Mr. Jerry Glenn Scott Obit (Willis)

MR. JERRY GLENN SCOTT – Of St. Petersburg, Florida and formerly of Summerville, Georgia passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2012. He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Leon Scott, Sr. and mother, Mrs. Willie Mae Scott Anthony; sister, Mrs. Annie E. Brown.

Survivors are, five loving and devoted children, three daughters, Mrs. Disica (Gregg) Lewis of Plainsville, Georgia, Mrs. Jerika Scott, and Ms. Casey Smith, both of St. Petersburg, Florida; two sons, Mr. Jared Scott of Calhoun, Georgia, and Mr. Cantrell Smith of St. Petersburg, Florida; five grandchildren, Isaiah Whittington, Faith Whittington, Jon’Nyia Hayes, Braylon Scott, and Keymauri Smith; son-in-law, Mr. Ronald Whittington of St. Petersburg, Florida; devoted sister, Mrs. Sheraldine (James) Miller; brother, Mr. Leon Scott, Jr.;  brother-in-law, Mr. Willam I. Brown of Summerville, Georgia; two stepsisters and five step brothers; special friends, Ms. Shirley Smith, Ms. Deborah Kennedy, Ms. Erin Sampson, Mr. Nevil Parker, Mr, Steve Dallas, Mr. Gene Rousaville, and Mr. Jamie Walker;  a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
 
Funeral Service will be Monday, March 5, 2012 at 2:00 p. m. at New Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Roach and other ministers officiating. His remains will lie in state on Monday at the church from 12:00 noon until the service.

Mr. Roscoe Alton Steele (M)

Mr. Roscoe Alton Steele, age 92 of Menlo, Georgia passed away Sunday, March 4, 2012 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Steele was born in Sallisaw, Oklahoma on August 10, 1919, son of the late Theodore Steele and Beulah Hawkins Steele. He attended the Faith Baptist Church and prior to retirement, was employed with Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Mill. In addition to his parents, Mr. Steele was preceded in death by his daughter, Nelda Jean Reynolds, 2 sisters, and 4 brothers.

Mr. Steele is survived by his wife, Clara Atkins Steele, Menlo; Brother, Leonard Steele, Rossville; sister, Thelma Lewis, Rossville; Grandchildren, Rita Snead and Robin Lemmings; Great Grandchildren, Ryan David Gifford, Caitlin Danielle Gifford, Alyssa Nicole Lemmings and Alexis Brianna Lemmings; son-in-law, Raymond Reynolds; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Steele will be held Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Wilborn and Rev. John Abercrombie officiating. Interment will follow in the Alpine Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dewayne Lewis, Arlon Wells, Melvin Steele, Ryan Gifford, Patrick Snead and David Reynolds. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ronnie Watkins, David Luther, Becky McWhorter, Hampton McWhorter, Albert Smith, Jr., Eddie Massey and Ernie Hester.

Mr. Steele will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 12:00 Noon until the funeral hour.

Mrs. Frances Nell Reed obit (M)

Mrs. Frances Nell Reed, age 75 of Trion, Georgia passed away Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Reed was born in Bridgeport, Alabama on November 14, 1936, daughter of the late Tommy Loyd and Rachel Smith Loyd. She loved her family more than anything else, but also enjoyed flowers and fishing. She always worked hard raising a garden and canning food. She was a great provider working hard and being very thrifty to make sure the needs of her family were met. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Reed was preceded in death by her husbands, Bob Gentry, Steve Townsend and Fred Reed; brothers, Joe Loyd and Charles Loyd; and a granddaughter, December Gentry.

Mrs. Reed is survived by her children and their spouses, Carl “Euts” and Jeannette Gentry, Lafayette, Barbara and Rickey Edwards, Gaylesville, Betty Jo and Jeff Edge of Trion, and Shirley Hines Bullard of Summerville; brother and sister-in- law, Willie “Bill” and Janice Loyd, Lafayette; sister, Edna and David Guinn, Trion; grandchildren, Gene Hartbarger, January Gable, Jeffery Edge, Jr., Betty Barfield, Bobby Hines, Rickey Hines, Chris Gentry and Bobbie Ballew; 10 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Reed will be held Monday, March 5, 2012 at 4:00 P.M. in the chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Martin and Rev. William Rich officiating. Interment will follow in the Wooten Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Gene Hartbarger, Chris Gentry, Jimmy Dale Westbrooks, Jeffery Edge, Jr., Darty McGuire, Jim Odum, Steve Collins and Zack Moore. Honorary Pallbearers will be Terry Green, Oland Summerall, Jeff Edge, Rickey Edwards, Glenn Bullard and Tommy Odum.

Mrs. Reed will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 until 8 P.M.

 

Mrs. Dessie Mae Gilbert obit (EP)

Mrs. Dessie Mae Gilbert, age 83 of Tunnel Hill, GA formerly of Summerville, GA passed away Thursday, March 1, 2012 at the residence of a daughter.  Mrs. Gilbert was born May 11, 1928 in Trion, GA  She was a homemaker and a member of the South Commerce Church of Christ.

