Mr. J. W. “Jake” Martin, age 79, of Summerville, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at his residence.

Mr. Martin was born in Etowah County, AL, on June 19, 1929, son of the late James Walter Martin and Lettie Mae Churchwell Martin. He was a member of the Perennial Springs Baptist Church, attended Berryton Baptist Church and prior to retirement was employed with Bigelow Sanford and Mohawk. In addition to his parents, Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his wife, Della Mae Ball Martin, brother, Curtis Martin, and a sister, Net Deering.

Mr. Martin is survived by sons and daughters-inlaw, Roland Martin, Paul and Becky Martin of Summerville, George and Michelle Martin, LaFayette; daughters and son-in-law, Janie Lowry of Summerville, and Rebecca “Becky” and Derrell Millican of Summerville; brothers and sisters- in-law, John O. and Faye Martin of Boaz, AL, Willie Ray and Barbara Martin of Jacksonville, FL; sisters, Iva McDonald, Summerville and Doris Battles, Gallant, AL; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Clyde and Earnie Ball of LaFayette and Pauline Ball of Toccoa, GA; grandchildren, Megan McCary, Katlyn Millican, Eddie Millican, Hannah Millican, Steven Millican, Jay Lowry, Jon Lowry, Paula Lowry, Gracie Martin, Allen Martin, Luke Martin, Step Grandchildren, Will Hendricks, Amanda Hendricks, Trevor Chastain and Taylor Chastain; Great Grandchildren, Noah Millican, Sarah Millican, Olivia Millican, Zoey Millican, Anaih McCary; Step Great Grandchildren, Samantha McNair and Derrick McNair.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 31, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. in the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alton Stamey, Rev. Mickey Skates and Rev. Malcolm Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the Perennial Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Johnny Wynn officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Jay Lowry, Jon Lowry, Eddie Millican, Allen Martin Luke Martin and Steven McCary. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of Perennial Springs, Berryton, Trinity, Chelsea, Sardis and Harbor Lights Baptist Churches.

Mr. Martin will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 P.M.
