Today is Election Day in Chattooga County as voters head to the polls for a Special Election runoff to fill unexpired terms in both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Georgia State Senate.

Voters will decide who will represent the 14th Congressional District, previously held by Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, and the Georgia 53rd Senate District, previously held by Colton Moore.

According to the Chattooga County Registrar’s Office, 1,279 ballots were cast during advance voting, which has now concluded. In addition, 60 absentee by mail ballots were issued. Of those, 43 have been accepted, two were canceled after voters chose to vote in person, and 15 remain outstanding. The deadline to request an absentee ballot has passed.

Polls are open today from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., and voters must cast their ballot at their assigned precinct. A government-issued photo ID is required to vote.
