Mrs. Ann Martin Yancey, age 74 of Summerville, Georgia, passed away Thursday May 12, 2011 at the Floyd Medical Center.
Mrs. Yancey was born in Trion, Georgia on March 19, 1937, daughter of the late Alonzo Martin and Foy Lee Coots Martin. She was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star, a member and Past President of the Chattooga Shrinettes and a member of the 40 and 8. Mrs. Yancey never met a stranger and looked at all people equally. She was of the Baptist Faith and had traveled extensively and lived in many areas including Bermuda, the Panama Canal Zone, the Isle of Palms and Hilton Head Island. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Yancey was employed with Riegel Textile in the Weave Room and most recently was a door greeter at Wal-Mart. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marcellus W. Yancey, Sr. on December 3, 2010.
Mrs. Yancey is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Marcellus W. “Marcey” Yancey, Jr. and his wife Zelma, Cloudland; daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha & Ray Atkins, Rome, Charise & Tim McNeely, Dothan, AL, Tammy & Michael Dempsey, Cave Spring, Dawn & Ken Hefner, Kansas City, and Kelly & Jay Wilson, Summerville; Sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy & Tommy Dooley, Dry Valley and Dale & Allen Cochran, Rome; Brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Shirley Martin, NC; grandchildren, Natalie Thiele, Daniel Atkins, Caroline Atkins, Tyslon Perdue, Benjamin McNeely, Katharine McNeely, Ryan Dempsey, Halee Dempsey, Matthew Hefner, Megan Ballinger, MacKenzie Hefner, Samual Wilson, Emily Wilson, Shadae Warren, Dana Yancey, Joseph Tucker and Misty Hennon; 6 great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Yancey will be held Sunday, May 15, 2011 at 4:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Mason Funeral Home. Interment will be Monday, May 16, 2011 at 12:00 Noon in Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
Pallbearers will be Sons-in-law and Grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be Granddaughters.
Mrs. Yancey will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.
