Mrs. Mary “Melvina” Overton Slater, age 86, of Rising Fawn, GA, died Thursday, July 29, 2021, at her daughter’s residence.

Mrs. Slater was born October 12, 1934, in Geraldine, AL, daughter of the late Milton G. “M.G.” Overton and Viola Henderson Overton.  Prior to her retirement, she served as a case worker for the State of Tennessee.  She was also the State President of Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Chattanooga, TN.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Slater was preceded in death by her husband, Randell Slater; sisters, Rosie Mae Daughtery and Ileen Bowling; brothers, John Overton and Herman Overton.
Survivors include her daughters, Kittie (Dennis) Stafford and Kristie (Robert) Headley; granddaughter, Carrie (David) Huff; and great-grandchildren, Michael and Noah Huff.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at Chattanooga Memorial Park with Rev. Andy Hutchins officiating.  Pallbearers will be David Huff, Gary Langston, and Brian Sarrell.  Honorary pallbearers will be Noah Huff and Michael Huff.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. Sunday, August 1, 2021, at Red Bank Cumberland Presbyterian Church located at 115 Morrison Springs Road, Red Bank, TN 37415.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to either the Mary Ellen Locher Breast Center/C.H.I. Memorial Foundation (2525 DeSales Avenue Chattanooga, TN 37404) or Hospice of Chattanooga (P.O. Box 46 Chattanooga, TN 37401).
