A high-speed pursuit Friday night ended with the arrest of a Tennessee fugitive wanted on an attempted murder charge.

Authorities say deputies were asked around 8:15 p.m. Friday to assist Calhoun Police in a vehicle pursuit that began in Calhoun and continued east along SR 156 (Red Bud Road). Investigators report the suspect, identified as Larry Nichols, drove a truck at speeds exceeding 90 miles per hour, weaving into oncoming traffic and creating what officials described as an extremely dangerous situation for other motorists.

Just east of Red Bud, deputies used a PIT maneuver to stop the fleeing vehicle. The truck left the roadway and crashed down an embankment. Officers arrested Nichols without further resistance, and no injuries were reported.

Officials say the criminal investigation is being led by Calhoun Police in coordination with Tennessee authorities. Law enforcement also stated there are no additional suspects at large and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
