Mr. Earl Leroy Baker, age 79, of Lyerly, GA died Monday, August 9, 2010 at UAB in Birmingham, AL.

Mr. Baker was born October 22, 1930 in Lyerly, GA, the son of the late William D. Baker and Leatha Bridges Baker. He was retired from the United States Park Service. Mr. Baker was a veteran of the United States Army, having served for 21 years. He was a member of the Thompkins Masonic Lodge #466, and a 32 nd degree member of the Scottish Rite. Mr. Baker was a lifelong member of the VFW Post #3679 in Fort Oglethorpe, GA. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Mae Culver Baker.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Earl and Imogene Baker; grandchildren, Shannon Hass, Melinda Sparks, and Jerry Justice; great-grandchildren, Kisha Hass, Justin Lewis, Brooke Hicks, and Rhiannon Justice; and a sister, Bessie Stoner.

Graveside and interment services with full military honors will be held at 10:00 a. m. Friday, August 13, 2010 at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Dr. Chris Carter officiating.

Mr. Baker will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Thursday, August 12, 2010.
