Ms. Mary Dendy Baker age 82 of Summerville, GA passed away August 15, 2023 at her residence.

Ms. Baker was born November 9, 1940 in Summerville, GA to the late Daniel and Estelle Williams Dendy. She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed bicycling, walking, exercising, and helping the under privileged.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her brother, Gordon Dendy; and son-n-law, Johnny Ellenburg.

Survivors include her children, Thomas (Debbie) Baker, Jason (Lacey) Baker, and Deborah (Jim) Cleveland; grandchildren, Emily Costolnick, Justin Baker, Shelby Baker, Olivia baker, and Colton Baker; and great-grandchildren Shophi Taylor, Tyler Costolnick, and Sloan Baker.

James Steven Eden, Obit (M)

Mr. James Steven Eden, age 43, of Lyerly, GA, died Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at his residence.

Mr. Eden was born January 30, 1980, in Rome, GA, son of John Steven and Glenda Lea Eden. He was a member of Connect City Church and had previously been employed with Mount Vernon Mills. James was a professional wrestler for 16 years as “The Shooter Jimmy James,” “HCP,” and “Brothers Eden” with the Southern Wrestling League. He excelled in sports in his youth and was an avid football fan, especially of the Alabama Crimson Tide. He also loved Atlanta Braves Baseball.

Mr. Eden was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James Harry and Ruby Jane Eden; maternal grandparents, Robert Elbert and Unasee Inez Lea; a brother, Tommy Dye; and a nephew, Elijah Job Eden.

Survivors include his parents, John Steven and Glenda Lea Eden; son, Cole Eden; step-son, Robert Dooley; brothers, Matthew Dye, Jacob (Casey) Eden, Joe (Angel) Eden, Josh (Courtney) Eden, Daniel (Michelle) Eden; Simon (Courtney) Eden; sisters, Sarah (Pete) Crabtree, Myra (Dustin) Baker; sister-in-law, Sherry Cook; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; aunts, Alvie Lea, Carole Ramey, and Sylvia Eden.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 18, 2023, at Connect City Church with Pastor Jared Pickard, Rev. Larry Reynolds, Rev. Paul Martin, and Rev. Chad Powell officiating. Interment will follow in Union Hill “Needmore” Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Dylan Williamson, T.J. Helton, Chad Powell, Josh Pegg, Michael Helms, and Payton Williamson. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Bryant, Justin Ramey, Tevin Ramey, Travis Jackson, Ronnie Boyd, Michael Jackson, his church family and Connect City, and all of his wrestling friends.

Mr. Eden will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Thursday.

Mrs. Terri Lee Taylor Hoff, Obit (Henderson&Sons)

Mrs. Terri Lee Taylor Hoff, age 67, of Summerville, Georgia, passed away on August 14, 2023, at her home.

Terri was born in Alliance, Ohio on September 5, 1955, daughter of the late Bernard Willard Taylor and the late Mildred May Martin Taylor. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Haven Ackly.  Terri worked at the Pentagon as a younger woman and spent most of her younger years raising kids till the family settled in the Armuchee /Rome area where she worked at Harbin Clinic with the Behavioral Science department until her retirement. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and she will be missed by all.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Hoff, to whom he was married 46 years; daughter, Andi Hoff (Bronze); son, Nathan Hoff (Rachel); granddaughters, Clarissa Barrett, Emma Barrett, and Kayley Shepherd; grandsons, Anson Hoff, Braylon Jillson, and Dayden Agan; sister, Janice and Tom Williams; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at 6:00 pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel. The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, on Thursday, August 17, 2023, from 4:00pm until 5:45pm.

Mrs. Linda Sue Bolton, age 79, of Lyerly, GA, passed away Monday, August 14, 2023, at her residence.

Mrs. Bolton was born October 14, 1943, in Trion, GA, daughter of the late Arnold and Wood Ruby Sibert. She was Baptist by faith, and prior to her retirement, was employed with Mount Vernon Mills.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bolton was preceded in death by her husband, James Bolton; step-father, Archie Sibert; brother, Jessie Wood; and granddaughter, Amber Wright.

Survivors include sons, Dennis (Patricia) Bolton, Carl Bolton; a daughter, Sheila Barnett; sisters, Debbie (Jim) Crabb, Vickie Walker; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, August 17, 2023, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin J. Norton officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Jim Crabb, Chris Zanzig, Austin Falk, Byron Pena, John Stanley, and Adam Burnette.

Ms. Jennifer Nicole Whitt Rosson age 37 of Summerville, GA passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at a Rome, GA hospital.

Ms. Rosson was born August 15, 1985 in Fort Oglethorpe, GA to Kimberly Whitt Southerland. She was a member of, and was baptized at Freedom Tabernacle and was employed at George Kwiks. Ms. Rosson was a natural caregiver and loved art, music, and drawing. She also enjoyed cooking, working jigsaw puzzles, and watching true crime documentaries.

