Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) has partnered with Georgia Power to offer a new Electrical Lineworker Program at the college’s Polk County Campus in Rockmart, providing hands-on training for those seeking entry-level careers in the power industry.
The 12-week program is designed to prepare participants for apprenticeship and lineworker positions throughout Northwest Georgia and beyond. Training takes place Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. and focuses on essential workplace skills, safety procedures, and technical lineworker operations.
Participants who successfully complete the program will have the opportunity to earn an Electrical Lineworker Certificate, along with a restricted Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Card, and American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, possess a valid driver’s license, have a high school diploma or GED, be drug-free, and meet physical requirements including climbing and lifting standards. Due to OSHA equipment restrictions, applicants must weigh no more than 280 pounds and be capable of lifting at least 50 pounds. A TABE test is also required for eligibility.
The program fee is $7,500 per participant. Upcoming training cohorts are scheduled for April 27 through July 16, 2026, and August 31 through November 19, 2026.
