Steven White Obit

Mr. Steve Preston "Peabody" White, age 56,of Summerville, GA died Thursday, October 29, 2009 from injuries received in an automobile accident. Mr. White was born August 28, 1953, the son of Charles White and the late Evelyn Rodgers White. He was a self employed dry wall installer. Mr. White is survived by his daughter, Kasey White; father and step mother, Charles and Mary Jo White; brothers, Noland White, Dale White, Lowell White, and Roger White; grandchildren, Alex Navarro, Niko Navarro, and Omar Perez; step-brother, Phillip Kirby; step sisters, Phyllis Elrod, Mary Nell Fowler, and Sandy Ball. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday November 2, 2009 from the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert Jarrels, Cory Quarles, Michael White, Phil Gurley, Jeff White, and Shane Elrod. Mr. White will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday November 1, 2009.

 

Mrs. Kay Merritt Willingham

Mrs. Kay Merritt Willingham, age 50, of Shinbone Valley Community died Friday, October 30, 2009 at Redmond Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Willingham was born September 29, 1959 in Chickamauga, GA, the daughter of the late
Lebron Cecil and Tharon Crowder Merritt. She was a member of the Elizabeth Lee United
Methodist Church in Chickamauga, GA. Mrs. Willingham was employed for 17 years at SyntheticIndustries as an I. T. Supervisor and worked for the past 5 years in the Optics Lab at Hays StatePrison.
 She was a member of the American Quarterhorse Association. She and her husband also owned and operated Shinbone Valley Quarter Horses. She graduated from Gordon Lee High School and Dalton College.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Alan Lee Merritt.
Survivors include her husband, Gary Willingham, to whom she was married on December 21, 2001; step-daughter and husband, Angie and Tony White, Lyerly, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Carole and Mike Pinion, West Armuchee, GA; step-grandchildren, Emma White and Zach White; niece and husband, Erin and Chad Roberts; great nieces, Kenley Roberts and Presley Roberts.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p. m. Sunday, November 1, 2009 at the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Rev. Todd Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Ami Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Ronald Merritt, Robert Merritt, Richard Norris, Jeff Mullis, Matthew Willingham, and Richard White. Honorary pallbearers will be the Ladies of GCI Optics Lab at Hayes State Prison.
Mrs. Willingham will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from4:00 until 8:00 p. m. on Saturday, October 31, 2009.

Mr. Fred L. Bloodworth, Sr.

Mr. Fred L. Bloodworth, Sr., age 81, of Holland, Michigan, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2009 in Holland, Michigan, in Holland Hospital.  Mr. Bloodworth was a veteran of the United States Marines and the United States Navy, having served in the Korean War.  He was a lifetime member of the VFW 2144 and a member of the Moose Lodge on South River in Holland, Michigan.

Survivors are his children, Fred Bloodworth, Jr., of Holland, MI, Tom Bloodworth of Jenison, MI, Mary and Rich Adloff of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Linda, Fred III, Josh, Steve, Michael and Jennifer; and 4 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Monday, November 2, 2009 at 3pm from the West Hill Cemetery.Visitation will be held Monday, November 2nd at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2 until 3pm.

Mrs. Olene G. Head

Mrs. Olene Gillespie Head, age 78, of Summerville, passed away Monday, October 26, 2009 at Floyd Medical Center.

 Mrs. Head was born in Henegar, Alabama on November 9, 1930, daughter of the late Jasper Gillespie and Lydia Bell Gillespie. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter # 434, serving as Past Worthy Matron, and prior to retirement, was employed with Mt. Vernon Mills. Mrs. Head was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Mrs. Head is survived by her husband, Herbert Head; Son, Mike Head (Laura Stephenson); daughter, Susan Head Evans (John Evans); Brothers, Odis Gillespie and Nolan Gillespie; Sister, Mabel Gillespie Dukes; three Grandchildren, Joseph, Noah and Gracie Evans, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Head will be held Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. in the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Dees and Brother Terry Hurley officiating. Interment will follow in the Summerville Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John Head, Edward Head, Tim Collett, Tim Gillespie, Steve Gillespie, Mark Culpepper, Carl Gillespie and Rodney Culpepper. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Eastern Star Chapter 434.

