Chattooga High School has released the list of honor graduates for the Class of 2026, recognizing dozens of students for their academic achievement and dedication.

Those named as honor graduates include: Addie Veatch, Alexandria Dilbeck, Alexis Womack, Alliyah Farr, Benjamin Woods, Braxson Cook-Bevels, Brinley Thomas, Brock Cooper, Cadence Nuckolls, Cameryn Smith, Cooper Hampton, Demya Williams, Dixie Shelton, Donovan Collins, Elizabeth Laird, Ensley Carr, Grace Shirley, Hailey Morris, Haley Maddux, Hannah Hasty, Izabella Burdick, Kahlyn Helton, Kasen Elsberry, Kendal Zuniga, Leah Cochran, Leeanna Moseley, Lileah Braden, Madison Koonce, Mary Weedon, Mason Buchanan, Max Perez, Naomi Scruggs, Pedro Lopez, Riley Willis, Ruby Kilgore, Sky Burrage, and Zachary Hutcherson.

School officials say these students have demonstrated strong academic performance throughout their high school careers and are being recognized as they prepare to graduate later this spring.

The honor graduate designation highlights the commitment and hard work of students who have excelled in the classroom and maintained high academic standards.

Chattooga High School is recognizing Abbigail Smith for an outstanding achievement after her award-winning welding sculpture was honored at the state level.

Abbigail, along with Superintendent Michelle Helie, CTAE Director Angie Culbert, and Welding Instructor and SkillsUSA Advisor Carter Woodall, attended the State Board of Education meeting on March 26, 2026, where her sculpture was showcased.

Smith earned the silver medal in Welding Sculpture at the SkillsUSA State Leadership Conference, an accomplishment that highlights her talent, creativity, and dedication to welding.

School leaders praised Abbigail’s success and also recognized the educators and administrators who continue to support student achievement and career-focused education at Chattooga High School.

Congratulations to Abbigail Smith on this impressive honor and statewide recognition.

Chattooga High School is recognizing senior Kasen Elsberry after he was named a recipient of the Dolores Hardison-Hayes Spirit Award.

School officials said Elsberry, who participates in the school’s Work-Based Learning program, was nominated by Work-Based Learning Coordinator Lisa Hughes for his dedication, strong work ethic, and commitment to success both inside and outside the classroom.

The Dolores Hardison-Hayes Spirit Award honors outstanding work-based learning students who reflect the mission of connecting students, schools, and businesses to help build a strong and skilled workforce. Kasen is one of only three students selected to receive the honor.

One of the three award recipients will ultimately be chosen to receive a $5,000 scholarship. Chattooga High School said it is proud of Elsberry’s accomplishment and wished him the best as the final scholarship announcement approaches.

Trion High Senior Jana Price Receives Helping Hands Scholarship

Trion High School senior Jana Price has been awarded the Helping Hands Scholarship, recognizing her dedication to community service and volunteer work through the Helping Hands program at Trion City Schools.

Price earned the scholarship after completing more than 500 hours of community service, reflecting years of commitment to helping others through the program. She is the daughter of Kyle and Kelly Price of Summerville.

The Helping Hands program is part of the Helping Hands Ending Hunger initiative, which began in the Trion community and focuses on helping students and families facing food insecurity. Student volunteers collect unopened food from school cafeterias and help organize food bags that are distributed to students and families in need, helping ensure they have food for nights and weekends.

The scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors who demonstrate exceptional service and dedication to the program while making a meaningful impact in their school and community.

School officials praised Price for her hard work and compassion, thanking her for the many hours she has invested in helping others through the Helping Hands program.

Georgia DOE Launches Reading Readiness Dashboard; 65% of Third Graders Reading on Grade Level

The Georgia Department of Education has unveiled a Reading Readiness Dashboard designed to give parents, educators, and community members clear access to statewide data on student literacy.

State officials say the online dashboard makes it easier to view students’ grade-level reading status across Georgia, broken down by grade level and subgroup.

The tool uses the Georgia Milestones assessment’s Grade-Level Reading Indicator, which assigns students a Lexile score based on their performance on reading questions in the English Language Arts assessment. The indicator is aligned with the State Literacy Metric adopted by the State Board of Education, as required by the Georgia Early Literacy Act.

Users can click the “by subgroup” tab to view statewide percentages of students reading at or above grade level, then filter by subgroup or adjust the grade level or course being viewed.

According to the dashboard, 65 percent of Georgia third-grade students are currently reading at or above grade level.

State education leaders say the goal is to ensure transparency and provide families and communities with accessible data to better understand reading readiness and support literacy efforts across Georgia schools.
