Mrs. Betty Duene Broome, age 84, of Lyerly, passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at the Summit Health and Rehabilitation Center in Rome, Georgia.
Mrs. Broome was born in Berryton, Georgia on July 13, 1928, the youngest and last surviving child of Joe Roy Smith and Evie Abernathy Smith. She was a devoted Minister’s wife, mother and faithful Christian. Mrs. Broome actively worked in the Missions field in Canton, GA, and Madison County, GA from 1967 – 2000. She was active in door knocking and Bible teaching with her husband in these and many other Mission Outreach Programs. She also had worked in Canton, GA as a head cashier at the Colonial Store, and Reigel Textile Mill in Trion.
Mrs. Broome is survived by her husband, Min. Thomas Spencer Broome; sons and daughters-in-law, Terry Lamar and Kathy Broome of Scottsboro, AL, Marty F. and Beverly Broome of Dasher, GA, Spencer M. and Renee Broome of Valdosta, GA and Hillary and Deborah Broome of Murfreesboro, TN; daughter and son-in-law, Yvonne and Barry Allen of Carrollton, GA; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Broome will be held Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the Pennville Church of Christ with Minister Robby Eversole officiating. Interment will follow in the Green Hills Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be David Broome, Michael Broome, Derek Broome, Kevin Broome, Jeremy Broome and Chris Pressnell.
Mrs. Broome will be in state at the Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 PM. On Saturday, Mrs. Broome will also be in state at the Pennville Church of Christ from 10 AM until the funeral hour.
