Tom Silvers, Obit (ER)

Mr. Tom Silvers, age 83, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2022, in a Rome hospital. He was born on September 3, 1939, to the late Paul Silvers and Louise Morrison Silvers. In addition to his parents, He was preceded in death by a brother, Morris Silvers, and a granddaughter, Jaden Mitchell. Mr. Silvers was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a Veteran of the Viet Nam War.

Surviving are his wife, Kathleen Silvers; a daughter Tammy (Jamie) Mitchell, sons – Mickey (Marilyn) Silvers, Rickey (Brenda Wade) Silvers, and Gary Silvers; sister, Paulette (Stan) Barker; Ten Grandchildren, Thirteen Great Grandchildren, several Nieces and Nephews also survive..

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 21, at 2:00 p.m. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Ministers Danny Decker and Rickey Biddle officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Active Pallbearers, Austin Mitchell, Derek Mitchell, Alex Silvers, Chris Corbin, Nicholas Dooley, and Chris Harris. The Family will receive friends Wednesday from Noon until 2 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

Greg Echols, Obit (ER)

MR. GREG ECHOLS, age 61, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2022, at his residence, following an extended illness. A native of Chattooga County, Georgia, he was born on February 4, 1961, to the late John B. Echols, Jr. and Betty Morrison Bagley who survives. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by step mother, Pam Tauzer-Echols. Mr. Echols was Fire Chief for ten years and served a total of 34 years with the Summerville Fire Department, was Owner/Operator of Echols Appliance, and a member of Summerville First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Karen Stephenson Echols; mother and step father, Betty Morrison and Roger Bagley; children, Matthew Bryan & Lauren Mitchell Echols, Jessica & Nathan Flood, Rachel & Drew Hamilton; grandchildren, Jackson Berry Echols, Caroline Ann Echols, Samuel Ellis Flood: sister, Terri & Tim Young; brother, Jim Echols; aunt, Honey & Dale Housch; several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 22nd, at 2:00 p.m. from the J. D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home with Chaplain Ronnie Cowart officiating, interment in Summerville Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Fire Fighters of Summerville Fire Department; Honorary Pallbearers will be Tim Bowman, Eric Reynolds, Matt Veatch, Lamar Fowler, Tommy Dillard, Dennis Bullard, and Scott Brown. The Family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

LaDonna C. Henderson, Obit (M)

Ms. LaDonna Caprell Ingle Henderson, age 42, of LaFayette, GA, died Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Emory St. Joseph Hospital.

Ms. Henderson was born September 24, 1980, in Fort Oglethorpe, GA, daughter of Betty Lynn Hayes Crouch and the late Steve Lamar Ingle. She was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church and had previously been employed as a nurse at Hayes State Prison.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, paternal grandparents, and uncle, William Michael Hayes.

Survivors include her children, David Michael Ingle, J.J. Henderson; mother and step-father, Betty and David Crouch; grandparents, Ronald and Gail Crouch: as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Graveside and entombment services will be held at 12:00 Noon Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at Greenhills Memory Gardens with Rev. Doug Farmer officiating.

Visitation will be held privately.

Clara Dawson, Obit (M)

Mrs. Clara B. Dawson, age 92, of Grant, AL, went to her Heavenly Home on Saturday, December 17, 2022, with her family at her side.

Mrs. Dawson was born in 1930 during the heart of the Great Depression. She worked many years in the glove mill in Menlo, GA, before joining Wal-Mart where she retired after 27 years. She loved to crochet, work puzzles, and travel. She was a devoted mother to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and what she enjoyed most was spending time with her family and listening to southern Gospel music.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dawson was preceded in death by her husband, Charles P. Dawson; three sisters, Audrey Crowe, Minnie Meek, and Mary Dooley; five brothers, Henry Broome, Pruitt Broome, Jason Broome, Hershel Broome, and Howard Broome.

Survivors include four daughters, Evelyn (Constantinos) Pantazopoulos, Donna (Larry) Bagley, Debbie (Kenny) Thompson, and Sherry (Skip) Bennett. Clara also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Shanna (Cheryl) Thompson-Ecton, Matthew Thompson, Josh Bennett, Caleb (Kristin) Bennett, Evangelia (Perry) Reppas, Clara Pantazopoulos, Emily (Zech) Woodall, Vasilios (Nessa) Pantazopoulos, and nine great-grandchildren, Roxanne and Layla Bennett, Avery and Asher Thompson-Ecton, Angeliki and Tasos Reppas, Wyatt and Hazel Bennett, and Laiyah Thompson.

Funeral services for Mrs. Dawson will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 21, 2022, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Steve Stanfield officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Josh Bennett, Caleb Bennett, Matthew Thompson, Vasilios Pantazopoulos, Robert Moxley, and Allen Haswell. Honorary pallbearers will be Constantinos Pantazopoulos, Larry Bagley, Kenny Thompson, and Skip Bennett.

