Mr. Don Hamilton Jennings (ER)

MR. DON HAMILTON JENNINGS, age 51, of Richmond Kentucky, passed away Thursday, March 8, 2012, in Richmond. Mr. Jennings was born in Ware Shoals, South Carolina on May 2, 1960, a son of Hamilton Ralls and Billie Jean Burns Jennings of Trion, Georgia, who survive. Surviving are daughter-Holly Jennings of Mt. Vernon, KY; sons-Jesse Dylan Jennings and Matthew Ralls Jennings both of Summerville; Parents; sister-Luci Jennings of Trion; brother-Russ Jennings of Rome. Memorial service will be Saturday, March 10th, at 5:30 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Mr. Russ Jennings officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:30 P.M. until the service hour. In lieu of flowers the Family request contributions to any public library in Don’s memory. Mrs. Irene Hunter Bryant obit (R)

MRS. IRENE HUNTER BRYANT, age 77, of Marvin Avenue-Summerville, Georgia passed away Friday, March 9, 2012, morning in a Rome hospital.

Born in Copperhill, Tennessee, She was a daughter of the late Lester C. and Lena Hunter Ledford. Mrs. Bryant was Baptist by Faith, retired from Defenders Company, and was preceded in death by husband, Floyd Bryant, son, William Bryant, and daughter, Diane Bryant. Surviving are daughters-Brenda Johnson of Dalton, Linda Mauldin of Lawrenceville, Shirley Morgan of Center, AL, and Ann Corbett of Richmond, VA.; sons-Robert Bryant, Terry Bryant, Bobby Bryant, and Stoney Bryant all of Summerville; half sister-Ruth Hamby; brother-Kelley Edgeworth both of Summerville; special friend-Roy Durham; several Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 11th, at 3 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Wright officiating, Interment in Summerville Cemetery. Active Pallbearers, Tommy Slaughter, Christopher Phipps, Joe Phipps, Jeffery Bryant, Billy Bryant, Steven Bryant, and Jason Bryant.

Mrs. Shelia Christine Taylor obit (m)

Mrs. Shelia Christine Taylor , age 56, of Trion, GA died Thursday, March 8, 2012 at Shepherd Hills in LaFayette, GA.

Mrs. Taylor was born December 28, 1955 in Atlanta, GA, the daughter of Tommie Ruth Maddox Mullins and the late Doug Mullins. She was a homemaker. Other than her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Taylor.

Survivors include her children, Harold Taylor, James Allen Mullins, Tanya Chriswell, and Tessa O”Hara; mother, Johnnie Maddox; brother, Doug Mullins; sisters, Paula Lyle and Beverly Whitworth; and 5 Grandchildren.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 12:00 p. m. Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Taylor-Chriswell Cemetery with Rev. Tony Crowe officiating. Pallbearers will be Paul Maddox, Doug Mullins, Dave Lyle, David Chriswell, Harold Taylor, and David Whitworth.

Mr. Tommy Taylor Dye obit (m)

Mr. Tommy Taylor Dye, age 41, of Trion, GA died Thursday, March 8, 2012 at Emory University Hospital.

Mr. Dye was born October 15, 1970 in Rome, GA, the son of Glenda Unassee Lea Eden and the late Donald Wayne Dye. He had worked at Roper Corporation.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry Lanette Broyles Dye; son, Brody Dye; mother and step-father, Glenda and Steve Eden; sisters, Sarah Crabtree and Myra Eden; brothers, Matt Dye, James Eden, Jacob Eden, Josh Eden, Joe Eden, Daniel Eden, and Simon Eden.

Funeral services for Mr. Dye will be held at 2:00 p. m. Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Micah Gillespie and Rev. Malcom Harris officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kevin Whaley, Montag Choate, Chad Barnes, Cody Beene, Tracy Maddox, Scott Helton, Justin Ramey, and Gordon Lee Boyd. Mr.Herbert Kay H. K. Tucker Obit (EP)

Herbert Kay "H. K." Tucker age 87 passed away on the morning of March 5, 2012.

   H. K. was born to share croppers Herbert and Annie Tucker.  He was of youngest of 10 children.  He served his country throughout Europe with the 124th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion during World War II.  H. K. was a deacon at Pennville First Baptist Church for over 50 years.  H. K. worked in the insurance business, retail stores and he retired from Mount Vernon Textile Mill.

   H. K. is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, his parents, and 9 brothers and sisters.  H. K. is survived by his daughter, Juanita Binowski and her children, Joshua, Jamison, and Cristal Binowski, and his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Mark Binowski and their boys, Bo and Seth Binowski; and several nieces and nephews.

   Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, March 15, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. from the chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Dempsey and Rev. Kenneth Thrasher officiating.   Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens.

   H. K. will lie-in-state on Wednesday evening, March 14, 2012 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m.   In lieu of flowers the family asks that you honor H. K. by donating to Gideons International for Bible placement in hotels, jails, and etc.

 

Mrs. Clara Atkins Steele Obit (M)

Mrs. Clara Atkins Steele, age 90, of Menlo, GA died at her residence on Thursday, March 8, 2012.

Mrs. Steele was born March 29, 1921 in Summerville, GA, the daughter of the late Grover C. and Lillie Mae Hughes Atkins. She was a homemaker and a member of Faith Baptist Church. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roscoe Steele who died on March 4, 2012; a daughter, Nelda Jean Reynolds; and a brother, W. P. Atkins.