   Mrs. Gilbert was preceded in death by husband, Lee Gilbert; father and mother, Henry and Julie McWhorter Little; sister, Nell McChalke; and brothers, Alfred Little, Walter Little, and Milton Little.
   Mrs. Gilbert is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and John Wilson of Tunnel Hill, GA and Jan and John Dempsey of Dalton, GA; granddaughter, Lindsay Wilson-Kokes of Morgantown, West Virginia; grandson, Paul Dempsey of Dalton, GA; great-granddaughter, Alexis Dempsey of Dalton, GA; sister,  Betty Palmour of Summerville, GA; nieces and nephews.

   Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 4, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. from the chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Minister Tommy Broome officiating.  Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens.   Mrs. Gilbert will lie-in-state on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M.    Pallbearers will be friends.

 

Mrs. Lois Avanell Wilson Campbell obit (TP)

Lois Avanell Wilson Campbell, age 79, of the Haywood Valley Road, Armuchee, GA, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, February 29, 2012, in a Rome hospital following a sudden illness.

Mrs. Campbell was born on December 29, 1932, in Summerville, GA, the daughter of the late Lester King Wilson and the late Irene Fountain Wilson. She was a homemaker, seamstress, as well as a loving caretaker for every member of the family. Mrs. Campbell was a long time member of Ebenezer Baptist Church where she served as a former church clerk.

Mrs. Campbell is survived by her husband, Earl Campbell, to whom she was married on August 5, 1950; a daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Eugene Arnold of Armuchee; granddaughters and spouses, Redonna and Scot Branton, Jessica and Kevin Mattox, Cyja King, of Armuchee, and Denise and Bob Wesson of Summerville; great-grandchildren, Brien Branton, Baylee Anell Branton and Cy King, of Armuchee; brother and sisters-in-law, Frank and Isabel Campbell, of Homer, GA, Mildred and Hap Tietjen, Plains, GA, Maxine Campbell of Armuchee. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Campbell will remain at Fred Talley’s Parkview Chapel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Saturday afternoon, March 3, 2012, from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m.

Funeral services for Mrs. Campbell will follow on Saturday afternoon, at 3:30 p.m. from the graveside of Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Rev. Clyde Wilson and Rev. Doug Mattox officiating. The funeral procession will leave the funeral home on Saturday afternoon at approximately 3:05 p.m.

Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home on Saturday afternoon by 2:15 p.m. and include Scot Branton, Brien Branton, Kevin Mattox, David Campbell, Wesley Campbell, Jody Campbell and Cy King.

The family will be at the home of the daughter and son-in-law on the Haywood Valley Road, Armuchee.

Mrs. Mildred Louise Parham Obit (EP)

 Mrs. Mildred Louise Parham, age 85 of Mountain View Road, Trion, GA passed away Wednesday, February 29, 2012 in Memorial Health Care.  Mrs. Parham was born on
November 12, 1926 in LaFayette, GA.  She was a Nurse’s Aid at the Trion Hospital and was a member of the Pennville Church of Christ. 
   Mrs. Parham was preceded in death by husband, David C. Parham; daughter, Anne Parham Barton; and father and mother, George Thomas Richardson and Hattie Jane Richardson.
   Mrs. Parham is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Loyd Pulliam of Trion, GA; grandsons and wives, David and Diane Jansen, Chris Jansen, and Troy and Juliet Barton all of Washington State, Chanda and Isdran Daniels Reyes of Calhoun, GA, and John and Connie Pulliam of Dalton, GA; 8 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
   Funeral services will be Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Minister Jim Husky officiaing.  Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens.
   Mrs. Parham will lie-in-state Friday, March 2, 2012 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M.

Miss Barbara June “Popsy” Phillips obit (EP)

Miss Barbara June "Potsy" Phillips, age 72 of Thomas Road, Trion, GA passed away Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at the residence of a sister.  Miss Phillips was born March 17, 1939 in Summerville, GA.  She was Baptist by faith.
   Miss Phillips was preceded in death by father and mother, Alfred "Ted" and Willie E. Phillips; sister, Mary Woody; brother, Alfred William Phillips; niece, Becky Brinkley; nephews, James Ray Wilbanks and Michael Woody; great-great nephew, Grant Taylor.
   Miss Phillips is survived by sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Bud Wilbanks, Betty and Bill Brinkley, and Marlene and Winston Renfroe all of Trion, GA; several nieces, great-nieces, nephews, and great nephews.
   Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. from the chapel of the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Brinkley and Rev. Jimmy Wilborn officiating.  Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens.

Mr. William Robert “Bill” Venn Obit (M)

Mr. William Robert “Bill” Venn, age 69 of Trion, Georgia passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at his residence.
Mr. Venn was born in Hart, Michigan on March 21, 1942, son of the late Frank and Florence Venn. He was an honor graduate of Boysville High School in Tecumseh, Michigan, and a veteran, having served in the United States Navy, and prior to retirement was employed as an electrician. Mr. Venn was preceded in death by his wife, Anita Holt Venn on July 15, 2011; brother, Frank Venn; and his childhood Guardian and brother-in-law, Ralph Sanford.
Mr. Venn is survived by a son, Thomas Venn of Trion; sisters, Nancy Sanford of South Bend, Indiana and Susan Shinberg of New York City; two grandchildren, Aaron Venn and Andrew Venn; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Venn will be held Sunday, March 4, 2012 at 4:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Rob Pierce officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.
