Chattooga County students interested in agriculture and animal husbandry are being encouraged to apply for the annual Chattooga County Young Farmers Pig Project.
Through the program, participating students will receive two piglets to raise and care for during the summer and fall. Organizers say the hands-on project gives students real-world experience in animal management, responsibility, and the day-to-day agricultural process.
Students who take part will have the chance to showcase their work at the Chattooga County Agricultural Fair in August during a special preview show. The pigs will later be judged and sold during a final show and auction in November, giving students an opportunity to earn proceeds from their work while learning more about the agricultural marketplace.
Space in the program is limited based on pig availability, and preference will be given to students involved in 4-H and FFA.
