Annie Oglesby Bennett obit

MRS. ANNE OGLESBY BENNETT, age 79, of Martin Street-Summerville, Georgia passed away Tuesday afternoon, (September 28, 2010) in a Rome hospital. She was born on August 18, 1931, a daughter of the late James Hamilton and Arvie Ellie Hartman Oglesby. Mrs. Bennett was secretary for sixty one years for Bobby Lee Cook, attorney-at-law. Mrs. Bennett was preceded in death by her husband the late Archie B. Bennett on May 8, 1990, two brothers H. Lynn Oglesby and James Oglesby, one sister Juanita Oglesby Davis McCool.

Survivors include one daughter, Marthanne Bennett Casey of Oak Ridge, TN; three sons, Richard Lynn Bennett of Lawrenceville, GA ; Archie B. “Skip” Bennett, Jr. of Canton, GA and J. Michael Bennett of Summerville. Nine Grandchildren: Amanda Lynne Bennett Lanham, Laci Deah Bennett, Michael Lance Bennett, Joshua Charles Bennett, Michael Caleb Bennett, Matthew Ryan Bennett, Joseph Michael Bennett, Jeffery Alan Casey, II and William Bennett Casey. Three Great Grandchildren: Dominick Ladell Bennett, Drake Michael Hines and Roxanne Michelle Bennett. Several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 1, 2010 at 2:30 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Russell and Bobby Lee Cook officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Lance Bennett, Josh Bennett, Caleb Bennett, Kevin Scoggins, Matthew Bennett, Joey Bennett, Dominick Bennett, Curtis Lanham and Jeffery Casey. David Eugene Glass obit

MR. DAVID EUGENE GLASS, age 59, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Monday (September 27, 2010) in a Winchester, Tennessee hospital following an extended illness. A Trion, Georgia native He was born May 21, 1951 to Howard Glass and the late Frances Louise Crawford Glass. Mr. Glass was Church of God by Faith, formerly worked in the Security Department of Mt. Vernon Mills, and was in the U. S. Air Force, U.S. Army, and U.S. Army Reserve, serving in Viet Nam and Desert Storm. He was preceded in death by a son the late David Glass, Jr.

Surviving are His wife-Sherry Dee Glass; daughters-Shannon Lumley of Ames, Iowa and Ann Gruber of Cleveland, Tennessee, and Rebecca Sparks of Summerville; father-Howard Glass of Trion; sister-Elaine Miller of
Rome; brothers-Monroe Glass of Trion and Douglas Glass of FL.; Nine Grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Benjamin Lumley officiating, interment in Chattanooga National Cemetery. Active Pallbearers Jason Gray, Stanley Gray, Keith Gray, Bobby Brown, Curtis Brown and Bud Anderson. Honorary Pallbearers Luke Brown, Caleb Gruber, Nathan Lumley, Matthew Lumley, Sam Gruber, Brandon Sparks, Benjamin Lumley and Garrett Gruber. Paul Broome obit

MR. PAUL BROOME, age 88, of Espy Street-Summerville, Georgia passed away Tuesday (September 28, 2010) morning in the local nursing home. Mr. Broome was born in Fulton County, GA on January 10, 1922, a son of the late William Monroe and Ola Tinney Broome. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in World War II and was retired from Mt. Vernon-Riegel Mills. Mr. Broome was a member of Summerville First Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife Mattie Lee Broome of Summerville; One daughter Peggy Tucker of Rome; Three sisters, Lou Ellen Durham and Pauline Davis of Summerville and Inez Hardeman of Douglasville, GA. One brother Tommy Broome of Lyerly. Five Grandchildren and Twelve Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Dr. Kenneth Summey officiating, interment in West Hill Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Roland Tucker, Wayne Durham, Ranny Broome, Lamar Smith, Eddie Burke, Bill DeBerry, Brad Lee and Norman Gaither. Honorary Pallbearers will be Members of the Baraca Sunday School Class of Summerville First Baptist Church. Visitation will be at the Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 6:00 till 8:00 p.m.

