Becky Hoglund, Obit (ER)

MS. BECKY HOGLUND, age 70, of Trion, Georgia, passed away at her residence, on January 6, 2022, to walk the streets of gold with the angels. She was born in Abilene, Texas on November 13, 1952, a daughter of the late Grant and Naomi Tedder Davison.

Surviving are children, Stefan Hoglund, Heather Breese, Matt Breese, and Wendy Hoglund; grandchildren, Cody Keen, Carly Wigley, and Sydnie Hoglund; great grandchildren, Sophia Keen, Raelyn Keen, and Harrison White; sister, Gartrelle Warnock; borther, Rick Davison; aunt, Pat Stanley.

A Memorial service will be Saturday, January 14th, at 11:30 A.M. from the Pleasant Grove Church of Christ with Ministers Hugh Glaze and Tommy O’Kelley officiating. Honorary Pallbearers are Jared Wigley, Tanner White, Alan Baggett, Jim Warnock, Pat Tumisky, and Charles Tumisky. Flowers are excepted at the service or contributions to ALS research, in Becky’s memory.

Gene Talmadge Kirby, Obit (W)

MR. GENE TALMADGE KIRBY – AGE 80, – Of Summerville, Georgia passed away Thursday, January 5, 2023. He was born on March 9, 1942 to the late James Henry Kirby, Sr. and Inez Ware Kirby. He was preceded by his son, Gordon Eugene Kirby, and brother, George Kirby. He was a life member of Oak Hill Baptist Church and he retired from Storey Lumber Company.

Survivors are his loving and devoted wife of sixty years, Nancy Louise Allen Kirby of Summerville, Georgia; two sons, Phillip Lee Kirby and Darryl (Vickie) Jett; grandchildren, Danarius Kirby, Darryl Jett, Jr., and Nicholas Jett; sisters, Jessie Jene Bankston, Charlotte Ellison; brothers, James Kirby, Jr. “Big Jack,” Roger (Barbara) Kirby, Fred Kirby, Ted Kirby; aunts; uncles; favorite nieces, Tonia Wilburn, Cynthia Kirby; concern special friends, Michelle and Jim Allie, Rev. Melvin and Betty Mosley, Stacie (Jeremy) Scoggins – Marshall; other loving nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.

Homegoing Service will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 2:00 P. M. at Oak Hill Baptist Church, 265 Oak Hill Road, Summerville, Georgia 30747, with Pastor Melvin Mosley as Eulogist, and Pastor George Beavers.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service. Interment, Oak Hill Cemetery.

Linda Darlene Broome, Obit (ER)

MRS. LINDA DARLENE BROOME, age 73, of East Armuchee Road-LaFayette, Georgia passed away Monday, January 9, 2023, in a Dalton hospital. A native of Chattooga County, Georgia she was born May 23, 1949 to the late Arthur Teems, Jr. and Isadora Brown Teems. Mrs. Broome was a member of the East Armuchee Baptist Church and was formerly a financial officer for Shaw Industries and later a para professional for Whitfield County School system.

Surviving are Her husband, Jack Broome; daughters, Chrystal Jackson, Celest Richards, and Cauprice Clance; grandchildren, Haven Clance, Atticus Clance, and Landry Richards; several Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 12th, at 2:00 P.M. from the East Armuchee Baptist Church with Rev. David Pruett and Rev. Larry Scoggins officiating, interment in the East Armuchee Baptist Church Cemetery. Active Pallbearers are Nephews. The Family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 8 P.M. at the Earle Rainwater Funeral Home; Mrs. Broome will also be in state Thursday, at the Church from 1 until 2 P.M.

William Danny Stallings, Obit (M)

Mr. William Danny Stallings, age 74, of Centre, AL, died Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at his residence.

Mr. Stallings was born November 30, 1948, in Trion, GA, son of the late William Hurley Stallings and Dorotha Christine Bishop Stallings. He attended Cornerstone Church and was retired from the textile industry. Mr. Stallings was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Vietnam.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Reva Denise Stallings.

Survivors include his wife, Jenneffer “Jenny” Jones Stallings; daughters, Mecca Evette (Scott) Hunter, Lacey Danielle Henderson; brother, Tommy Dale (Leslie) Stallings; sister, Reponza Stallings (Keith Davis); aunt, Judy (Robert) McCullough;9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Graveside and inurnment services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday January 11, 2023 at Lyerly Cemetery with Rev. Richard Coley officiating with Military Honors. Family and friends are requested to meet at cemetery at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Miss Donna Formby, age 62 of LaFayette, GA passed away Thursday, January 5, 2023 at a Chattanooga area hospital.

Miss Formby was born July 11, 1960 in Cedar Town, GA to the late Cecil and Claudia Bryant Formby.
She is survived by her caregiver, Gina Tucker; along with her friends from her home and the day program.

Graveside and interment services to celebrate the life of Miss Formby will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, January 11 at West hill Cemetery with Rev. Randy Harden officiating. Pallbearers will be Derrick Henton, Dillard Henton, and Gage Taylor.

Dr. Gary Eugene Silvers, Obit (ER)

Dr. Gary Eugene Silvers, age 58 of Rome, Ga passed away Thursday January 5, 2023, in a Rome hospital. He was born on March 14, 1964, in Summerville, Ga to the late Thomas Alfred Silvers and Kathleen Corbin Silvers who survives.

