Church and prior to retirement, was employed in the Textile Industry for 35 years. Mr. Hix was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served in the United States Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Steed Evans and a step-daughter, Kelli Martin.

Mr. Hix is survived by his wife, Teresa Hix; daughter, Heather Robinson; step-son, Terry Hughes; a brother, George Hix; two sisters, Katherine Humphrey and Freida Parker; 5 grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Hix will be held Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Dr. Floyd Roebuck officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Helen Richards Tucker Obit (M)

Mrs. Helen Richards Tucker, age 69, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Sunday December 16, 2012, at her residence.

Mrs. Tucker was born December 6, 1944, in Tallahassee, FL, the daughter of the late Thomas Matthew Whiteside and Gladys Estelle Cecil Whiteside. Mrs. Tucker was a retired CNA with Hutcheson Hospice, a member of the Trion Heights Baptist Church, loving mother and caregiver, who was strong in a never failing faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Jerome Tucker.

Survivors include her children, Charles Patrick Tucker, Susan and Corey Perry, Stacey Neal, brother, Kenneth and Teresa Whiteside, Mary and Carlton Stovall, 8 Grandchildren, a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday December 19, 2012 from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Vernon Johnson and Chaplain Ricky Studdard officiating with burial in West Hill Cemetery. Mr. James Junior Speer, age 75, of Gaylesville, AL died Friday, December 14, 2012 at his residence.

Mr. Speer was born October 11, 1937 in Cherokee, AL, the son of the late Jim Speer and Maggie Henderson Speer.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Joyce Speer, daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Dan Hicks, of Pisgah, Al; Christy and Lane Bailey, Debra and Darron Hamilton, of Gaylesville, AL; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Brandy Speer, of Gaylesville, AL; 7 Grandchildren.

Graveside and interment services for Mr. Speer will be held at 2:30 p. m. EST Monday, December 17, 2012 at the Union Hill Cemetery, Gaylesville, AL, with Rev. Mike Edwards officiating.

Mr. James Randall McLain, age 56, of Summerville, GA died Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

 

Mr. McLain was born March 14, 1956 in Rogersville, TN, the son of the late

James E. McLain and Wanda Farmer McLain.  He was formerly employed with Mohawk Industries.

 

Mr. McLain is survived by his wife, Teresa McLain; son, Jamie McLain; daughter,

Missy McLain; step-children, Terry McWhorter, April Thomas, Ron Thomas, Tesa Kellar, Duran Shropshire, Apache Campbell, and Luke Campbell; special child, Margaret Arnold; sisters and brothers-in-law, Diane and Ralph McDonald, Norma and Gene Bennett; grandchildren, Shyanne McWhorter, Kimberly McWhorter, Shawnna Sword, Destiny Lowe, Brooklyn Lowe, Ryan Kellar, Mercedes Kellar, Summer Kellar, Hope Nettles, Faith Campbell, Hannah Campbell, Apache Campbell, Charlotte Campbell, and Madison Campbell;

Mrs. Joanne Sumner Hill Obit (EP)


   Mrs. Joann Sumner Hill age 74, of  Harrisburg Road, Summerville, GA                                                                passed away Thursday,  December 12, 2012 at Heritage Healthcare at  Shepherd

Hills.  Mrs. Hill was born June 16, 1938 in Summerville, GA to the late Elmer

“Pete” Sumner and Maggie Chappelear Sumner.  She was married to the late

William M. “Bill” Hill.  In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a

brother, Charles Sumner, Sr.; her niece, Eleanor “Cissy” Sumner; and a very

special cousin, Renae Money.

 

    Mrs. Hill was a member of New Hope North Baptist Church.  She was retired

from the Cloth Room at Mount Vernon Mills.

 

   Survivors include 3 wonderful nephews, Charles “Butch”, William, and Richard

Sumner; 2 nieces-in-law, Melanie and Melody Sumner; 3 great-nieces, Charis, Caitlan,

and Margelen Sumner; 3 great-nephews, Kencade, Cole, and Raeden Sumner; 2 step

great-nephews, Justin Wilbanks and Drake Cabe; sister-in-law, Peggy Sumner; and

aunts, Edith Studdard of LaFayette, GA and Myrtis Chappelear of Chamblee, GA;

 and several cousins.  Her family was her life.

 

   Graveside and interment services will be conducted Saturday, December 15, 2012

at 2:00 p.m. from the West Hill Cemetery with Rev. Ralph Sumner officiating.

 Interment will be in West Hill Cemetery.

 

   Visitation will be Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home

 where the family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to  2:00 p.m.

Mrs. Maria Lynn Steele Obit (M)

Ms. Maria Lynn Steele, age 36, of LaFayette, GA died Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at Erlanger Medical Center.

 

Ms. Steele was born July 21, 1976 in Fort Oglethorpe, GA, the daughter of Jerry Garland “Babe” Steele and the late Kathrine Pendergrass Steele.  Other than her

mother, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Suzanne Steele.

 

Survivors include her father, Garland “Babe” Steele; step-sister, Carie Latham;

step-brother, Adam Trammell; and several Uncles, Aunts, and Cousins.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, December 15, 2012 at

Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Autry officiating.  Burial will

follow in LaFayette Memory Gardens.  Active pallbearers will be Rick Deberry,

Mrs. Willie Mae Hogg Obit (M)

Mrs. Willie Mae Hogg, age 96, of Menlo, Georgia, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Ross Memorial Healthcare in Kennesaw.

 

Mrs. Hogg was born in Alpine, Georgia on May 16, 1916, daughter of the late Tom Carter and Maude Chappelear Carter.  She was a member of the Menlo Church of Christ.  Prior to retirement she was employed by Tri County Hospital and Hutcheson Medical Center.  Mrs. Hogg was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Hogg; daughter, Winifred Hogg, and a sister, Clara Nell Hester.

 

Mrs. Hogg is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Jerrel Hogg and Flora Cook, Loran and Nancy Hogg; 7 Grandchildren; 12 Great grandchildren; 3 Great-great grandchildren.

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Hogg will be held Sunday, December 16, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Minister Emerson Blythe officiating.  Interment will follow in the Alpine Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Kenny Hogg, Mike Hogg, Brian Hogg, Barry Hogg, Bill Kinzy, and Tim Willingham.
