Mrs. Jannie L. Thomas McWhorter Obit

MRS. JANNIE L. THOMAS McWHORTER, age 89, of West Hall’s Valley Road-Trion, Georgia passed away Saturday, May 22, 2010, in the local nursing home. A native of Walker County, Georgia, She was born to the late Jerry Elbert and Bessie Stowe Thomas on June 7, 1920. Mrs. McWhorter was a homemaker , member of Pleasant Grove Church of Christ, and was preceded in death by her husband the late Homer Dean McWhorter and siblings Martha Horn, Rolland Thomas, Billy Thomas, Gene Thomas, Joel “Dub” Thomas, and Jerry Thomas.

Surviving are two daughters and son-in-law-Pat Campbell of Trion and Linda and Benny Sprayberry of Summerville; six grandchildren-Lori McCloure, Kevin Sprayberry, Alan Campbell, Karen Sprayberry Teague, Kim Nickolson, and Betsy Fisher; 18 Great Grandchildren; sister-Ressie Howell of Summerville; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 24th, at 4:30 P.M. from Graveside in West Hill Cemetery at Trion, Georgia with Minister Hugh Glaze officiating. Active Pallbearers-Alan Campbell, Curry McCloure, Cliff Fisher, Kevin Sprayberry, Jesse Teague, and Chris Nickolson; Honorary Pallbearers-Staff of Oak View Nursing and Rehab. Center. Visitation will be Monday, May 24th, from 2 until 4 P.M. at the Funeral Home.

Mr.Rady Lamar Green Obit

MR. RADY LAMAR GREEN, age 63, of Smith Rail Road-Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday (May 23, 2010) in a Rome hospital. Mr. Green was born in Chattooga County, Georgia on September 14, 1946 to the late Leonard Green and Lois Dover Green who survives. He was a member of Berryton Baptist Church and was owner of Green Construction Company, and was preceded in death by a son the late Joey Green June 15, 1998.

Surviving are wife-Terresa Shipp Green; mother-Lois Green of Summerville; son-Marty Green of Summerville; sisters-Betty Pope of Menlo, Nancy Crider , Charlotte Woody, and Sadie Croy all of Summerville; Grand daughter-Marti Green; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 25th, at 2:00 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Rutledge officiating, interment in Perennial Springs Cemetery. Ethel Ruth Bowers obit

Mrs. Ethel Ruth Bowers, age 79, of Summerville, GA died Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at her home.

Mrs. Bowers was born January 10, 1931 in Ashville, Al, the daughter of the late Shamblin and Agnes O’donnell Tucker. She was retired from Riegel Textile and was a member of the Perennial Springs Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Troy Pope; and a son, Pete Davis.

Survivors include her husband, Frank Bowers; sons and daughter-in-law, David Davis, Trion, GA, Terry & Jean Pope, Trion, GA, Jimmy Pope, Summerville, GA; step-daughter and husband, Carolyn and Charles Duke, Summerville, GA; step-son, Wayne Pope, brother, Donald Tucker, Arizona; sisters, Betty Joyce Tucker and Ann Young, Summerville, GA, Dorothy Harrelson, Alabama, Bonnie Spears, Trion, GA, Peggy Doherty, Alabama; grandchildren, Chera Allison, Holly Ivester, Lynn Pope, Donnie Pope; step-grand-children, Dawn Anderson, Ross Powell, and Bryan Powell; 7 Great Grandchildren; 5 Step Great Grandchildren; and 3 Step Great Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Friday, May 21, 2010 at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Josh Hollifield and Rev. Alton Stamey officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens. Larry Robert Gideon obit

 

Mr. Larry Robert Gideon, age 38, of Rome, GA died Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at Floyd Medical Center.

Mr. Gideon was born June 16, 1971 in Joplin, Missouri, the son of James Robert Gideon and Carolyn Rebecca Clark Gideon. He was employed with North West Regional Hospital. He liked to play pool and fish.

Survivors include his mother, Carolyn Gideon, Rome, GA; father and step-mother, Bob and Shirley Gideon, Carterville, Missouri; step-sister and husband, Beth and Terry Collins, Springfield, Missouri; grandmother, Doris Morgan, Rome, GA; aunt and uncle, Jane and Tom Blackman, Trion, GA; uncle, Roy Clark, Jr. and his wife, Toni, of Atlanta, GA; niece, Emily Collins; and nephew, Aaron Collins.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p. m. Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin J. Norton officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Massengill, Michael Heath, Rick Compton, Kyle Heath, Terry Wanzer, and Ben Holt.

Mr. Gideon will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 2:00 p. m. until the service hour on Thursday.

McClellan Obit

Mr. Benjamin Marlowe McClellan 47, of Halls Valley Road Trion passed away on Monday in Hutcheson Medical Center.  He was a Utility Worker with Mt. Vernon Mills and was a member of the Spring Creek Baptist Church. He was born on April 6th , 1963 in Trion, the son of the late James Henry McClellan and Sue Churchwell McClellan.  he was  preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Glenn McClellan.. He is survived by sisters, Diana Ford of Rome, and Linda Huskey of Cloudland, nieces and husband, Linda and Matt Lee and Mary McClellan of Trion, nephews and wives, Mike and Kelly McClellan of Georgetown, KY and Mark and Michelle Floyd of Cartersville. cousin and wife Rev. Roger Hartline and Lisa  of Pisgah, Mississippi…a daughter Hannah Hancock  of Trion, 7 great nieces and nephews also survived. A memorial service will be held on Friday at 2Pm from the chapel of the Erwin Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Johnson officiating. Claudia Alene McConkey obit

Mrs. Claudia Alene McConkey, Age 89, of Chattanooga, TN formerly of Summerville, GA, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2010, in a Chattanooga Hospital. 