Mrs. Mary Alice Brooks, 84 of 163 Woods Street, Summerville passed away Sunday the 25th in Erlanger Medical Center.  Mrs. Brooks was born October 4th 1925 in Chattooga County . She was a home maker and a member of West Summerville Baptist Church.  Ms. Brooks was preceded in death by her father and mother, Chiles and Ludy Bandy Brown, sons Edward Striker, Preston Brooks , Max Brooks, Sisters Elizabeth Brown, Isadora Reynolds, Mozelle Houston, brothers D.C. Brown, Jeff Brown, Paulie Brown, and Frank Brown..Survivors include her husband of 65 years, George W. Brooks of Summerville, son and daughter in law, Phillip and Kathi Brooks of Lyerly, daughters, Jeanne . and J.D. Rape and Peggy . and Tim Cordell of Trion, grandsons and wife Damien Brooks, Shane Cordell, Blake Cordell, Trace and Belinda Cordell, great grandson, Mason Wade, brother, Wilburn Brown of Menlo, sister Jane Adams of LaFayette, several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11AM from the chapel of Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Miss Suzanne Bryson age 50 , passed away on Sunday October 25th at Oakview Nursing Home, She was Baptist by faith, Suzie was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Lee and Nell Bryson.  Survivors include several cousins.  Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday October 27th at 4PM from the chapel of Erwin Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Mr. Carl Alexander McKenzie 89 of 71 6th street Trion passed away on Saturday, October 24th at Redmond Regional Medical Center.  He was born December 7th 1919 in Chattooga County to the late Taylor and Mary Smallwood McKenzie.  He was retired from Mt. Vernon Reigel Textile and was a member of the Quarter Century Club, Trion 1st Baptist Church and Senior Nutrition Center, He was preceded in death by his wife Ollie Mae Tillery McKenzie, special friend Sarah Ward, 4 brothers, Conley, James, Lee Gene and Marion McKenzie.

Survivors include sister, Thelma Jones, Trion, step-daughter, Opal Sprayberry, Trion, 2 step-grandsons, Ricky Sprayberry, Summerville And Ronnie Sprayberry Virginia, plus several nieces and nephews also survive.  Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday October 27th at 2PM from the Chapel of Erwin Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Runyan Obit

MR. BOB RUNYAN, age 77, of Givens Street-Summerville, Georgia passed away Sunday (October 25, 2009) morning in a LaFayette health care. A native of Chattanooga, Tennessee He was born to the late Roscoe and Hassie Murphy Runyan on January 1, 1932. Mr. Runyan was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U. S. Navy and retired from the carding department of Harriett-Henderson Mill. He was preceded in death by his wife the late Hazel Idell Monroe Runyan on January 3, 2009.

Surviving are daughter-Debra Ponder of Summerville; step son-Rodger Swanson of Fyffe, Alabama; grandchildren-Dustin & Elizabeth Ponder, Steven Swanson, Chris Swanson, and Marsha Swanson; 6 Great Grandchildren; sister-Jeanette Thomas of Chattanooga, TN.; Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday (October 28th) at 1:30 P.M. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Odom officiating, interment in Greenhills Memory Garden. Honorary Pallbearers Nurses & Staff of Heritage Health Care of LaFayette. Mr. Louis Andrew Carter, age 80 of West Hall Valley Road in Trion passed away Thursday in Redmond Regional Medical Center.  Mr. Carter was born in Floyd County on April 16, 1929..

Mr. Carter was retired from Northwest Regional Hospital after 34 years of service and was a member of the Floyd Springs Baptist Church and the McDonald’s breakfast Club.  He was preceded in death by his father and mother James and Rosa Callie Neal Carter, brothers Dennis Heulett, Ewell , Ralph and Odell Carter, Sisters Lela Belle Young and Bessie Carter. 

He is survived by his wife Rozella, Rose Lee Howell Carter of Trion, daughter, Patricia Stillwell of Guntersville, son Gregory Carter of Rome and Chris Ray of Rome, brother B.W. Carter of Chickamauga, sisters Mary Frances Dutton of Shannon and Betty Sue Hayes of Calhoun, grandchildren Melissa Hooper, Amanda Carter, Cassie Cowart , Darryl Hunter, Aaron Stillwell, Ashton Ray and Caroline Ray, 7 great grandchildren several nieces and nephews also survive..

Miss Lois Lee Housch

Miss Lois Lee Housch, age 85, of Back Penn Road, Summerville, GA, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2009 in Oakview Nursing & Rehab Center.  Miss Housch was born December 6, 1923 in Chattooga County GA.  She was retired from Riegel Textile Corporation, a graduate of Summerville High School and Edmonson Business College.  Miss Housch was a member of the Trion United Methodist Church where she served as church organist and was a member of the Love Joy Circle.Miss Housch was preceded in death by her father and mother, John Archie and Grace Doster Housch; sisters, Zilpha Bankey and Ruby Packer; brothers, Ralph, Roy, Elbert and Doster Housch.Miss Housch is survived by a sister, Frances Housch of Summerville, GA and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Nell Housch of Tucker, GA; several nieces and nephews also survived.Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 11am from the Trion United Methodist Church with Rev. Rob Pierce, Rev. Art Graves and Rev.
