On Wednesday of last week, Chattooga County Deputies were conducting a traffic stop to a driver they believed to be intoxicated. Joel Whittle was standing outside his vehicle talking with the officers when they smelled a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. Whittle admitted to drinking six sixteen-ounce beers throughout his day. A breathalyzer test and field sobriety test were performed on Whittle, and it was concluded that he was impaired by alcohol. He was then placed under arrest and transported to the Chattooga County Jail on charges of DUI.
