A special election has been announced to fill the vacant seat in Georgia’s 14th Congressional District following the resignation of Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene. The district includes Chattooga County, along with parts of Northwest Georgia, and will soon see a field of candidates seeking to represent the region in Washington.
State officials have confirmed the election will be conducted using a “jungle primary” format. In a jungle primary, all candidates — regardless of political party — appear on the same ballot, and voters choose among the entire field. If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote, the top two vote-getters advance to a runoff election, even if they are from the same party.
This format can produce competitive, multi-candidate races and places added emphasis on campaigning and voter outreach across the entire district. A runoff, if required, would ultimately determine who fills the congressional seat.
