Mrs. Jimmie Sue Mathis age 65, of the Armuchee community passed away Sunday, January 20, 2013.
Mrs. Mathis was born February 24, 1947, in Bayminett, AL, daughter of the late Jim McAteer and Nettie McAteer. Prior to becoming a homemaker Mrs. Mathis worked at Crona Crafts and Mohawk. She was a member of the Little Sand Mountain Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mathis was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Leon Mathis; sisters, Nancy Jenkins and Betty Gentry; and two brothers, A.H. McAteer and Paul McAteer.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and LeAnn Mathis; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Chris Godfrey; grandchildren, Haley and Blake Mathis and Chandler Godfrey; sisters, Doris McAteer and Ola Belle Potts; and brothers, James McAteer and Tommy McAteer. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at 2:00 P.M. in the Little Sand Mountain Baptist Church with Rev. Larry McCoy and Rev. Brandon Bishop officiating. Mrs. Mathis will lie-in-state at the church from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral service. Interment will follow in the Little Sand Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday in the Heritage Chapel of the Miller & Richards Funeral Home from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as active pallbearers and are requested to meet at the church on Wednesday by 12:30 P.M.: John Lowery, Bill Mathis, Roger Mathis, Eddie McAllister, Terry Owens, Chris Owens, and Chris Cargle. Honorary pallbearers will be Ted Youngblood and Carlton Cargle.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully request memorial contributions be made to Little Sand Mountain Baptist Church, Betty Youngblood 1160 North Little Sand Mountain Road, Armuchee, GA 30105.
