Georgia students outperform national average on ACT

Public school districts across Georgia, including Chattooga County Schools and Trion City Schools, have an opportunity to apply for a new round of specialized assistance designed to help schools better address students’ academic, behavioral and overall well-being needs.

The Georgia Department of Education announced that applications are now open for the Georgia Multi-Tiered System of Supports Cohort 2027, a three-year initiative providing participating school districts with individualized coaching, professional development and technical assistance.

The program, commonly known as GaMTSS, is designed to help schools identify students who need additional support and develop strategies to address those needs before problems become more serious.

Under the framework, schools use student performance information and other data to determine what level of assistance may be needed. Support can range from schoolwide instructional and behavioral strategies to more targeted interventions for individual students.

Selected school districts will be assigned a dedicated GaMTSS program specialist to provide coaching and technical assistance. Participating schools will also have access to statewide professional development opportunities intended to help educators establish and maintain effective student support systems.

The initiative is designed to strengthen school practices over three years rather than provide a one-time training session.

All Georgia public school districts are eligible to apply. The program does not provide direct monetary grants to participating districts. Instead, the assistance comes through professional services, training and ongoing support.

For Chattooga County Schools and Trion City Schools, the opportunity could provide additional resources for strengthening existing programs aimed at improving student achievement and addressing barriers to learning.

There has been no announcement that either local school system has applied or been selected.

Applications must be submitted by Friday, November 13, 2026, at 5 PM.

Additional information is available through the Georgia Department of Education’s grant opportunities program.