Dr. Silvers was raised in Summerville, Georgia and was a lifelong member at Calvary Baptist Church. Dr. Silvers lived a very fulfilling and interesting life. Throughout his life, his talents, energy and belief in Jesus Christ allowed him to travel many paths. He spent many years working in the health care industry as well as teaching at Georgia Highlands College in Dallas, Georgia.

He believed in being a life long learner and encouraged that philosophy of those who were close to him. He completed his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Shorter College. To encourage his children that nothing is impossible, he furthered his education by completing his doctorate in leadership from Tennessee Temple University. He kept Jesus Christ first throughout his journey and was the epitome of the phrase “wise men seek Him.” He decided to attend seminary and obtained an additional master’s degree from Liberty University. He utilized his skills best through music, lectures, testimonies, writings, humor and through his daily existence.

Survivors include his children Alex (Lindsay) Silvers, Blair (Dustin) Knight, and Sara Kate Silvers, three grandchildren; Lily Knight, Stella Knight and Hendrix Silvers; mother Kathleen Silvers; siblings Tammy Mitchell, Rickey Silvers, and Mickey Silvers as well as many nieces and nephews that were very special to him.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 9th, at 4:30 P.M. From the J. D. MRS. DEBORAH LYNN CARROLL, age 70, of Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2023. She was born in Summerville, Georgia on March 8, 1952, daughter of Wallace Busby and Evelyn Carpenter Busby. Mrs. Carroll was employed by Mohawk Industries in the Extrusion Department and was Baptist by faith.

Surviving are her husband, James Carroll; Daughter, Alicia (Reuben) Brock; Sons, Jason (Angie) Carroll and Clay (Mamie) Carroll; Bother, Earl Busby; Seven Grandchildren and Six Great Grandchildren.

Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Pastor Andy Hutchins officiating, Interment in Summerville Cemetery. Charles William Baker, Obit (C)

Mr. Charles William Baker, age 92 of the Pennville Community, Summervile, passed away Friday, January 6, 2023 in a Chattanooga Hospital.

Mr. Baker was born in Summerville, Georgia on August 17, 1930, son of the late Russell Isaac Baker and Grace Helen Reynolds Baker. He was a member of the Mountain View Baptist Church and was retired from the Dye House at Riegel/Mt. Vernon Mills. Mr. Baker had also been employed with the Volunteer Army Ammunition Plant in Chattanooga prior to his employment with Riegel. He enjoyed tinkering with lawnmowers and small engines, woodworking and doing handyman work. In addition to his parents, Mr. Baker was preceded in death by a grandson, Marcus Baker and a brother, Isaac R. Baker.

Mr. Baker is survived by his wife, Maxine Baker; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Terry Meek and Sherry and Mark Cothran; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Sandra Baker; grandchildren, Christy and Scott McDade, Casey and Cassie Meek, April and Matt Welch and Marly and Robby Proctor; great grandchildren, Madeline Welch, Abigail Welch, Gracie McDade, Dally Meek, Laney Meek and Bentley Proctor; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Baker will be held Monday, January 9, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Norton and Rev. Jimmy Tanner officiating. Interment will follow in the Green Hills Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will include Casey Meek, Scott McDade, Robby Proctor, Eugene Cordell, Rusty Franklin and Robert Williams. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dot Shankles, Deb Williams and the congregation of the Mountain View Baptist Church.

Mr. Bucky Ray Brown, age 70, of Summerville, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at a Rome hospital.

Bucky was born in Trion, Georgia on May 23, 1952, son of the late Leo Fay Brown and Clara Mae Carpenter Brown. He was retired from Thomasville Railroad and was of the Church of God Faith. Bucky was an avid music lover, liking all genres of music, but as he got older, he started enjoying gospel and country more. He enjoyed playing the guitar, fishing, golfing and piddling with cars. In addition to his parents, Bucky was preceded death by a niece, Regina Fay Prince and a nephew, Kenneth Daniel Prince.

Bucky is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Bryan Ray Brown and Shawn Ray and Meagan Brown; daughter and son-in-law, Crystal Monique and Brandon Torres; children by love, Rachel Rewis and Heather Barrett; brother, Brannon “B.B.” Brown(Lynn Bartlett); sister, Vickie Brown Darnell(Ralph Brock); grandchildren, Layla Brown, Austin Brown, Tyler Torres, Brianna Torres and Madison Brown; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Bucky will be held Sunday, January 8, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Howell and Rev. Jason Lee officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery.

MRS. KIMBERLY MICHELLE BLACKMON, age 58, of Oak Street- Summerville, Georgia, passed away December 22, 2022, in a Rome hospital following a sudden attack. She was born in Rome, Georgia on December 25, 1963 to the late Helen Marie Ingram Tucker and Frank Joe Evans, who survives. Mrs. Blackmon was a homemaker and member of Harrell Street Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by husband the late Gregory Scott Blackmon.

Surviving are daughters, Deanna (Josh) Hines and Amber Cothran; sons Stephen Little and Michael Lyons; Father, Frank Joe Evans; sister, Tanja Evans; step siblings, Carl & Mitzi Raymond, Natalie and Gerry Padovano.
