Chattooga County EMA/E-911 is seeking applicants for a full-time Communications Officer position at the county’s 911 Center.

Known as “the voice behind the mic,” Communications Officers are often the first point of contact in an emergency—providing calm, clear instructions and dispatching the help callers need in their darkest moments. The agency is inviting those who are passionate about public safety and helping others to join their “Public Safety Family.”

The open position is a split shift, with primary hours from 12:00 PM to 12:00 AM. The schedule runs 2 days on / 2 days off, with every other weekend set as 3 days on / 3 days off. Applicants should be flexible, as split shift personnel may be asked to cover other shifts for sickness or vacation.

Starting pay is $16.00 per hour. Employees receive a $0.50 raise after 6 weeks, another $0.50 after an additional 6 weeks, and a $1.00 raise around their 1-year anniversary, providing a clear path for early wage increases.

State certification is required to maintain employment. Initial training is conducted in-house, and new hires will also attend the POST Communications Officer Course at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center (GPSTC) in Forsyth, Georgia. That course is a one-week program, and attendees are required to stay in the on-campus dorms during training.

Those interested in applying should call 706-857-3400, option 1 or 2, on the non-emergency line for more information. Chattooga County EMA/E-911 encourages anyone looking to “be the calm in the chaos” and “the voice of hope” to consider a career as a 911 Communications Officer.
