The Chattooga County Young Farmers are taking orders for an upcoming BBQ lunch fundraiser, with proceeds benefiting the organization’s scholarship fund.

BBQ plates will be available on Friday, October 16, and organizers are asking those interested in purchasing a meal to place their orders in advance.

The Young Farmers say all proceeds from the BBQ lunch will go toward the scholarship fund, which helps support local students as they continue their education.

Orders can be placed through an online Google form provided by the Chattooga County Young Farmers.

The fundraiser is another way the organization supports agricultural education and young people in the community while giving local residents an opportunity to enjoy a BBQ lunch and contribute to a worthwhile cause.

The Chattooga County Young Farmers will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, August 6, at 7:00 p.m. at the Chattooga County Ag Barn.

The featured topic for the evening will be the Chattooga County Fair, with Lynn Hall serving as the guest speaker. Organizers encourage anyone interested in learning more about the fair or the Young Farmers program to attend.

Dinner will be available for $10 and includes grilled pork chops, loaded mashed potatoes, and salad.

Chattooga County Young Farmers Welcomes New Teacher Chris Ramsey

Chattooga County Young Farmers has announced the addition of a new instructor for the upcoming program year. Chris Ramsey has joined the organization after most recently teaching at Rockmart High School for the past two years.

Ramsey holds a bachelor’s degree in horticulture, a master’s degree in secondary education, and a specialist degree in career and technical education from Auburn University. Prior to teaching in Georgia, he spent more than 20 years teaching in Alabama.

In addition to his classroom experience, Ramsey operates a farm where he raises beef cattle and pigs. He and his wife have two children, both of whom are studying Agribusiness at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

Chattooga County Young Farmers officials say they are excited to welcome Ramsey and look forward to the knowledge, energy, and leadership he will bring to the program. Ramsey says he is eager to get started and looks forward to meeting and working with local Young Farmers members.

It’s onion pickup day in Chattooga County as the Chattooga County Young Farmers hold their annual fundraiser.

Organizers say customers who placed orders can pick up their Georgia-Grown Vidalia onions today from noon until 6 PM at the Chattooga County Ag Center. Those who ordered through individual Young Farmer members will be contacted directly to arrange pickup or delivery.

The annual sale is a major fundraiser for the group’s scholarship program, which supports local students. This year’s event has been especially successful, with more than 10,000 pounds of Vidalia onions sold.

The Chattooga County Young Farmers host the sale each year, continuing a long-standing tradition that supports education while promoting Georgia agriculture.

Local residents will have an opportunity to connect with area farmers and learn more about locally grown products during an upcoming Farm Stand Meet and Greet in Chattooga County.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, April 16 at 7 p.m. at the Chattooga County Agricultural Center in Summerville.

Hosted by the Chattooga County Young Farmers, the meet and greet is designed to highlight local farm stands and give producers a chance to showcase what they offer. Participants will be set up with tables to display goods, share information, and connect with the community.

Organizers say the evening will begin with a brief introduction, followed by time for attendees to visit with vendors, ask questions, and learn more about local agriculture. Vendors are also welcome to bring items to sell.