 A native of Trion, Mrs. McConkey was born to the late Charles Gordon and Dollie Payton Lane.  She was a member of South Commerce Church of Christ, retired from Best Mfg. Co. in Menlo, and was preceded in death by her husband the late William L. R. McConkey on Oct. 3, 1995.

Surviving are daughters- Claudia Keeney of Chattanooga, TN  and Neena Smith of Harrison, TN.; son -Roger McConkey of Rome, GA; sister- Mildred Wilkerson of Trion, GA; brothers- Robert Lane of Summerville, GA and Clarence Lane of Henagar, AL;  4- Grandchildren and 4- Great Grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Ms. Daphine Hammitt Obit

Mrs. Daphine Williams Hammitt, age 84, of Summerville, passed away Friday, May 14, 2010 at her residence.

Mrs. Hammitt was born in Trion, Georgia on March 16, 1926, daughter of the late Charlie Williams and Martha Gass Williams. She was a member of the East Trion Church of God and prior to retirement was employed with Reigel Textile in the Weave Room. Mrs. Hammitt was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Holland Hammitt, brothers, James Williams, Melvin Williams, Gene-Mack Williams, Forest Williams and a sister, Annie Lee Howard.

Mrs. Hammitt is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Brenda Hammitt; Grandson, Brian Hammitt and his wife, Robin; Granddaughter, Jennifer Prince and her husband, John; a sister, Betty Duckett; five great grandchildren, Gracee Prince, Lora Rollins, Justin Hammitt, Kaitlyn Hammitt and Jacob Hammitt; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Hammitt will be held Monday, May 17, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. in the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Chasteen and Rev. Fred Mercer officiating. Interment will follow in the Green Hills Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be John Prince, Tim Carter, Randy Brooks, Michael McBride, Robert Williams, Justin Hammitt and Jacob Hammitt.

Fred R Raines Jr obit

Mr. Fred R Raines, Jr. known to his family and friends as "Junior", passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Raines was born in Calhoun, GA on November 2, 1941, son of the late Fred Roe Raines, Sr. and Ruth Stamey Raines.  He attended the Calhoun High School and was a member of the South Calhoun Baptist Church.  Prior to his retirement, Mr. Raines had been an assistant funeral director at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home in Calhoun, GA.

Mr. Raines is survived by many cousins and friends.

Memorial services for Mr. Raines will be held Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 2pm in the New Beginnings Baptist Church. Friends will give eulogies.

Mrs. Nellie Lucille Everett, age 66 of Summerville, GA, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at Redmond Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Everett was born October 20, 1943 in LaFayette, GA, daughter of the late James Thomas Starkey and Lula Mae Potts Starkey. Mrs. Everett was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her brothers, Steven Starkey, Doyle Starkey, and Clarence Starkey, sisters, Ailene Hill, and Louise Stinson.

Mrs. Everett is survived by her husband, John Terry Everett, Sons and Daughters-in-law, John W. and Tracy Everett, and Thomas W. and Lyn Everett, brother, Roy J. Starkey, grandchildren, Meagan Everett, Savannah Everett, Mason Everett, Adam Everett, and Abby Everett. Funeral Services for Mrs. Everett will be held Friday, May 14, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. in the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Harold Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

Arthur Bernice “Curly” Scoggins obit

Mr. Arthur Bernice "Curly" Scoggins, age 82 of East Armuchee Rd, Summerville, GA.  passed away Monday, May 10, 2010 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Scoggins was born June 4, 1927 to the late Arthur Eugene and Grace Smith Scoggins.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Annie Mae Scoggins; brother, Calvin Scoggins, Bill Scoggins, Delaney Scoggins, Howard Scoggins, Harold Scoggins, and Jessie Ralph Scoggins; Sister, Julie Mae Buice.

Mr. Scoggins was retired from Riegel Textile Corporation as an Inspector in the Packing Dept. and was a member of the Subligna Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Charlene Sumner Scoggins of Subligna, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Harold Callan of Subligna, GA; GrandsonGene Callan and Corey Callan of Subligna, Ga and Delvin Crider and Casey Crider of Trion, GA; granddaughter, Cassie Crider of Trion, GA; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 2:00pm from the Subligna Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Bishop and Rev. Larry Scoggins officiating.  Interment will follow in Sublinga Cemetary.

Mr. Scoggins will lie-in-state, Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 pm.  Mr. Scoggins will also lie-in-state, Thursday, May 13,2010 at the Sublinga Baptist Church from 1:00pm until the hour of service.

Pallbearers will be Corey Callan, Gene Callan, Tony Scoggins, Dale Scoggins, Kevin Scoggins, Johnny Scoggins, and Donnie Scoggins.  Honorary Pallbearers will be the Senoir Citizens of Sublinga Baptist Church.