Mrs. Evelyn Youngblood

Mrs. Evelyn Ethel Youngblood, age 95, of Summerville, GA died Friday, September 24, 2010 at Oakview Nursing Home.

Mrs. Youngblood was born January 1, 1915 in Summerville, GA, the daughter of the late Lester Norton and Ethel Kellett Norton. Mrs. Youngblood was a member of the Chapel Hill Baptist Church. She was retired from Harriet & Henderson Mills. Mrs. Youngblood was preceded in death by her husband, Austin Dewitt Youngblood and brothers Kelly Norton and L.W. Norton.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy & Cooley Dodd, son and daughter-in-law, Ted & Betty Youngblood, sister, Pauline Arp, 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.  

Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm Sunday, September 26, 2010 at the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Odom and Rev. Rodney Kinsey officiating. Burial will follow in Sumerville Cemetary.

Active pallbearers will be Eddie Young, David Hightower, Charles Barksdale, David Davis, Ken Anderson, Alfred Searles.

Mrs. Youngblood will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 1:00pm until the service on Sunday, September 26, 2010.

Mrs. Beatrice Horton League

Mrs. Beatrice Horton League age 92 of Centre AL went to meet the Lord Friday, September 24 at her residence.

Funeral services for Mrs. League will be 2: PM central time Sunday September 26th at Perry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Melvyn Salter and Dr. Jim Wright officiating. Internment will follow at West Hill Cemetery Trion, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 1: PM central time until the hour of service.

The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to Centre First Baptist Church R.O.C.

Surviving are two daughters: Shelby Bruce of Centre, Al, and Barbara (Ken) Robins of Russellville, AL, five grandchildren: Raymond (Dawne) Williams of Gadsden, AL, Tina (Jim) Floyd of Centre, AL, Rhonda (Phillip) Scott of Red Bay, AL, Brad (Donna) Harris of Adrian, IL, and Chris Harris of Maud, TX, 11-Great-Grandchildren and 5-Great-Great- Grandchildren.

Mrs. League was born in Haleyville, AL August 17, 1918, the daughter of the late Luther H and Sarah Canida Horton. Prior to moving to Centre, she and her late husband, Alvis L. League were long time residents of Trion, GA. She was retired from Mount Vernon Mills and a member of Centre First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Grace Kiser Johnson, age 70, of Cloudland, GA died Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Erlanger Medical Center.

Mrs. Johnson was born February 9, 1940 in Chickamauga, GA, the daughter of the late Bob Kiser, SR and Maurine Lee Kiser. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Johnson, and 3 sisters, Judy Hawkins, Carol Reichenbach, and Ruth "Sissy" Pless.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Tracy Johnson and William McKenzie; sister, Debbie Martin; brothers, Tommy Kiser and Bob Kiser; and a number of Nieces and Nephews.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Mt. Olive Cemetery with Rev. Kenny Roach officiating. Active pallbearers will be Lamar Canada, Larry Lynch, Yogi Hegwood, Tim Lindsey, Dusty Kiser, and William Benefield. Honorary pallbearers will be Jon Dennis, Eddie Hawkins, Greg Martin, Charles Hixon, Phil Key, Robbie Clifton, Bobby Travis, Timmy Lindsey, Barry Pless, Jeff Pless, and Scott Hammitt.

Graves T. Myers III obit

MR. GRAVES T. MYERS, III, age 90, of Hartwell, Georgia former longtime residence of Summerville passed away Wednesday (September 22, 2010) morning at his residence. A native of Summerville, Georgia Mr. Myers was born to the late Graves T. Myers, Jr. and Beatrice Thomas Myers on December 9, 1919. He was a member of the Summerville Presbyterian Church and was U.S. Air Force Officer Retiring in 1963 after some 24 years of service. Mr. Myers was preceded in death by a daughter the late Joyce Lynn Wood.