Ms. Rosson was preceded in death by her grandmother, Sandra Gill; and grandfather, Charles Brooks.

Survivors include her mother and step-father, Kim (Mark) Southerland; companion, Greg Day; daughters, Ansley Robinson, Haley Chamlee, and Audrey Whitt; brothers, Andy “Hildy” (Candace) Williams and Austin Southerland; step-grandfather Ralph Southerland; and several extended family members.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Ms. Rosson will take place at 2:00 Monday, August 14, 2023 at the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Bro. Andy Coker officiating. Mrs. Margaret Caloway Edwards, age 87 of Trion, GA passed away Friday, August 11, 2023 at her residence.

Mrs. Edwards was born December 22, 1935 in Cherokee County, AL to the late William and Opal Wilson Caloway. She was of the Baptist faith and a loving mother and homemaker.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, William Edwards, Sr.; daughters, Peggy Green and Patricia Hake; along with several siblings.

Survivors include her children, William (Karen) Edwards, Jr. and Tammy (Robert) Martin; 1 sister; 10 grandchildren; several great- and great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Odell Hammett, Obit (M)

Mr. Odell Hammett, age 86, of Gaylesville, AL, passed peacefully with his family around him on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at Atrium Health Floyd.

Mr. Hammett was born January 20, 1937, in Cherokee County, AL, son of the late Milus and Estelle Hammett. He was a member of New Hope Independent Church and was a farmer. Mr. Hammett was the original owner and operator of the Menlo Restaurant and Burger Shack in Centre, Rainsville, and Summerville. He was also the developer of Island Subdivision and Ball Play Creek Subdivision, Cedar Bluff. Mr. Hammett loved to coon hunt and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Milus Odell “Dale” Hammett, Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Crowe Hammett; daughter, Cindy (Billy Don) DeBerry; son, Jeffrey (Kim) Hammett; sisters, Faye (George) Wood, Colleen (Franklin) Early; grandchildren, Katlin (Andrew) Lindsey, Sydney (Josh) Sanford, Lauren (DaKota) Lambert, Trey DeBerry, Emily DeBerry, Jon Hammett, Meagan (Richard) Rubright, Josh (Lauren) Cannon; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside and interment services will be held at 11:00 A.M. (GA Time) Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Alpine Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Hammett officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons and include Trey DeBerry, Jon Hammett, Josh Cannon, Richard RuBright, Josh Sanford, Andrew Lindsey, DaKota Lambert, and Jimmy Early.

There will be no visitation.

Mrs. Linda Gail Short Hazlewood age 57 of Gaylesville, AL was completely healed of cancer Sunday, August 6, 2023, and is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Mrs. Hazelwood was born a true coal miner’s daughter April 8, 1966 in Middlesboro, KY to the late Charles and Ruby Barnett Short. She was employed by Compassus Hospice and enjoyed farming with her husband Steve, southern cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren and family. She loved living life to the fullest and faithfully serving the Lord and sharing her love and her faith with others.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her father & mother-in-laws, Rev. William D. and Phyllis Buell Hazlewood; brother-in-law, Levi Shackelford, and her sister-in-law, Alberta Short.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Steven Hazlewood; son, Matthew Hazlewood; daughters, Kimberly Gilbert and Kayla (Joshua) Hester; siblings, Randle (Joyce) Short, Carl (Brenda) Short, Devauda (Dana) Mullins, Ruby (James) Parker, Wanda Shackelford, Bartie (W.K.) Sampson, and Roberta Arnett; 6 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mrs. Canada was born September 1, 1933 in Jamestown, AL to the late Milton and Nora Lewis Pearsey. She was retired from Mohawk Industries and was a lifelong member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. She loved her family, flower gardening, and cooking.
Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Auburn Canada; sons, Gary & Ricky Canada; along with several siblings.

Survivors include sons, Timothy (Karen) Canada, and Jerry (Karen) Canada; daughters, Diane (Paul) Reynolds, and Nancy Buckhead; brother, Kenneth Pearsey; sister, Joan McKelvey; 12 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Rutledge was born December 7, 1942, in Chattoogaville, GA, daughter of the late Hugh L. and Eva Parkison Fleming. She was a faithful member of Bible Mission Christian Center, and prior to her retirement, was employed with Century Glove.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rutledge was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, Rev. Jerry Rutledge; son, Greg Rutledge; brothers, Bobby Fleming, Junior Fleming, and James Fleming; sister, Dot McLemore; granddaughter, Ashley Rutledge; great-granddaughters, Shayla Rutledge and Kendall Rutledge; and son-in-law, Lamar Millican.

Survivors include her sons, Donny Rutledge (Mary Ann Blackwell), James (Jennifer) Rutledge, Jonathan Rutledge, and Jason Rutledge; a daughter, Pam Millican; sister-in-law, Mary (Robert) Hughes; daughter-in-law, Cindy Jaye; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
