Mr. D.A. “Pops” Bearden Obit (M)

Mr. D A “Pops” Bearden, age 84, of Summerville, GA died Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at his residence.

Mr. Bearden was born February 15, 1928 in Chatsworth, GA, the son of the late Doc Andrew Bearden and Irene Patterson Bearden Johnson. He attended Wayside Baptist Church. He was retired from Storey Lumber Company, but for most of his life he was a cotton and chicken farmer. He was a great fisherman and he loved to tell tall tales.

Mr. Bearden is survived by his wife, Sarah Rollins Bearden; sons and daughters-in-law, Frank “Tony” and Darlene Bearden, Jim and Lisa Bearden, and Donald Bearden; daughter, Virginia Stratton; brothers, Dailey Bearden, Lon Sidney “Bo” Bearden, and Jackie Johnson; sisters and brother-in-law, Viola Elrod, Mary and Leonard Bearden; 7 Grandchildren; 9 Great Grandchildren; 1 Great Great Grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Thursday, August 30, 2012 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Howell and Rev. Don Knowles officiating. Burial will follow at Summerville Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Greg Bearden, Dalton Bearden, Scott Whitlock, John Dodson, Edward Tidmore, and Brian Jennings. Honorary pallbearer will be Yvette Lyles.

Mr. Bearden will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Wednesday, August 29, 2012.

Mrs. Elsie Geraldine Fortune Obit (M)

Mrs. Elsie Geraldine Fortune, age 80, of Summerville, GA, passed away Sunday August 26, 2012, in Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Fortune was born February, 24, 1932, in Trion, GA. She retired from E.T. Barwick Mills and was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Richard Fortune.

Survivors include her children, Gary Fortune, Summerville, GA, Marilyn and Danny Hill of Rocky Face, GA, grandchild, Kerrie Hill.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 11:00 A. M. (EST) on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 from the Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Andy Hutchins officiating.

The family request no flowers and there will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Infant Conner McGill Obit (M)

Infant Conner Liam McGill, of Lyerly, GA died Wednesday, August 22, 2012.

Conner was born May 5, 2012 at Rome, GA. He was preceded in death grandparents, William “Bill” Browning, Linda “Gail” Nelson, Michael Gilbert McGill, and Granvil Headrick.

Conner is survived by his mother, Corbin Gail Browning; father, Michael Sidney “Sid” McGill; brother, Tanner McGill; grandparents, Lisa Browning, Bubba Browning, Steve and Starr McGill, Susan Reece, Danny Reece; great grandparents, Judy Crabtree, Brad Crabtree, Jackie and Jennie Corbin; great great grandparents, Lois and Carl Anderson, Pat Headrick, Carolyn & J. R. Flarity; aunts, Rachel McCool, Amanda Bedwell, Kandy Trammell, Stephaney Rich, Savanna McGill, and Sophie McGill, Kayla Flarity.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 3:30 p. m. Saturday, August 25, 2012 at West Hill Cemetery, with Rev. Andy Hutchins officiating. Pallbearers will be Steve McGill, William Browning, and Aaron Rutledge.

Conner will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p. m. Saturday. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to Sudden Infant Death Research.

Mrs. Susie Mae Green Obit (M)

Mrs. Susie Mae Green, age 75, of Summerville, GA died Wednesday,
August 22, 2012, at Redmond Regional Medical Center.
 
Mrs. Green was born October 30, 1929 in Summerville, GA, the daughter
of the late James Thomas Burton and Ona Mae Ware Burton.   She was retired from Greater Naples Nursing Home.   She was a member of Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church where she served as one of the mother’s of the church.  She loved gospel music, food, wrestling, and her church family. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Green; and a brother Bobby James Burton.
 
Mrs. Green left behind a host of Cousins here in Georgia and in Tennessee.
 
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a. m. Saturday, August 25, 2012 at
Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor George H. Beavers officiating.
Burial will follow in Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.  Active
pallbearers will be Stan Moseley, Gene Kirby, Jackie Kirby, Andrew Lawrence,
Jr., Carlton Moseley, and Hamp Moseley, JR.  Flower bearers will be Shirley
Moseley, Patsy Wade, and Denise Moore.
 
Mrs. Green will be in state at Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church at 9:00 a. m.
until the service hour on Saurday, August 25, 2012.

Mr. Fred J. Hunter Obit (M)

Mr. Fred J. Hunter, Menlo, GA passed away Friday, August 17, 2012 at the Erlanger Medical Center from injuries received in an automobile accident on Monday, August 13, 2012.

Mr. Hunter was the son of the late Sam Hunter and Azore Mason Hunter. Known for his humor and wit, Fred enjoyed life and since his retirement from Allen Smith Chevrolet, was often found in his shop repairing a lawnmower. He was preceded in death by a son, Freddy Hunter, a daughter, Lynn Hunter, and several brothers and sisters.

Mr. Hunter is survived by his wife, Dale Hunter; daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Terry Vaughn; sons and daughter-in-law, Scott and Evette Hunter and Darry Hunter; brother, Horace Hunter; sisters, Mildred Edgeworth and Roxie King; nine grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and a number of in-laws, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, August 26, 2012 at 4:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 3:30 P.M. until the service hour.

According to Mr. Hunter’s wishes, he will be cremated. The family may be contacted at the residence, 1145 Jamestown Road in Menlo.

Mr. Jeffery F. Covington Obit (M)

Mr. Jeffery F. Covington, age 71, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Covington was born in Menlo, Georgia on April 26, 1941, son of the late Will Covington and Delia Hudgins Covington. He was a veteran of the United States Army, and prior to retirement, was employed with Mt. Vernon Mills.

