Landowners across Northwest Georgia who want to learn more about prescribed burning will have an opportunity to get hands-on training during an upcoming Learn & Burn Workshop.
Organizers say the workshop will be held Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Berry College (2277 Martha Berry Highway), Mount Berry, Georgia. The cost is $10, which includes lunch, and the event is aimed at landowners interested in prescribed fire—no experience is necessary.
The workshop will cover key topics such as why prescribed fire is used, safety, burn objectives, planning, liability, smoke management, burn weather, and steps toward becoming a certified burner, along with additional resources to help participants move forward.
Registration is available online, and organizers note that registration closes February 22, 2026. For more information, contact Kimberly McCollum at 706-894-1591 or email info.ccrcd@gmail.com.
Participants are asked to wear closed-toe boots, long pants and sleeves, and cotton or other non-synthetic clothing.
Additional protective equipment will be provided.
