Mr. Joel Edwin “Jody” Cook, Sr., age 81, of Lyerly, GA, died Monday, March 16, 2015, at his residence.

 

Mr. Cook was born February 13, 1934, in Lyerly, GA, son of the late Roy F. and Addie Lou Henderson Cook.  He was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in the Korean War.  He was retired from Mohawk and had worked with the Chattooga County Board of Education for 22 years.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Bankson Cook.

 

Mr. Cook is survived by his sons, Joel E. Cook, Jr. and Anthony E. Cook; a daughter, Margaret J. Cook; a sister, Mary D. Pickle; grandchildren, Shane Cook and Rosa Cook; and great-grandchildren, Steven Cook, Michael Cook, and Jacob Cook.

 

Funeral service is 4:00 p. m. Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Mason Funeral

Home Chapel with Rev. Dewayne Teague, Rev. Ricky Studdard, and

Rev. Don Bullard officiating.  Burial will follow in Johnson Cemetery.

Active pallbearers, Terry Mitchell, Ricky Summer, Ricky Stinson, Eugene Brown, Eddie Timmons, William Elrod.  Honorary pallbearer is Clarence Cornelison.

 

Mr. Cook will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive

friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p. m. Wednesday, March 18, 2015.  In lieu of

flowers the family request memorials be made to the Giddeon Bibles.

 

Mason Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Joel Edwin Cook, Sr. who died on Monday.