Mary Ann Padgett, Obit (ER)

MISS MARY ANN PADGETT, age 59, of Martin Street, Summerville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2022, in a Rome hospital. A native of Chattooga County, She was born to the late Charles Leroy and Kathryn Ophelia Priest Padgett on March 21, 1963. Mary previously worker in the turning department of Century Glove Company. In addition to Parents, She was preceded in death by her sister, the late Kathy Michell Padgett Baker.

Surviving are brother-in-law, Darryl Baker; several Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 17th, at 12:00 noon from Graveside in Summerville Cemetery. The Family will receive friends, Saturday from 11:00 until 11:45 A.M. at the Funeral Home.

Effie Davenport Hayes, Obit (M)

Mrs. Effie Davenport Hayes age 96 of Summerville, GA passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at her residence.

Mrs. Hayes was born July 14, 1926 in Blue Ridge, GA to the late Samuel and Rosa Davenport. She was retired from Mt. Vernon Mills and was a founding member of Solid Rock Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, country music, and especially spending time with her family, children, and grandchildren, and a special love for Gospel music.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, John Hayes; brothers, Truman, Charles, Lonnie, Bill, and Earl Davenport; and sisters, Della Henderson, Mary Davis, Jessie Davenport, Rosa Davenport, Ruth Hayes, and Edith Stanley.

Survivors include her children, Diane and Tom Davis, Betty Hayes, David Hayes, and Rose and Tommy Snider; 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Vernon Hayes; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Shelva Woods.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Hayes will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, December 16 at the chapel of Mason Funeral Home with Mr. Brad Hayes officiating and Eulogists Benjie Broome and Leigha Parker. Interment will follow at West Hill Cemetery with Allen Hayes, Matthew Evans, Josh Hurley, Luke Evans, Justin Barker, John Snider, Nico Broome, and Gabe Hayes serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include the members of Solid Rock Baptist Church and the daughters of J.W. and Sylvia Austin.

Mr. David Rich, age 90, of Rising Fawn, GA, died Monday, December 12, 2022, at Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Rich was born April 22, 1932, in LaFayette, GA, son of the late Arthur P. and Martha Chapman Rich. He was the founder of Dave’s Radiator Shop in Summerville and had also previously worked as an engineer on a dredge boat.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Rich was preceded in death by his first wife, Geraldine Rich; son, Kenneth David Rich; daughter, Paula Rich; brothers, Ernest Rich, Jim Rich, Paul Rich, Johnny Rich, and J.T. Rich; sisters, Annie Lee Curent, Emmie Schrader, and Maggie Mae Rich.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Rich; son, Jamey Rich; daughter, Pamela Rich Justice; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services and visitation will be held privately. Interment will also be held privately in Summerville Cemetery.

Mr. Terry Don Gazaway, age 70, of Trion, GA, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2022, at Advent Health Redmond.

Mr. Gazaway was born June 8, 1952, in Detroit, MI, son of the late Marcus and Mildred Lance Williamson. He was Baptist by faith, and prior to his retirement, was employed with Showa Best for 47 years.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia “Gayle” Tucker Gazaway; children, Donny Gazaway, Brian (Amy) Gazaway, Melissa (Jeff) Farley; siblings, Charles Burgess, Gene (Carolyn) Gazaway, Johnny (Michelle) Williamson, Lucille Grimes, Kathy Craig, Eulene (Wayne) Baggett, Betty Jennings, Mary (Mitchell) Lowrance, David Williamson, and Ray Williamson;7 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. Gazaway will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, December 15, 2022, at the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Shores officiating. Mrs. Tivis Sue Dutton Fowler, age 81 of Centre, AL passed away Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Cherokee Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Fowler was born January 3, 1941 in Sand Rock, AL to the late Chester and Kizzie Cochran Dutton. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Joe Fowler.
Survivors include her daughter, Elisa (Tommy) Bradley; sisters, Marie Bishop and Callie White; and grandchildren Joshua and Justin Bradley.

Mr. Joseph Perry Gordon, age 65, of Summerville, GA, died Monday, December 5, 2022, at his residence.

Mr. Gordon was born May 14, 1957, in Marietta, GA, son of the late Deward Earl and Jeanette Worley Gordon. He had attended Silver Hill Baptist Church and had previously been employed in the automotive repair industry. He had also built several residential homes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Pam Elrod.

Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Davidson Gordon; son, Jeffrey (Michelle) Gordon; sisters, Debbie Jones, Abigail Akins; brother, Ken Gordon; grandchildren, Victoria Gordon, Joshua Gordon, Ansley Akin, and Connor Akin.