Mr. Covington is survived by his wife, Mary Harris Covington; sons, Benjamin Covington and Jeffery Covington all of Summerville; brothers, Mr. Henry Lee Covington of Menlo, and Mr. George and Mrs. Jean Covington of Summerville; sisters, Mrs. Annie Bea Coleman of Chattanooga; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Barbara Johnson, Mrs. JoAnn (Tommy) Collier, Mrs. Ruthie Rounsaville, and Mrs. Helen Powell; Grandchildren, Lacy Shropshire, Talea Covington, and Jeffrey McCutchins; special friend, Fred Powell; a special Aunt, Sarah Hudgins; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside and Interment Services will be held Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at the Family Plot in the Summerville Cemetery with Rev. Jessie Bankston and Minister John Lewis officiating.

Pallbearers will be Fred Powell and Mr. Covington’s Nephews. Honorary Pallbearers will be his friends in the Community.

Mrs. Deborah Louise Parker Obit (M)

Mrs. Deborah Louise Parker, age 51, of Summerville passed away Monday, August 20, 2012 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center.
 
Mrs. Parker was born in Summerville Georgia on May 26, 1961, daughter of Kenneth Parker and Anita Louise Greene. 
 
Mrs. Parker is survived by her children, Michael Clarke, Anna Wibirt, and Anita Mason; father, Ken Parker; mother, Anita Greene; brother, Butch Parker; sister, Anetra Howard; grandchildren, Mike Schrader, John Schrader, Savanna Evitt, Preston Hughes, Ruthie Majors, and Mason Majors; and a number of nieces and nephews.
 
Memorial Services will be held Friday, August 24, 2012 at 6:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Norton officiating.  The family will receive friends Friday from 5:00 P.M. until the service hour.

Mrs. Pauline J. Grannie Adams Obit (EP)

Pauline J. (Grannie) Adams, 85, Ridge Street, Trion, died August 21, 2012 at her residence on Tuesday.

Mrs. Adams was born October 20, 1926, the daughter of the late Edwin E. and Virgie Lee Jackson and was preceded in death by her husband Nipp S. Adams, one son-in-law, Melvin L. Adams, and one great-grandchild, Ashley Nicole Wright.  She was a retiree of Mount Vernon Mills.  Mrs. Adams was a member of the Trion United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two sisters and one brother-in-law, Eudene Mann, and Anna Lee and George Baird; one brother and one sister-in-law, Earl and Betty Jackson; two daughters and sons-in-law, Raymond and Wanda Murphy and Don and Juanita Henderson, two sons and daughters-in-law Terry S. and Lucy Adams and John B. and Georgia Mae Adams; seven granddaughters; five grandsons-in-law, Dickie and Cindy Anderson, Alan and Gwenette Powell, Preston and Paula Stephenson, Philip and Angie Wells, Travis and Barda Swinford, Cheryl and Barry Kauffman, and Beth Henderson; six grandsons and one granddaughter-in-law, Robert Adams, Jonathan Henderson, Mark Spencer Henderson, Ray Murphy, Phaisit Kimakom, and Randy and Misty Adams.

Surviving are nine great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons-in-law, Mickey and Stephanie Floyd, Jeremy and Ginger Overby, Christina Powell, Tiffany Wright, Brittany Wright, Kylie Swinford, Hailey Adams, Ryleigh Ivers and Christian Wells; six great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter-in-law, Jeremy and Megan Anderson, Cody Siffles, Matthew Adams, Nathan and Caleb Kauffman, and Trevor Swinford.  One great- great-granddaughter, Jordon Floyd, and seven great-great-grandsons, Tony Floyd, Nathan and Braden Willingham, Layton and Jackson Overby, and Ryan and Brantley Anderson; and several nieces and nephews also survived.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Thursday from the chapel of Erwin-Pettit Funeral Home with the Rev. Art Graves officiating.  Interment was in West Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Adams will lie-in-state Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m.

Pallbearers were Robert Adams, Jonathan Henderson, Mark Henderson, Philip Wells, Jeremy Anderson, Preston Stephenson, Alan Powell and Travis Swinford.

MRS. MARY HELEN DAVIS, age 82, of Highland Avenue-Summerville, Georgia passed away Monday, August 2, 2012, in a Rome hospital. A native of Chickmauga, Georgia, She was born to the late Robert D. and Alma Lively Browning on July 13, 1930. Mrs. Davis was a member of Ridgedale Unity Church of God and retired from the creeling department of Mohawk Mills. Surviving are son & daughter-in-law-Danny R. & Sally Davis of Summerville; grandsons-Michael & Ragon Crabtree of Rome, Jimbo & Gina Crabtree and Stacy & Crystal Crabtree all of Summerville; eight Great Grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 22nd, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Russell officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. MRS. DORIS ANN WOOTEN, age 72, of Marietta, Georgia passed away Monday, August 20, 2012, in a Marietta health care. She was born in Summerville, Georgia to the late Nathan Turner and Minnie Bailey Brown on February 14, 1940. Mrs. Wooten was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband the late Dan Wayne Wooten on May 18, 2006. Surviving are her daughter-Connie Renee Wooten of Marietta; sister-Juanita Reynolds of Summerville; brother-Bobby Brown of Cloudland; several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 21st, at 1:00 P.M. from Graveside in Summerville Cemetery with Rev. Joel Smith and Gregg Kortman officiating.
