Mr. Jack “Paw Paw” Nelson, age 90 of Summerville, Georgia passed away Saturday, June 5, 2021 at the Redmond Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Nelson was born in Little River, Alabama on April 24, 1931, son of the late John Nelson and Pluma Hartline Nelson. He was a member of the Trion Heights Baptist Church and prior to retirement, was employed with the Chattooga County Public Works department. Mr. Nelson was also involved in the Civil Defense in Chattooga County and had also worked in the print department at Riegel Textile. He was a veteran of the United States Marines, serving during the Korean War era. He was instrumental in the founding and building of the Chattooga County Saddle Club, where he was a lifetime member. He also played Santa for many organizations in Chattooga County. In addition to his parents, Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Imogene Cochran Nelson; a son, Johnny “John” Bryant Nelson; sisters, Cecil “Punch” DeBerry; Frankie Conckle and Betty Jo Nelson; and brothers, Tom Nelson, Pete Nelson, Dick Nelson and Clarence “Rat” Nelson.
Mr. Nelson is survived by a daughter, Regina Jill McElroy (Johnny Rogers); granddaughter, Alisha McElroy Reynolds (Casey); great grandchildren, John Riley McElroy and Esther Reynolds and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside and Interment services will be held Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 7:00 P.M. in the West Hill Cemetery with Pastor Vernon Johnson officiating.
Pallbearers will include Johnny Rogers, Caleb Reynolds, Stacy Whited and Tommy Strawn.
The family is receiving friends at the residence.