Surviving are His loving wife-Johnnie Mae Freeman Myers; son-Graves T. Myers, IV of Hartwell, GA.; former son-in-law-Don Wood of Severna Park, MD.; grandchildren-Andy Wood, Dr. Cindy Huffaker, Samuel Trenholm Myers, Elizabeth Manley; 6 Great Grandchildren; several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday (September 25th) at 11:00 A.M. from the Summerville Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jan Rhodes and Rev. Paul Bayerl officiating, interment in Trion Cemetery. Active Pallbearers Graves T. Myers, IV, Samuel Trenholm Myers, Andy Wood, Dodd Huffaker, and Ryan Gravley; Honorary Pallbearers Don Wood, Chris Manley, Jerry Robinson, and all other Nephews. Mr. George Elgin Blackmon, age 77, of Trion, GA passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at his residence.

Mr. Blackmon was born January 17, 1933 in Trion, GA the son of the late James Harper Blackmon, Sr. and Lily D. Ingram Blackmon. He was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills. Other than his parents, Mr. Blackmon was preceded in death by brothers, Alvin Blackmon, Thomas Blackmon, and Jr. Blackmon; brothers-in-law, Charles Walker Peppers and Chester Blackmon.

Survivors include his wife, Balma Faye Jenkins Blackmon; children, Karen Lynn Blackmon, George Lamar Blackmon, Jeffery Lorne and wife, Wendy Blackmon; sisters, Ruby Reed, Jeanette Peppers, Bonnie Blackmon, and Shirley Kiser; brothers, James Blackmon, Johnny Blackmon, Ricky Blackmon; grandchildren, Andrea Hixon, Shannon Schoenfeld, Megan Causey, Josh Blackmon, Shae Blackmon, Taylor Blackmon, Bryan Blackmon, Amber Blackmon, Kenny Hogue, Tyler Hogue; and great grandchildren, Chance Hixon, Garrett Schoenfeld, Cassidy Hixon, Gabrielle Schoenfeld, Kaden Causey, and Kara Causey.

Paul Everett Fisher Obit

Mr. Paul Everett Fisher, age 88, of Lyerly, GA died Monday, September 20, 2010 at his residence.

Mr. Fisher was born February 16, 1922 in Brownburg, Pennslyvania, the son of the late Harvey SR. and Bertha Slack Fisher. He was retired from Lavelle Aircraft Company. Mr. Fisher was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in WWII. He was a member of the American Legion Post #779. Mr. Fisher was preceded in death by sisters, Helen Firestine, Catherine Cals, and Pauline Fisher; brothers, Harvey Fisher, JR and Charles Fisher.

Survivors include his wife, Arline Fisher; son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Becky Hoagland, Lyerly, GA; grandchildren, Paul and Diana Hoagland and Dawn and Rodney Simmons; great- grandchildren, Danielle Hoagland, Jonathan Justice, and Stephanie Simmons,and step-great grandchildren, Brian Egenriether and Tammy Egenriether.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a. m. Thursday, September 23, 2010 at Mason Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until the service hour on Thursday.

MR. DAVID W. BRAMLETT, age 93, of Sloppy Floyd Lake Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday (September 19, 2010) afternoon at his residence. Born on September 10, 1917 in Chattooga County, Georgia, Mr. Bramlett was a son of the late James Wesley and Mary Burgess Bramlett. He was retired from the Supply Room of Mt. Vernon-Riegel Mills and was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years Inez Brown Bramlett, and siblings Mary Ellen Branlett Phillips, Julie Ann Bramlett Austin, Miles Bramlett, Farris Branlett, Calvin Bramlett, and Emmett Branlett, and 2 Nieces.

Surviving are daughter & son-in-law-Eleese & Ronald Blalock; son-Liburn Bramlett all of Summerville; sister- Beulah Kirby of Gadsden, AL; grandchildren-Sheron Padgett and Melissa Cummings; step grandchildren-Walter & Allen Clark; several Great grandchildren, Great Great Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews also survive.
