Mrs. Betty Kellett Bush, age 91 of Summerville, passed away on Monday, March 26. She was born in 1927 in Chattooga County and was a longtime member of South Summerville Baptist Church. She also served on the Summerville City Council. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 30th at noon at the Summerville Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Bryant officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 10:3o AM until 11:45 AM at Earl Rainwater Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Gideons International at PO Box 648, Summerville. BETTY KELLETT BUSH, 91, of Summerville, Georgia, passed to glory on Monday, March 26, 2018 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Betty was born in Chattooga County on February 8, 1927, to William Thomas (Bill) Kellett and Abbie Chambers Kellett. She was raised on the family farm in Holland, Georgia, with her loving brothers and sisters. Betty was a lifelong resident of Chattooga County and graduated from Lyerly High School and married the love of her life, Edward Jackson Bush, Jr. on December 14, 1944. They Married shortly before Edward left to go to Europe as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne division to join the Allied Forces marching across France into Germany during World Was II. After he returned from the war, the couple moved with their then five-year old daughter, Sylvia, from the family farm to 16 Taylor Street. Edward continued his dad’s (Buddy Bush’s) junk business in Summerville while Betty enjoyed homemaking and spending time with their daughter. Betty was a longtime member of South Summerville Baptist Church where she was also a dedicated member of the Haney Spears Sunday School Class and a member of the Gideon’s Auxiliary. In 1963, she became an employee of the City of Summerville as a billing clerk and retired in 1990 after 27 years of faithful service. In 1993, she was elected to fill the unexpired term of her late husband to the City Council of Summerville and continued serving in this position until 2009.
Betty is preceded in death by her loving husband, Edward Jackson Bush, Jr., her parents, William Thomas and Abbie Kellett and siblings, Dorothy Nour, Marynelle Kellett, Mozelle Kilcrease, Jimmie Watson, William Thomas Kellett, Jr., and John Frank Kellett, Sr. She is survived by her daughter, Sylvia (Ralph) Hill; grandson, Larry (Jackie) Hill and granddaughter, Brennan (Jamison) Griffin; great grandchildren, Jackson, Garrett, Andrew, and Ansley Hill and Hill, Candler, and Mary Reese Griffin; brother-in-law, Bobby Bush, and several Nieces and Nephews also survives.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 30th at 12 o’clock noon at Graveside in Family Plot of Summerville Cemetery with Reverend Jimmy Bryant officiating. The Family will receive friends Friday from 10:30 until 11:45 A.M. at Rainwater Funeral Home in Summerville. Pallbearers Larry Hill, Jackson Hill, Garrett Hill, Andrew Hill, Jamison Griffin, and Marty Brown. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Gideons International at P.O.