Mrs. Steele is survived by two grandchildren, Rita Snead and Robin Lemmings;great-grandchildren, Ryan David Gifford, Caitlin Danielle Gifford, Alyssa Nicole Lemmings, and Alexis Brianna Lemmings; son-in-law, Raymond Reynolds; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p. m. Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Wilborn and Rev. John Abercombie officiating. Burial will follow in Alpine Cemetery. Mrs. Marie Speer Obit (ER)

MRS. MARIE SPEER, age 57, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday morning in a Rome hospital.   A native Chattooga Countian, She was born to the late Doyle and Evelyn Boatner Yarbrough, on November 30, 1954.

Marie was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church, retired from Chattooga County D.F.C.S., and was preceded in death by her husband the late Steve Speer. Surviving are daughters & spouse, Lindsey Speer & Stacy Henderson of Summerville and Brittney (Colter) Sanford of Lyerly; grandchildren-Colton Daniel Sanford, Carlie Danielle Sanford, and Cason Bentley Sanford; mother-in-law-Martha Sue Speer of Summerville; sisters & spouses, Christine (Len) Chumbler of Gaylesville, AL. and Janice (Jimmy) Brown of Lawrenceville, GA; brothers & spouses, Duane (Debbie) Yarbrough of Lyerly and Byron (Kay) Yarbrough of Summerville; several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 10th, at 3:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Mr. David Eugene Hamby Obit (M)

Mr. David Eugene Hamby, age 61, of Lyerly, GA died Wednesday, March 07, 2012.

Mr. Hamby was born September 29, 1950 in Trion, GA, the son the late Cosby Frank and Hattie Foshee Hamby. He was a former truck driver. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Jean Tidmore.

Survivors include his children, Anthony and wife, Sandra Hamby, Steven Hamby, Pete Huggins, Tammy Hamby, Tamera Hamby, Crystal Wilson, and Stephanie Hamby; brothers, Sammy Hamby, John Tidmore, and Cosby Frank Hamby, JR; sister, Gladys Roam; and 10 Grandchildren.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 11:00 a. m. Friday, March 9, 2012 at Summerville Cemetery with Bro. Mr. Jack Jones Obit (Wilson-Ft.Payne)

Jack Eugene Jones, 93, of Mentone passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2012. Born in Live Oak, Florida to Harold G. Jones and Ida Green Jones, Jack moved to Miami as a child where he met Olive Searing in elementary school. The two married in September 1940. While attending the University of Florida, he served as student body secretary/treasurer, Sigma Chi, was in Blue Key Honor Society, served as head cheerleader, was elected to the UF Hall of Fame his senior year, and was the Southeastern Diving Champion in 1940. He graduated from UF when it was still an all-boys school. During WWII he served in the Army Air Corp as a 1st Lt. and developed Physical Rehabilitation programs across the nation. He was commissioned an honorary Colonel in 2002.

As a child, Jack came to Mentone, AL for summer camp. He later purchased Camp Cloudmont for Boys and ran summer camp there for over 30 years. In 1975, Jack built the Log Cabin Village in Mentone which is still in use today. He set into motion the Lookout Mountain Parkway Association and was very active in MAPA, the DeKalb Tourist Association, SAR, Rotary, American Legion, Alabama Mountain Lakes and was a director of Chattanooga Choo-Choo. He and Olive own Cloudmont Ski and Golf Resort and Shady Grove Dude Ranch, along with Valley View Ranch (which he later sold to his daughters). The movie Southern Heart was filmed on his property. He enjoyed sailboat racing, owned a small aircraft, and wrote two autobiographies. In his later years, he became a painter and recorded camp fire songs. He certainly lived a full life!

A funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 9th at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church with the burial following in the family cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4 until 7 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years Olive S. Jones, sons Oliver R. Jones and Gary W. Jones, and wife Cindy, daughters Nancy C. Jones, Marsha J. Hair and husband Douglas Sr., Janis J. Carrier, and Angela J. Wood, grandchildren Rebecca Miller and husband Marshall, Chelsea Manning and husband Garrett, Margaret Carrier, Douglas Hair, Jr., Lura Horton and husband Matt, Dena Jones, Nathan Jones, and Austin Jones, great-grandchildren Tyler Rowland, Jackson Drennan, and Cael and Renn Horton, nephews Harold (Barbara) Jones III and Kinsey (Sharon) Jones, nieces Joyce Francois, Kinsey (Jennifer) Jones Jr., and Kelly Schrader.

Mrs. Hazel Lee Luttrell Obit (M)

Mrs. Hazel Lee Luttrell, age 79, of Summerville, GA died Monday, March 5, 2012 at her residence.

Mrs. Luttrell was born March 20, 1932 in Trion, GA, the daughter of the late John William and Jean Cleo Wooten White. She was retired from Best Manufacturing. Mrs. Luttrell was a loyal wife, mother, and grandmother. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Clarence “Doc” Luttrell; a grandson, Don Ramey: and brothers, Lewis White and Hoyt White.

Survivors include a son, Ronald Luttrell; a daughter, Linda Johnson; a sister, Betty Jean Beardon; granddaughter, Tammy Wilson Westbrooks; great grandchildren, Kristen Wilson, Brad Edgeworth, and Tyler Wilson.
