Mr. Carlton “Sonny” Reynolds, Jr., age 89 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Sonny was born in Summerville, Georgia on May 31, 1937, son of the late Carlton Reynolds, Sr. and Gladys Stewart Reynolds. He was a member of the Four Mile Baptist Church, where he was also a member of the Adult Sunday School Class, and worked for Inland Packaging for 30 years, worked at a carpet mill for 16 years; and following his retirement, was a car mover for used car dealers in Summerville. Sonny was an avid hunter and raised world renowned coon dogs. He started out opossum hunting at an early age and moved on to becoming a three time world champion coon hunter, two time hall of fame member of the PKC (Professional Kennel Club); member of the Georgia Federation of Coon Hunters, and at one time was the only world hunt champion in the State of Georgia.
In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by his wife of over 67 years, Christine Wright Reynolds; and two sisters, Elsie Elrod and Dot Campbell.
Sonny is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Stan and Kim Reynolds and Mike and Leah Reynolds; grandchildren, Caleb(Morgan) Reynolds, Christopher(Janice) Reynolds and Daniel(Maddie) Reynolds; great grandchildren, Lukas Reynolds, Thomas Reynolds, Magnolia Reynolds and Theo Reynolds; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Sonny will be held Friday, September 4, 2026 at 4:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Pastor Joel Smith, Rev. Doyle Kelley and Rev. Jonathan Hadden officiating. Interment will follow in the Green Hills Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Hight, Wayne Casteel, James Harris, Kim Bradley, Lamar Pettyjohn and Dale Miller. Honorary Pallbearers will be Roger Siffles, Treyton Coffman, Barrett Coffman and members of the Adult Sunday School Class of Four Mile Baptist Church.
Sonny’s family will receive friends at the Coffman Funeral Home Friday, September 4, 2026 from 2:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.
