Official information about President Donald Trump’s planned visit to Rome today remains limited, but local residents are watching closely for updates on expected travel routes and traffic impacts.
Rome Police Department community information specialist Kelly Madden said there are no public forums planned and that information release is restricted due to the nature of the visit. Madden noted that no public gatherings are scheduled.
Multiple reports indicate Trump is expected to arrive at Richard B. Russell Regional Airport around early afternoon Thursday and travel to at least one stop in the city. One location mentioned in reports is Coosa Steel on Darlington Drive near Georgia Northwestern Technical College. A ticket-registration page has also circulated online for an appearance in Rome listed for Thursday afternoon, with doors opening earlier in the day.
Other reports suggest an additional stop could include the Rome Varsity on Spider Webb Drive, though officials have not publicly confirmed a full itinerary.
Floyd County government and area law enforcement agencies have issued a traffic advisory for Thursday, warning drivers to expect temporary delays and rolling road closures near the airport and along busy corridors in the city. Motorists are asked to plan extra travel time and follow directions from law enforcement and traffic personnel.
The Floyd County Democratic Party has a permit to assemble for a protest starting at noon in the parking lot on the corner of Turner McCall Boulevard and East First Street across from Hardee’s. “Please keep signs Epstein-related,” the group posted on its Facebook page, along with a caution to follow the directions of law enforcement and traffic personnel.
In a separate notice, Floyd County advised that the Hatfield remote site in Armuchee, connected to the airport on Jones Mill Road, is scheduled to close at noon Thursday and reopen Friday morning.
